2-2 Gets you top 8 at 6th place? I know what PTQ I'm going to next year!

I didn't catch the guy's name, but he was playing fairy stompy. Jitte, Chalice @ 1, and Pro Red Guys are some good vs. burninator in the top 8, top 4, and then the finals. Wink

Going into the top 8:

1st: Burninator
2nd: Burninator
3rd: Burninator

What is this format coming to?
4  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: [Casual, Multiplayer] Kavu Predator on: April 13, 2007, 07:09:28 pm
Heroes' Reunion =  WG - Instant - Target Player Gains 7 Life
Ageless Entity 3GG = 4/4 - Whenever you gain life, put that many +1/+1 Counters on This Guy

I'd be playing both the kavu and the entity, and then you can point the targeted life gain at either player, depending on what you have on board...then random healing salve or leaves becomes real good.

And also

Well of Lost Dreams - 4 - Artifact - Whenever you gain life, you may pay X, where X is less than or equal to the amount of life you gained. If you do, draw X cards.

Which could also turn out stupid.

Hope this helps.

Not that anyone knows who I am, but I'll be going assuming I can get a handfull of people together to carpool with. Playing something that's not goblins, thresshold, high tide, or iggy.  Smile
6  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [announcement] The Meandeck Open LEGACY Columbus OH 12/17 *SANCTIONED* on: December 19, 2006, 04:08:10 pm
*grumble* who the hell plays Rifter? That was just stupid.

Rofl, that was me. And that was the reaction I was getting all day. I managed to lose to goblins round 5, but if I was able to pull out game that game 3, I would have been able to draw into the top 8. Good times though, if there is another one coming, I'll totally attend, but this time armed with starstorms!
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Slivers Casual/Multiplayer Highlander on: November 22, 2006, 12:25:33 pm
I was in the process of building the best all slivers highlander deck EVER, (40 lands, 60 slivers, one of each) however my calculations were wrong, and there are 59 slivers (Coolstuffinc.com counted the sliver token card as a sliver) instead of 60. I don't want to run a 41st land (40 lands in 100 cards is equivilent to 24 lands in 60 cards, and the curve actually is pretty okay.) So I have room for ONE non sliver card. Any ideas? So far I've come up with these possibilities:

Slate of Ancestry
Proteus Machine
Coallation Victory
Karona, False God
Mistform Ultimus
Harsh Mercy
Patriarch's Bidding

but I'm sure ther's something better that I've missed. What would you run?

Also, if I play elder dragon highlander with it, I'm gonna hafta take out sliver overlord from the maindeck as well, which frees up a second spot! What would you run there?

Thanks for the ideas!
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Report] RGSA Top 8 in Flint Michigan on: September 10, 2006, 08:22:44 pm
I'm not gonna make a whole new post with my boring RGSA tournament report - just some things that stood out in my mind:

Maindeck pyrostatic pillar is a HOUSE. It caught people way off guard, and it won me lots of games by itself. Combo matchups are surprisingly winnable postboard, with Chalice, Crypt, Pillar, Baloths, and a Splash of random Artifact hate that swings for two.

Papa John's IMO is the greatest pizza evar.

Tangle is like a time walk vs. goblins...and is awesome if you can follow up with survival for witness for tangle. I didn't play vs. goblins at all yesterday, but It randomly won me a game the one time I did cast it to tap two mongeese for two turns of counterattacking. Super secret tech!

Chalice of the Void got sided in 4 out of my 6 swiss rounds. I was thrilled to have it available to me.

Super mario brothers for the SNES is classic. The blue yoshi is broken.

At one point, I had duplicant in my maindeck. Then he went to my sideboard. Then he came out completely. Unless reanimator gets huge, out is where he'll stay. I never missed him.

I never tutored for goblin sharpshooter the whole tournament, (albeit I didn't play vs. goblins) and if I had him randomly in my hand, I always had better things to cast. He may come out.

Watching DeMars and Angel fistfight because angel wouldn't draw him into the top 8 would have been really, really funny.

