Copy/pasting a decklist and removing the creator's name and changing the deck's name (KI.Merchant) is by far less cool.

Hi and congratulation for your result Very Happy

I just have a few question on our building.
We have build a similaire deck in France with some differences:
As you have pointed out, this deck wants to draw tones of cards. Have you tryed Dimir Cutpurse for the ninja's slot ? It can often win the game by itself.
Were the mishra's factory very usefull ? We often had problem with colordeath during playtests and tournaments, and we didn't run them.
Concerning the spot removal, we ran 2 swords, and 2 Echoing Truth, but that was mainly a metagame call, have you been always happy with the 3 swords ?
You don't run brainstorm or top, how do you fell without them ? Also, no tutor (demonic or vamp) ?

Again, gratz for your result Wink
3  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck Discussion] Meandeck Ichorid on: August 18, 2006, 02:07:49 pm
The dragon breath/ sutured Zombie is actually very weak.
Your opponent can simply counter the Krosan Reclamation, making you lose on the spot, or simply bounce the Zombie, with the same result.
Activating the druid during your upkeep allows you to bring back some Ashen Ghoul, attack with them, and then flaskback your Therapies, just to be sure that he will do very things on his next turn.
Druid also has a nice synergie with Golgary Thug.
It is an other card (with BoB) that need to have a needle on it.

An it is not only a violently unstable win condition, but also a violently suicidant win condition from time to time Wink

The metagame was a very controllish one (3.33 FoW per deck).
The rest of the field was some stacks, some Oath-Salvager, and some other control (1izzet). Only one fish.

On the semi finals:
J.B Aymes beats F.Faucheux
A.Desbois beats L.Saiyasely

On the Final:
J.B.Aymes beats A.Desbois.

J.BAymes (Klu) is the new French champion.

DSC is there for the Druid. You have noticed that you can therapy jourself, buying you extra turns. Tinker has a 3cc, which is to expensive in the deck, and 7 artifacts are not enought to support it.

Quote
I definately don't agree with the numbers of your deck, 3 Ashen Ghoul and 4 Nether Shadow, 3 Golgari Grave Troll and 0 Stinweed Imp, 0 Unmask, no Balance, no Time Walk, no Crop Rotation (tho' I understand why not) no Strip Mine, no Chrome Mox and no Lotus Petal should be reconsidered.

The druid makes the deck much more faster. You never have your 4 black mana to bring back all of your Ashen Ghoul, that's why I only run 3. In a druidless buld, the right number seems to be 4.
The Nether Shadows can also be explained by the presence of the druid. They often deal the last points, since you always want to kill in the turn you have filled your graveyard.
The number of Golgary Cave Troll(3) and Imp(0) are due to the lack of space in this build. I barely never have problem to dredge whane I go on BoB mode.
Balance: I don't run white :p.
Unmask Vs Leyline. I don't have a lot of black cards to remove. Also, it was mainly a metagame call. I expected some Oath/salvager, some madness, some grim storm (grim long or IT), and in that metagame, Leyline are stronger.
Time walk was often in the build, but it didn't make the cut (I am already running 61 cards).
Strip is to random without Crop, I often havec better things to tutor for.
Chrome mox is not that good in this build, but Lotus petal is, but again, the number of place is very low.

I finished 4th with the following list at the French vintage championship 2weeks ago.

4th - Florian Faucheux    Menhir Team

MainDeck
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Leyline of the Void
4 Chalice of the Void

4 Ichorid
4 Nether Shadow
3 Ashen Ghoul
4 Golgari Thug
3 Golgari Grave-Troll
4 Hermit Druid
1 Darksteel Colossus

1 Wonder
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Darkblast
1 Imperial Seal
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Entomb
1 Vampiric Tutor
4 Bazaar of Baghdad

1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Emerald
1 Black Lotus
1 City of Brass
4 Polluted Delta
3 Bayou
3 Underground Sea
---------
4 Chain of Vapor
4 Pithing Needle
4 Null Rod
3 Oxidize
---------

I expected a very controllish metagame.
I played against Merchant.deck 3 times (2-0, 1-1 and 0-2 in semi finale and an ID), a madness (2-0), a stacks (2-0).

