1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Zendikar boosters include Ancestral Recall? on: September 27, 2009, 04:22:44 pm
Right now, Starcitygames and other sites just moved their prices up for ALL the new fetch lands...

15-->17,50 for RW, WB, GB

17-->19-20 for RU, GU

Prices are kinda crazy also for the Foil version...

40 for RW, WB, GB
70 for RU
80 for GU
2  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Budgetdeck for BoM 3 on: April 23, 2009, 09:10:50 pm
I don't really like Thorn in your build...you only have 12 critter to get through.

If I was to play a budget deck, 3 decks comes to my mind: Dredge, Landstill and RGB Hate. With Dredge, you don't need Power to play, you can probably put togheter a playset of Bazaar to play a Tier1 deck?!? Landstill need just a few pieces to be competitive (Ancestrall, Walk, Drains and Sapphire). RGB Hate is a weird deck design to kill a certain metagame it usually runs R,G,B moxes nut it can survive and still work without them (look if you think it can beat the metagame you think you'll be facing (this deck was build by Wagner a friend of mine.)

I'm gonna even provide you some decklist ideas...

Did you guys notice that this particular deck was "Control Slaver" originally or people just moved the blabla on the other thread!?!?

I would like some feedback!

PS (I couldn't check the premium post...about Tez but I'll do very soon. I just have to wait a bit to get Premium!!)
7  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck Discussion] GI's (Hadley) Control Tezzeret on: November 30, 2008, 01:52:23 pm
Some lists abroad have used Welder: http://www.morphling.de/top8decks.php?id=949
I am very intrigued by the use of a couple welder's in this deck.  Returning Vault and Key are obviously very powerful tools, and this is going to be the next thing that I test.  Has anyone had any experience with Welder-ed lists that they can speak to?

Hi everyone! The decklist that you can see in this link was made by two of my teammates (Ugo Rivard & Ian Sauvé Team CRET) from Montreal. Some of you might remember Ugo for stealing the top prices at the SCG: Rochester tourneys (more than once!!!) The first time would be when we quebecers brought to the world the name deck "Bomberman"... But for you to know, Ugo wasn't playing "Bomberman", he was playing CONTROL SLAVER.

He's doing very very well with this deck from there 'till now. Winning a couple of tournament around Quebec, making a lot of top 4/top 8 appearances, Ugo has a certain fervor for the deck!!! Every now and then the decklist of Control Slaver changed a bit but those were minor modification/tweaking from the original decklist. The shell of the deck will never go away... The deck is doing well in the new "Magic" environment (restriction and all new decks) but needed maybe a new twist to be more consistent. When I showed up with Tezzeret at a Poker/Ante night, it all gotten started. We talked for hours about how Wizards could remove/make an errata on Time Vault and releasing Tezzeret at the same time!?!? A one card combo, that pitch to Force of Will and Misdirection. Conclusion, we had to play it.

Ok, now we can go back to that quoted decklist. This isn't a Tezzeret decklist with Welders in it... don't get me wrong... it's a CONTROL SLAVER decklist with Tezzeret combo in it. (!?!?!?!?) Same thing, no! Look alike, yes! The approach is totally different if you're playing Tezz or Slaver... you probably won't make the same decisions from one deck to the other because of the card pool/backup plans you have.

Basically, we took out the combo pieces from Control Slaver and replaces them for Tezzeret combo.

-1 Gift Ungiven
-1 Crucible of Worlds
-1 Seat of Synod

+2 Tezzeret
+1 Time Vault

And that the result is called:
MIND OF THE SEEKER.
http://www.deckcheck.net/deck.php?id=21363

I tried so hard to make them include 1x Voltaic Key but mission failed.
They told me over and over that the Key IS a dead card in your hand 97% of the time.
So her inclusion would be a card disadvantage and card advantage is probably the Key of this deck!!! (No dead cards in hand)
That's why we play 2x Ancestral Recall (meaning 1x Ancestral Recall main deck and the one in YOUR deck!!) Wink

So that's the idea we had behind our heads when building this deck...

My 2 cents, for now!

Honorable mention to Undiscovered Paradise in the 5c decklist. WOW! this land is just amazing in that decklist. I'll cut down 1x City of Brass and add another Paradise in...They're so good, they really saved my day!!

HI everyone!

I played Dawn of the Dead again this weekend at Toronto (Double Lotus Tournament).

Format: Vintage
64 Participants in MAIN Event.
6 rounds of Swiss.
- Followed by T8 Playoffs!!!
Tournament Organizer: Untouchable

I did 3 - 2 - 1 loosing in 6th round made me miss the TOP 8 (and the guy who beat me that game didn't pass...I would had pass 'cause I had the best tie breakers...)

