I think GaT is going to be revived. Probably one of Steve's (Smmennen) or Ultima's builds will be a wrecking ball. Steve posted somewhere that he thought a Gush/Storm build would be strong, but then tested it and found he wanted Dryad's. The return of Gush puts GaT right back where it was, with no loss of maindeck strength.
I'm not convinced that any control deck will be able to stop it.
Time to start testing.
Dave.

Man, long time since I've been on...I hope you're well! Will the changes in the Banned/Restricted affect your build? It would be interesting to see if multiple Vises or multiple Mind Twist's would add to a modified build.
Also, will the return of Gush move you to modify a couple of slots?
Dave.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Do you enjoy playing T1?
|

I love type 1. I find it exciting and challenging. Like many others here, I have a wife, kids, job, and mortgage. Combined with the lack of available type 1 tourneys (until recently) it was difficult (or impossible) to keep up with the format.
Now that we have a regular T1 that's worth going to (at Dear Mr. Fantazy's) I find that I'm looking forward to playing more than ever. I even find that I make time to quietly reflect on the cards and their interactions, which can be a lot of fun.
This is a format that requires practice. You can't just disappear for a few months and then come back with an expectation of doing well if you don't study. If you find the format stagnant, then get bold and build rogue. It's not like you're playing for ratings points. And maybe you'll come up with something surprisingly good.

Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / [Report] Team GRO's Intution Slaver takes 2nd at Waterbury
|

@Smmenen: The point I"m making is that while Intuition Slaver is broken, Tog can compete with it quite fine. ...yawgwill... Tony Soto and I played the Team Gro list (for the Dear Mr. Fantazy Mox Ruby tournament on Feb. 5th) with modifications as follows: +1 Underground Sea +1 Yawgmoth's Will +1 Darksteel Colossus - 1 Tolarian Academy - 2 Deep Analysis DS Colossus was amazing for me all day, but I still took 2 losses (to Fish!? and to Dragon). Yawgwill really belongs in the deck, and was awesome the whole day. Tony lost to TPS and to Tog. Tog just topdecks like it's cheating (when it isn't...) and is amazingly strong. The version we saw was 4-color and used only 2 Togs in it. I'm in total agreement with you that Tog can compete with Intuition Slaver, especially after watching the matchup. It came down to Tog topdecking a D.Tutor for Lotus, and then playing Yawgwill, with Tony about one turn from winning the match. Dave.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Do you Test Type One on a Regular Basis?

Smmenen said: Cool. Maybe we'll play in a tourament some day. This was in response to someone saying that they don't like to test...they just like to play...I'm quoting this because Smmenen is right-on here. If you just want to "play", then I hope to meet you across the table someday too, because I will be better prepared than you. Preparation wins matches. Testing is critical, and it's not the same as goldfishing. For me, "testing" involves pulling out several stacks of cards that have the potential of earning a slot in my deck list, and then trying those cards in the deck. Taking notes on which cards made a "difference" during simulated play is very important. This can be very time consuming because a single card may not make a difference, but combined with another card becomes golden. Using a tool like Magic Workstation (MWS) is also very important. You should have a gauntlet of decks pre-built in MWS that you play against with the deck you are testing. This will help you decide which cards in your stack make the cut into the final list. I wish I had more time to test, because (to me) this is an important key to successful tournament play. Dave.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Discussion] Adapting Tog to win in this metagame.

You guys are literally out of your minds. Come on Jaco. What do you really think? I'm starting to think that Tog for the current environment could drop green and go with UBw for Disenchant, STP, Serenity, Dismantling Blow, and Tempest of Light. Honestly, except for Berserk, how much green is there that might not be better as white? Dave.
