1  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Announcement]Legacy Cash Tournament Chicago,IL 3-18-07 on: March 24, 2007, 08:51:04 pm
One game tommy mulled to 4 against Owen, and game three tommy had owen down to one life but couldnt get rid of pillar so he lost.  Basically Tommy had manabase problems against goblins that he couldnt get over.  Tes isnt that good against decks with wasteland.
2  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Wasteland and STrip Mine playability? on: March 15, 2007, 07:26:36 pm
i think three strips is right for oath.  They dont create colored mana so you dont want to see too many.  ICBM oath also runs a mishras factory in the main so we dont want to waterdown our mana base too much.  They're good in the mirror and against ichorid, but how many mirrors or ichorid decks will you play in tourneys.  You  need to focus on beating combo and gifts, which can easily play around wasteland.

ICBM oath has 4 chalices to deal with getting duress+this.  I dont think it will be too dificult to deal with.  Just counter duress.

Good job ICBM.
5  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: AK Scroll Control (Urb Drain Tendrils) *Codename: Bill Cosby on: January 13, 2007, 10:57:30 pm
I@N from ICBM was actually testing a tog list exactly like this, but dropped tog because it wasnt strong enough.  I think the fact that most decks are running wipe away now makes creature kills harder.  Trinkbind is a problem for this deck but you will see it less maindeck.  I think this deck is strong because you have the draw package of gifts (merchant scroll+Ancestral Recall) in addition to the intuition/AK engine.  In a gifts dominate metagame this deck will do well because it can get lots of card advantage.

style is all in the 50 black lotus 50 sharazad.dec but your tendrils list is pretty bitchin
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Can Shahrazad be competitive? on: December 01, 2006, 04:38:16 pm
i played against shahrazad in legacy, and game one he got me to the subgame.  i opened my hand, and the conceded.  Game two I had a weak hand he goes to the subgame, and i pull an awesome hand, kill him, he takes ten, and then beat him with 3 mogg Fanatics.  So i think smart people will play this correctly making it hard to beat competitive vintage players.

TK thinks UW fish is a bye for slaver. Then again, he thinks ICBM Oath and Gifts are byes for slaver, and Pitchlong is favorable. Idiot.

Yeah what does tommy know?  Hes never done well at a major event.  Except worlds, waterbury, and several SCG's.
9  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Ongoing Roanoke Results on: November 18, 2006, 02:53:55 pm
yeah i think this is a weird time for a lot of people to trek out to virginia.  TK couldnt go because deer hunting season started, and a bunch of us in wisconsin are nearing the end of the semester so we're prety bogged down in homework.

I just heard from the Carps that tommy is drawing in to the top 8 already.  That kid is on fire.
12  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Results and Lists] Game Universe Milwaukee! on: August 03, 2006, 07:52:49 pm
It was me.  I needed a way to amuse my self during my scrub out.  3-3 with GrimLong not that fantastic.

By the way i thought the tourney was great, so props to Games Universe.  The showing was large and diverse.  As far as the Rhyno situation goes, that play was over the top out of the ordinary.  Rhyno clearly saw something wrong with it, and everyone around saw the error, just no one knew what you were even trying to accomplish.
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: GGifffs.. on: July 06, 2006, 07:48:35 pm
I think this deck is extremely close to meandeck gifts.  I've been playing the deck heavily since last gencon and it is overall underestimated.

Scrying brings up issues like giving fish a quicker clock, as well as removing bussiness spells from your GY.  I think it is weak in gifts, and i think having a fourth scroll is more important for fetching FoW, MisD, or AR.  Scrying=overvalued, merchant scroll=undervalued.

Congrats however in winning with one of the best decks in the format.