RGSA isn't dead! It just needs refining. We're working on it. Add it to your gauntlets. Rawr!

From the notes section at:

http://www.professional-events.com/WotC%20Events/PTQ%20Charleston%2006/PTQ-Charleston-Col-040806.htm

"- We will have a dealer on-site starting at 9:00 AM for those last minute card needs.  Dealers will have singles, wax, deck boxes and deck sleeves."

Wax?

Do team ptq's have candlemaking top 8 play offs now?
or Kinky sex finals?

If spirits hadn't taken it...I totally would have suggested Food Chain Myojins.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / How would the creation of these cards impact type one? on: January 12, 2006, 07:02:49 pm
So wizards can't reprint power. That's fine. Wizards can't endorse proxies. That's fine. But they can print whatever new cards they want right? This may not be a new idea...but just in case - Imagine the shot in the arm that type one would get if a cycle of cards was printed as follows:

Blue Mox
Artifact
0
Blue Mox is Restricted (You can only play one Blue Mox in your deck)
You cannot play Blue Mox in the same deck as a card called Mox Sapphire.
Tap: Add U To your Mana Pool

(repeat for the other 4 moxen)
Ancient Lotus
Artifact
0
Ancient Lotus is Restricted
You cannot play Ancient Lotus in the same deck as a card called Black Lotus
Tap, Sacrifice Ancient Lotus: Add 3 Mana of any one color to your mana pool.

Borrowed Time
Sorcery
1U
Borrowed Time is Restricted
You cannot play Borrowed time in the same deck as a card called Time Walk.
Take an extra turn after this one.

(repeat for the rest of the p9 or 10)

And print them at uncommon or something. Type one would get a huuge boost, as the deterrent for most people from playing type one is the initial cost of being competetive. There could be wizards endorsed, sanctioned type one events on the scale of reigonals or champs.

Thoughts?

With 6 Blue Blasts, Galina's Knights, MoR, and StP, I'm surprised U/W Fish lost to Goblins.

I didn't see game one, but I know in game two he didn't see any blue sources. Kind of hard to cast anything on that list minus stp w/o islands.  Wink
14  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Richmond Legacy Report on: September 27, 2005, 09:44:45 pm
Well, I would write a report...but all I remember from the early rounds was that I was tired, hungry, I had to piss really badly but didn't have time between rounds, and I had a splitting headache. It was just a lot of turning guys sideways. (I heart legacy!)  My one loss in swiss was to a guy playing u/w landstill, winning game one and then playing v e r y - s l o w l y through game two to prevent me from winning. I probably should have called a judge, but eh.

Originally I was running Llanowar Elves and Fyndhorn elves. Without STP, 8 guys who can trade with a turn 1 lackey is fantastic. Originally, my SB was a lot more green heavy than it ended up being, so when I switched it up to include more red cards, I felt my manabase had to change too. I really didn't want to lose forests for mountains, because of their synergy with Rofellos...so I decided to lose Llanowar elves for Birds.

Also, birds make the landstill matchup better...because they can't block SoFI'd birds with manlands like they can with elves. Little things add up I guess.  Mr. Green

Damn...I might have to change my name to "The RGSA Player". I guess I was the guy who gave outlaw his 2nd loss in swiss round 5 and took Orlov out of t8. Sorry if I screwd stuff up guys. Wink

But that reanimator deck was indeed amazing! Possibly it's biggest advantage was it's surprise factor. When he went turn 1 swamp-go...I hadn't the slightest clue what he was playing. Turn 2 mountain, zombie infestation also blew my mind. Turn 3 Make a zombie with squee and akroma and then reanimate akroma made it all clear for about 3 seconds before ak-rowdy smashed my face for 6. I nearly scooped to that until I realized that I had an out.

And Just for accuracy, in game 2 I swang with a team of like 5 small dudes into Orlov's nishoba, and I had to POP him for 2 in response to the lifegain for the win.

Both games were super close and Orlov's a nice guy. Props.