Some of the cards can be discussed (Druid, Nether) but the core of the deck remains strong.
Playing both druid and BoB allows to lessen the effect of needle.
Nethers keep preassure even without mana or black creatures in the graveyard.
Golgary Thug can be played more often that imp, and allow to recurse the druid.
12 disrupt seems to be the right number.
I didn't played Crop Rotation, because it too often gets countered, causing to lose the game.

I often sideboarded out CoTV or Leyline depending of the opposing deck.
Null Rod was never sided in.

Cabal therapy does not target the creature you sacrifice to it, nor can you sacrifice a card in your hand.

Running tinker colossus in this deck seems stupid to me anyways, you never have three mana, and if you do the game should have gone on long enough such that you only have dredge cards in hand.

I think you have misunderstod what I have tryed to explain: Confused
1/End Of Your Opponent's Turn, activate your druid, shuffle back your DSC
2/upkeep, bring back your Ichorid/ ghoul /shadows
3/Draw your DSC
4/attack with your critters and if not enought ->
5/ sacrifice one of your creature to flashback a cabal therapy targeting you and naming DSC (the one you have drawn this turn). Shuffle back your DSC, thus allowing you an other turn to finish the job  Cool .

And by the way, this deck doesn't run Tinker  Wink

I have tried to include CoTV, it fits in the deck's strategie, but I couldn't find a room for it.
8  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Ichorid on: March 04, 2006, 05:42:02 pm
Quote
You have one turn to deal 20+ damage before you lose the game

Dealing 20+ damage is rarely a problem with 4 ichorid and X ashen ghoul and X Nether Shadow (and 1 druid if needed).
But you have more than one turn to do that, even with only one DSC. You can still flashback your Cabal Therapy targeting the DSC in your hand, thus reshuffling it in your deck and gaining one more turn to deal with your opponent' s life.
9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Ichorid on: March 04, 2006, 05:52:00 am
I have quickly read this tread, but a few questions came to my mind:

-Why don't you play Hermit Druid ?
You can reach a T3 kill, You are less dependant to BoB (your opponent now need 2 pithing needle)
It has a nice synergie with Golgary Thug.
It is an other win condition that properly fit in that deck

- Breakthrough and Winds of tolaria are good cards in taht deck, but have you thought of:
Glimpse the Unthinkable, not before T2, but digs deeper.
Mulch, fills your graveyard and helps you to fix your mana base
Vision charm, fills your grave, can deal with Platz or DSC, can buy you a turn Vs drain.deck.
Entomb. I really can play without it, it brings a lot of versatility.
strategic planning. not that great, but still interesting to think about it.

-The disrupt:
How many are needed?
Therapy is a must have, but what about duress and Fiend ?
Most of the time, you need a disrupt in opening hand to have a chance to deal with your opponent, that is to say play +/- 8 of them. So, which one to choose?

Finally a deck list that managed to make top8 in a recent 80+ players tournament near Paris.
He lost in 1/2 against th Grim long player.
http://www.solomoxen.com/?page=7&id=60

1 Krovikan Horror
4 Bazaar of Baghdad
1 Darksteel Colossus
4 Ichoride
1 Mox Jet

1 Wonder
1 Careful Study
1 Putird Imp
1 Black Lotus
---------
3 Pithing Needle

The Zombi infestation and the Krovikan Horror proved to be not needed.
He reached again a top8 the following week in a smaller tournament.

I'd definetaly like to see some elaboration on what you expect from us.

The Goal of this topic was just to show you some decks that could fit in the current metagme.
I have used this pattern (some lists of very different decks and a short explanation) just to echo Smemmen's article on SCG.
I am not claiming that all of them could be tiers 1 in the US or elsewhere, but they are worthy of a short reading.

KI..TT
A specific topic has been launch on it, so I won't speek about it here.
See http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/index.php?topic=27005.0

Merchant.deck
7/10 is probably the best kill against control in that specific deck. Resolving an early tinker against a control deck just wins you the game. Even if your opponent manage to get ride of it, it will wreck your opponent's board and hand.
The strong point of that deck is that it can be faster than most gift.deck, and still be resistant to most hate (3 maindeck EE, 1 echoing truth + 3 merchant and 3 tutors, enforced by 4FoW, 4 drain and 4 duress).
A gift.deck resolving just an early tinker on DSC can look stupid, a merchant.deck resolving an early tinker on 7/10 will just win you the game.