Congrats to tommy.  Big props to MKE.
15  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Pastimes(Chicago, IL) Emerald on 5/28/06 on: June 02, 2006, 03:23:45 pm
Yeah Ben beat you in swiss and then lost to you in the first round of elimination.  I dont think his playskill needs to be questioned.  I think him top 8ing in 5 out of 6 tourneys hes played oath in should prove that he's a little more then a garbage player who got lucky.
16  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Premium Article] Sucking with aggro on: June 02, 2006, 12:41:40 pm
I played against Adrian Sulivan playing a U/B fish deck that was terribly interesting.  He ran Erayo, dimir cutpurse, and confidants for a creature base, and then just used forces, duress, and EEs as his disruption.  It went undefeated until the semi finals.  it was a distinctly different deck and i think the new approach Adrian brought to the format helped alot.
17  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Pastimes(Chicago, IL) Emerald on 5/28/06 on: June 02, 2006, 12:25:22 pm
Soly once in your life have some tact.  Ben consistently plays well and i believe Ben Carp said Ben Roberts was the only person to beat him in a mirror match in recent history, so Ben must know how to play the deck well.  Soly you could have just been happy playing well and taking fourth but instead you chose to embarrass yourself and your team, good game.  You looked like an ass just like you looked like an ass when you blew up on tommy at Games Universe.
18  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Single Card Discussion] Mana Maze on: April 17, 2006, 05:30:21 pm
this card is by all means aggrovating for a gifts or combo player.  With IT and GrimLong you are ofter relying on plays like dark rit, grim, yawg will.  I think gifts is going to have less of a problem with this card but when put on top of strips and spheres it definetly poses a problem.
19  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: For Proxies, should SCG allow people to print a slip of paper in sleeve? on: December 27, 2005, 02:04:54 pm
I think the print outs are better.  You need a marker to clearly see the card text, but in one tourney i was missing a jitte and it was very unpleasent to write out a lot of card text AND make it readible
20  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Proxies: Yet another re-evaluation of a touchy subject on: December 27, 2005, 02:02:23 pm
In Milwaukee, I have seen a lot of kids coming over to vintage who are proxying out entire stax decks or whatnot to give vintage a shot and in almost every case they started to go out and get the real cards.  The proxies allow  younger or poorer players to get to know their deck before making investments, but i think every magic player has the desire to buy real cards.  It took me a while to get the cash for my set of drains/duals but I wanted them, and although there is proxies i still intend on getting power because real cards are nice.

I think Vroman's idea would work if they made the top 50 most expensive cards, but made them shitty looking so that no top player would want them in their deck.
21  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Memory Jar in Slaver on: November 30, 2005, 09:59:49 pm
Currently I am testing Memory Jar in slaver.  Its awesome for when i try to go for a storm kill, and pretty good when im sticking to the standard slaver game plan.  I know Draw7s have a lot of diadvantages vs. the control match but this card has been awesome when I've played against 5Cstax.  I could see it being not so good against Uba stax but I havent had a chance to test it.  It is a welder target which is nice when trying to fill your graveyard.  Has anyone done any testing or tried this card out?
22  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Specialist or Generalist? on: November 29, 2005, 08:13:07 pm
I think in this format is is absolutely crucial to have experience playing a variety of decks.  However, being a specialist is very important too.  As JD says oneness with your deck is very important when you get into a jam.  The reason i think you should still play a wide variety of decks is because it will give you the knowledge of what their ideal hand is when they are playing you.  I think Steve talks about this when learning to pilot grimlong.  You need to know what their best hand is.  The other benefit to having experience playing a variety of decks is in the deck building process.  It is easier to gage how strong a card is when you know how it actually effects you when you are playing against it.
23  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: (Article and updated Primer) How to play control slaver now. on: November 26, 2005, 02:06:31 pm
Ok this may seem a bit crazy, but i have been playing slaver for about 6 months and recently started toying with the tendrils alt. kill, and was wondering has anyone tried memory jar in slaver.  Its a bit off the beaten path but with tinker/welders it seems like it could be an extremely powerful draw engine for comboing out on an opponant...Any thoughts?
