1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Where Can One Buy "beat-up" Power? on: December 18, 2006, 08:27:21 pm
LOL Honestly I dont even think thats in that bad of condition. I had a chance about 5 years ago to buy a lotus that went through a washer for $100 but for whatever reason decided not to.  I mean I dont care if its bent or anything, I just want decently priced power-even if its ripped. So there arent any other places than ebay?

Hey guys, I want to buy some power, mainly lotus but not spending the full price for one in mint condition.  I decided, since I dont care what condition it is in, Ill go for a heavily played/poor conditioned one, afterall Ill be using sleeves.  Where can I find one of these? I have scoured ebay but it seems they will be a very very rare sight there.  Do any of you know how someone can go about acquiring beat up power at a reasonable price?
3  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / New Storm Combo Piece? on: December 01, 2006, 03:01:58 pm
Im talking about the card Ground Rift from TimeSpiral.

Ground Rift                   R
Sorcery

Target creature without flying cannot block this turn
STORM

I have retired from vintage for a while now to play standard and limited competatively.  I first saw this card in a draft (obviously I did not take it) but it did trigger my Vintage way of thinking...the ability to create a much larger storm base for 1 mana?  What do you guys think about this? It just seems like Vintage will get even more ridiculous with this card-tendrils and brain freeze no longer need to be stretched so far that they fizzle which can obviously be a problem in storm based decks, but it also helps alleviate some silly life gain or what-not that may have stopped your 9 spell tendrils from effectively killing your opponent?

Ive been away from the forums for a long time and was quite sad to see this happen.  HOWEVER I mean...you guys need to grow up- just because someone is selling a Beta Lotus for example...does not mean they are the thief, plenty of people have full playsets of Beta...you dont know every player with Beta power.

It is good that you guys are trying to contribute positively to this catastrophe but I would really caution about making random accusations.  This is especailly true when you consider how large the NYC area is-its a shame this happened and its even worse to realize its most likely going to go unsolved, but because of this fact you cant just accuse every seller of being a thief

Hmm enormous card disadvantage? Last I knew Ophidian was card advantage-with multiple Phids out you are going to be discarding anyways, masticore also eats little pests be it Confidants, Welders..oh yeah and he regenerates ^_^

You want decent 1st turn counters? Im pretty sure that every other deck does just fine with FoW's. Force Spike is trash, I mean Daze isnt exactly the next Ancestral but its 100x better than Spike, I would also reccommend maybe MD Annul? How are MD Remoras? Ive never tried them out but Id imagine they would be nifty.

As for capsize, naturally most decks will not run it due to its buyback cost, since combo/aggro combo decks wont be buying it back Echoing Truth is obviously better, but Mono U has always utilized Capsize (probably the only deck that has consistantly used it), not only is it pitchable but it works wonders mid-late game.

I mean if you are not running Mana Drains I would definately cut atleast 1 morphling, run something like Masticore instead =).  Personally, I prefer Daze over Force Spike for later counterbattles, where they are going to tap out trying to counter your counters, or maybe even try to go broken and combo out on you. It definately comes in handy when all you gotta do is return a tapped Island to your hand Wink. I definately think Impulses too should be added, nothing like digging through your deck at an extremely cheap cc.  I mean if you are playing maindeck B2B...maybe Null Rod would compliment it? Ofcourse the Kegs would get dropped maybe for Control Magic or even Echoing Truths or 2 truths + 1 capsize?

I thought that I would chime in on this discussion.

There are a few problems with using blue in a sui deck...the main one being that you are straying from the goal of the deck-winning as fast as possible. Each turn that you are playing you are closer and closer to losing.  In order to deal with this fact, disruption (of the hand, and at times manabase of your opponents) has classically been the solution.  I would drop blue completely there is no advantage at all.

I am now going to suggest cards which I think are of merit:
Unmask - Its free and is pretty tech when combined with a first turn negator
Duress - I think its self explanatory
Hymn - Again, self explanatory Im not sure if playing 4 of this AND unmask is a good idea, try to find a balance, maybe 3 hymn 2 unmask?

Maindeck planar void I would imagine is your only hope for winning (against top tier decks)...its going to be a pain in the ass for most decks quite frankly thus disabling such brokenness as: Yawgs Will, Recoup, Welder, Intuition (well disables the abuse of it), Gifts (again hitting the abuse of the card + recoup for walk, etc you know the deal), Dragon.dec, Oath (all versions), I dont think I need to keep going.

I mean obviously sui isnt a Tier 1 deck, and without certain tech that will be unexpected (atleast as far as maindeck is concerned) for the most part/versatile in the meta its just going to lose every match quite frankly.

Upon thinking about your splashing of blue, the only color I really see being effective atm is white (Kataki, Suppression Field) which I would expect to be relatively strong considering the major archtypes today.