Game 1: WIN! (2 - 1) vs TK Nauts
Game 2: DRAW! (1 - 1) vs GAT (Slow play) (This guy made Top8)
Game 3: WIN! (2 - 1) vs Gush Storm
Game 4: WIN! (2 - 0) vs "BGW" looked like a mirror match but in the end it wasn't.
Game 5: LOST! (2 - 1) vs MUD (This guy made Top8)
Game 6: LOST! (2 - 0) vs Tyrant Oath

I'll do a little overview of the day and my report with my decklist later on.

That top 8 was weird. How is that elemental deck good? Its like, block...

I would say "Special"...The deck is full of surprise!
I think what made it good is that nobody was ready to see something like it!

==============

Has for Razorman...Only one guy I know runs them (2x main deck, 2x sideboard)
And they always gets Sworded!! After the Upkeep of course!!
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Dawn of the Dead on: January 22, 2008, 06:38:36 pm
Ploly...I guess you're more than right!

With some more time to think about it, I should have Tutor for something else, Zombie Infestation perhaps like you said.

I'm going to take the deck next weekend to Toronto (First place = Black Lotus, Second place = Black Lotus, ...).

After palying the deck, I don't think Pithing Neddle is really needed in the sideboard. We absolutly don't need a 4th Ray of Revelation in the board, 3x Ray is enough. I didn't saw any Stacks or Workshop, how do you guys did against these deck? Does 2x Oxidise do the job or do I have to live room for let say 1x Krosan Grip or Seeds of Innocence!?

Do you think a special tech like Sandstorm or Rain of Blades could save us from little swarm like Goblins, Slivers, Tokens...???

elgoff,./*

You guys should go and have a look at the tournament I went (One of the weirdess T8 I've seen, In the main event...) : http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=35217.0

Report Quebec Vintage Championship 2007

Dawn of the Dead (4 – 2 – 0)

I lost to my two first match up…so, no Top 8 this time!
The deck did what it is suppose to do, except versus Goblins!?!? WTF?

Here’s a brief analysis of each match up:

Round 1: Goblins (R)
Game 1: Loose to dice roll. My opponent mulligan to 6 cards. I keep a hand with Bazaar, Squee, Infestation, Jet, Portal+2 lands. He starts with Lackey, Lotus, sac Lotus for Blood Moon!!! Game plan changes to : play Jet + ”Mountain”, drop Zombie Infestation and pass the turn. Luckily I had that Mox Jet,  I win a couple of turns after…
Game 2: (-2 Duress, + 2 Ray) I keep a hand with Bazaar, Squee, Squee, Swords, Thoughtseize +2 lands. I lead with Bazaar, he goes with Lackey. I activate Bazaar in response discard Squee, Squee, Portal. I draw a land, activate Bazaar again to find nothing…I drop Mox Pearl + Bayou then passing the turn. When lackey attacks / I swords it! Then all the next turns look like: I activate Bazaar discard Squee, Squee, + (lands, Loam) playing a couple of Thoughtseize to discard his best Goblins…I eventually die under 2-3 Piledriver!
Game 3: I have Fetch, Bazaar, Demonic, Ray, Swords, Swords, Swords. I start with a Fetch, he goes with Vandals. I don’t remember what Vandal do so I drop a Lotus in front of him some time in the game…Mistake…Wasted my land…Then I tried to come back in the game but that error cost me a big lost of tempo. I Demonic on another ‘Goyf. I play 2 ‘Goyf, Bob…But Bob gets Gempalm Incinerated on the way of many Goblins that attacked for the game…

Round 2: Food Chain Goblins
Game 1: Win dice roll. Keep a very decent hand of Mox, 2 lands, Bob, Gaddock, ‘Goyf, Duress. I lead with Duress seeing another Goblin deck…nothing to discard!!! He combo out within 5 turns…(Food Chain + Recrutor)
Game 2: (-1 Loam, -3 Duress, +2 Pithing Needle, + 2 Ray) I don’t remember my hand but it was playable…I start with Needle first turn naming Gempalm. He has a FCG God Hand and combo out turn 2 or 3, I can’t remember.

Wow. Deception. Lost to Goblins. I still continue the day to see what are the next match up.

Round 3: Green Elf (Young player)
Game 1 and Game 2. (-2 Duress, + 2 Needle) In both games, all I saw in play is a total of 2x Wellwisher, 1x Timberwatch Elf, 1x Elvish Champion…All got Sworded before the next upkeep, except for 1x Wellwisher that gave him about 3 lifes! The other elves got discarded by Thoughtseize before he could cast them…Easy win!