B.F.M.
Quote
Cards like Top, LoA and the 2 tutors seem really slow and out of place in a tempo deck.
The fact is that it is less a tempo deck that other versions of fish. You can sometimes just play control with a top and a darkconfident.
Tutors allow you to find trall, time walk, a counter or a disrupt when needed, but also the 1of cards in your sideboard
Quote
Echoing Truth is also a card that hasn't appeared in many fish decks so far, what the reasoning behind it?
Playing Kataki is not enough to fight stacks, and it is also good against aggro or DSC.
There is also a trick with bouncing your own meddling mage (e.g. when your opponent is resolving Y's Will)
Quote
Also, where are the Null Rods or Chalice of the Voids? Not being able to stop broken artifact mana seems terrible.
Aether vial is needed in that deck so Null Rods is out, and CoTV is just weak compared to the rest of the deck.
Fish loses to broken plays, not to broken mana acceleration. This deck doesn't try to slow down your opponent, just to preventing him to go broken.
We have also tried to play stifle or mana leak in lieu of braintorm to develope the mana denial aspect of the deck. It was still strong but not what we needed for the metagame.
Quote
Oh, and 1 True Believer in the sideboard? Seems really random and unreliable to me.
BFM plays Top, fetch and tutors, often enough to find it when needed. we also needed more creature to strehghen the aggro matchup.

11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Decks] (French) Food for thought on: January 20, 2006, 04:28:43 pm
Lately on SCG, writers tried to give new techs to the vintage community.
The following lists made at least 2 top 8 in last year French tournaments.
These lists are not drafts, they have been tested for days and proved to be good enough to made Top8.
The Sideboard are given, even if not adapted to US metagame.
I hope that my 1st contribution to TMD will give ideas to the community.
If the moderators fell that the subjet need to be moved or divided, or the description of the deck more developed, feel free to do so.

5CC UBA Stacks deck

It has been developed a Few weeks before the CDF the 14/05/05 by members of the Menhir Team, Loic Cara and Laurent Cagnon.
It reached the 11th place, missing the top8 only to pairings.
Since then, it made top8 on numerous events and won a 60 player tournament last October in Paris.
Unlike the traditional version of UBA, it runs a 5cc mana base, which allow it to run bombs like balance or tinker.
The other part of the deck is now well known, so I won't emphasize on it.
You must notice that French metagame quite never sees a CS, it may explain the fact that only the 5CC really made results.

Merchant.deck

The next deck is far older (18 month now) but still makes results.
Merchant.deck has been developed by Team KI.
It focus on the now widely used Merchant Scroll.
Back then, Gift Ungiven has not been printed yet.
More than 50% of the kills are with the 7/10. This guy has multi time walks included against manadrains.decks.
A lot of tech are commun with Smemmen's Gift: The primary merchant's target is the Ancestral recall and can be used to find a bounce if need be.
But here the Merchant is also used to made the merchant -> mystical tutor -> tinker or Y's will tech.
The 4 duress, the 3 EE and the 2 pyroblasts (side) allow to play the control role in most of the cases.

Here are my result with it in Tournament:
Dragon: 10-6 (not a single match lost since the release of pithing needle, that is to say 2 rounds in tournament)
CS: 4-1 Not as good as the figure show, but still a good matchup.
Fish: 6-0 (UW fish the 3 times, 2Cotv and 1 null rod)
FCG: 4-1 the single lost was due to a mistake
T1T: 3-4
Gift.fr: 1-1
Stacks: 3-3
BoB control: 4-1. Needle.
CA: 0-2. no needle.
Combo: 4-0 (1 death Long, 1 rector tendril)
Oath: 2-0, after a lot of test with French vintage champion Ludovic Butros and the semi finaliste Arnaud Desbois, it is definitively a good matchup.

BFM (Black Fish Menhir)

The Next deck is a fish including Dak Confident and Dimir Cutpurse.
It was developped for a 40 peoples tournament in Rennes in 13/11/05 by the Menhir Team.
2 team mates reached the top8
Thanks to it, one of them splitting for a mox sapphire in final.
2 weeks later, it allowed once again 2 people to reach the top8 of a smaller tournament.
It is a 3cc fish featuring also cards like Top or Duress.
Since then, the Brainstroms have been removed for random slots like stifle or mana leak, according to the metagame.