Round 4: GAT with ‘Goyf & Bob!?
Game 1: Loose dice roll. Keep hand of Bazaar, Squee, Land, 2x Duress, Bob, Swords. He leads with Mox + Land + Bob…I play swords on Bob for him not to start drawing like crazy…The turn after I see 2x Tarmogoyf in front of me! I drop Bazaar start digging in my library to fing some more Swords. I eventually get the entire counters out or discarded to finally Swords both Tarmo. I just needed a few turns to crush him with an Infestation of zombie tokens…
Game 2: (-2 Infestation, -2 Loam, + 4 Thorn). He start with Leyline into play. That shouts down my original hand play. (I had Mox Jet, Fetch, 2 Squee, Infestation, Thoughtseize, Duress) I wanted to play Infestation first turn but nothing to gain from it in the future…So I wrecked his hand first turn playing Thoughtseize first witch got FOW (pitch on Drain), then I cast Duress discarding Ancestral Recall!!! The next turn I played Dark Confidant. The turn after another one plus a Tarmogoyf…Win! Nothing got in the way! I didn't saw any Dryads but he told me that he was playing some...weird build for a GAT deck.

Round 5: Oath with Transformer Sideboard into GAT.
Game 1: I loose again to dice roll. Keep a very decent hand of Mox, 2 lands, Bob, Grunt, Thoughtseize, Duress. My opponent starts by casting Duress on me…removing Duress. I follow by casting the Mox and after Thoughtseize on FOW. (I saw Tyrant and Orchard in his hand…) So he’s playing Oath…I have to race now knowing that. I cast Bob turn 2 and Grunt turn three. On his fourth turn he cast Bargain…drawing 9 cards…he’s going right away for Tinker to find Platinum in his deck…Next few turn I attack, attack, attack…waiting to find a Duress to protech the 2x Swords I had in hand to kill the Angel.
Game 2: (-2 Infestation, -1 Loam, + 3 Ray of Revelation) Keep a hand with Swords, Ray, Ray, Tarmo, Tarmo, Bayou, Bazaar. I drop Bazaar digging in…finding 1x Squee + Mox!! So, I discard Squee, Ray, Ray. I never say a Oath because he switch them for some Dryads!?!? Anyway, the following turn I draw Lotus to cast both Tarmogoyf, Good Game Sir!

Round 6: Sullivan Solution with MD Jailers!
Game 1: I win dice roll! My opponent mulligan down to 5 cards…I Duress first turn Misdirection, second turn I Duress Ancestral Recall. He plays Jailer first turn after top decking a Mox. I didn't find some Guys or Swords to remove the Jailer until late in the game...witch brings me down to 2 life. I finally Swords it. Drop Grunt & Gaddock (totally screw his hand…) in the mid time and kill him in 4-5 turns.
Game 2: (No side in) I have a God hand. (Lotus, Jet, Fetch, Thoughtseize, 2x ‘Goyf, Grunt). My opponent leads with Brainstorm. On my first turn I go with Jet + Thoughtseize seing not much but 1x FOW, 1x Drain and no other blue cards…bye bye Drain. Then I drop my Fetch, cast Lotus + 2x Tarmogoyf. What a first turn! I kill my opponent within 2-3 turns.

+): Jotun Grunt & Squee for being there when I needed them the most. Bob for not killing me!
-): Goblins for taking me out so early in the day. NO TOP 8 this time...

THANKS...see ya.

DarkfnTemplar, you're so right.

Exept maybe for Terravore...I don't think I'll play him...
16  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Dawn of the Dead on: January 09, 2008, 12:49:13 pm
so...what do you say...?
17  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Dawn of the Dead on: January 08, 2008, 08:17:04 pm
mind censor is neat, but for three mana he is a not worth it. He's mediocre vs. aggro, and he still doesn't shut gat down. If you're going to kill gat, you need to focus on killing its win conditions, not its protection. 4x Swords and superior aggro beat gat. Duress and seize shut down its protection.
I think that teeg and censor are about even in games versus gat. Censor isnt a bounce lightning rod like teeg is, so I choose to play him (among other reasons.)
With stax, long, and empty gifts seeing a lot of play, i think teeg is fine.

But in the end, ill have to agree with my team leader. Otherwise, I'm stuck on de-sleeving duty for a month....

Right now, after a couple of days of testing...

Gaddock Teeg > Aven Mindscensor

In most match up tested (GAT, Empty Gush, Red Stack, Mono Brown Stack, Bomberman, Oath, Flash, Fish variants, Long variants, FCG, Suicide) Teeg was superior/better!

"Noncreature spells with X Mana in their mana costs can't be played."

It's crucial for the deck to be abble to block Chalice of the Void (set @ 1 and set @ 2) and Engineered Explosives.

"Noncreature spells with converted mana cost 4 or greater can't be played."

That part isn't the best, I can agree, I prefer Mindscensor ability from far away! (I love to play him in responce to a Fetch land!)
But I look at it as a bonus that comes with the first ability...Anyhow, you still get benefits from it.
No Force of Will, No Misdirection, No Gush, No Empty the Warren, No Tendrills, No Smokestack, etc...

In conclusion, in this deck Gaddock is your friend.
Chat with him and become friends.
Then, he'll come when you need him the most!!!

Instead of Terravore, did anyone try Doran, The Siege Tower in here. Hes a bit lighter on your manabase for starters then Terravore. Also what are the thoughts on Aven Mindscensor in this deck? He is still insanely powerful, and should fit the tempo in this sort of deck rather well...granted he isn't a big beefy guy sadly.

^ look up ^

I really want another guy to put on the beats besides Tarmogoyf. It seems like I want just another guy to make sure the job gets done quickly, after I duress them to death.

I don't think we need more pressure...'Goyf do the job.

18  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Dawn of the Dead on: January 02, 2008, 11:44:08 am
We're talking about Mindscensor being played over Teeg...

But do you guys think (Glowrider) could be another solution...

Disrupting GAT, Combo... means Spheres of some kind.
19  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Dawn of the Dead on: December 29, 2007, 11:59:25 pm
A friend of mine took Dawn of the Dead (my deck!!) to first place in a 16 players Tournament (I know that's not a lot of player but anyway...) Here's the Métagame breakdown: 1 Oath (the deck I played), 2 Bomberman, 1 Gush Tinker, 1 GAT, 2 Parfait, 1 Suicide U-W, 1 Aggro B-R, 1 Dawn of the Dead, 1 Fish U-W-B, 1 Elemental, 1 Suicide B-W Splah Plagarize & co.???, 1 Aggro R-G, 1 Aggro W-G-R, 1 New Dark Elf

1st place: Samuel Vaillancourt
Deck: Dawn of the Dead

3 Thougthseize
4 Duress
2 Life from the Loam
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Balance
2 Gaddock Teeg
4 Squee, Goblin Nabob
1 Vampirirc Tutor
4 Swords to Plowshares
3 Zombie Infestation
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Dark Confidant
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Black Lotus
1 Strip Mine
2 Wasteland
1 Swamp
1 Plains
3 Windswept Heath
2 Bloodstained Mire
3 Bayou
3 Scrubland
4 Bazaar of Baghdad

Sideboard:
4 Leyline of the Void
2 Engineered Explosives
1 Seal of Primordium (Krosan Grip please!)
2 Oxidyze
2 Ray of Revelation
4 Thorn of Amethyst

After the day...Sam told me that even when Gaddock was suppose to be good he was just not good enough...mainly because Merchant Scroll is the key card to lock down and Gaddock can't. So Gaddock got sided out all day.

That brings a thought...Should we put Mindcensor over Gaddock Teeg, even if you get 3 mana late in the game...
"I see that those two cards are virtually interchangable. They perform the same role in slightly diffrent matchups. Mindcensor vs Gaddock is basicaly metagame call of flash vs ichorid respectively.", like vroman said.
I personnally gonna play Aven Mindscensor. He flies! and pass over Moat!! and lock down Tutor/Fetch engine!! and there's a lot of Scrolls in my area...

Other discussion: 3x Extirpate over 4x Leyline.

I would like to include 1 more Revelation (SB) because they are just insane these days with an Meta full of Oaths, Threads of Disloyalty, Leylines...Therefore, tooking out 4x Leyline let me room for 3x Extirpate and that 3rd Revelation.
So the question is : Is Extirpate better than Leyline in this deck?

What do  you guys put in the Sideboard for Flash matchup!?!? is Leyline our only chance!??! do I really gonna have to keep the Leylines!?!? last tournament no Flash but we had 4x Leylines + 2x Explosive ready for them...

thanks for any comments!
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Type 4 / Re: Type 4 Stack Lists and Resources on: May 16, 2007, 12:35:06 pm
I agree with removing Aeon Chronicler.  The card quality provided by his suspend just makes games unfair.  Also, what do you folks think about errating certain cards?  (For examble, taking fire breathing off Akroma, Angel of Fury)

Sam

You just have to add cards that will remove suspended cards...like pull from eternity and the new green guy that shuffle back a suspended card.

I don't put any erratas...I prefer not to play the card.

So NO FIREBREATHING abilities and NO X spells (a la Fireball).

Here's a link to my alphabetical Type 4 list. It also include cards not in the stack yet but that I have to incorporate sooner or later...

Not all of Futur Sight cards are included.

Alex Type 4 List : http://mtgquebec.walknet.org/viewtopic.php?t=3136
(french text but all cards are english...)

I'll create a post later on with a detailed listing.
