Plus it's gotta be fun as hell to sit down at your match and find out that your opponent's shitfaced.

Until he beats you.

Silly Revvik. What kind of Magic player would actually let an opponent who's that drunk beat them?? Oh wai-

Wink

It's ok. Apparently I actually play WAY better smashed out of my skull.

Clearly we need to make sure it's not that date then, since we will HAVE to get smashed and wreck face again. As for the fact that, drunk out of my mind, I should have been in t8, but the shittastic DCI software gayed the hell out of me, whatev. It would have been cool to play you for the Ruby while completely tanked.

Though I DID get 'talked to' about being so drunk. Apparently I'm loud or something? I just don't see it. I'm always that loud, trashed or not. I guess we'll just have to be a little more subtle next time.

Who talked to you?  Judge Dave?  If you're subtle next time, I won't go Razz  I wanna see you wearing DeMars' shit next time Smile

Yeah, it was Dave. Apparently he and Pammy were getting a little irritated with my/our blatant drunkenness. I mean like yeah, we're a bit loud and obnoxious, but I think it adds a lot of character to the tourney. Plus it's gotta be fun as hell to sit down at your match and find out that your opponent's shitfaced.

Droba-

Despite team Michigan's incessant need and desire to make fun of you as much as humanly possible, we do love ya man. You'll be missed.

@ Revvik: Pam said it will be on May 21 I believe. But I can't remember what she said it would be for. I'm sure, "no-show Demars", will post it soon. (j/k Brian)

If it's that weekend, I won't be able to make it for sure....

Franklin, I'm glad you decided to drag yourself out of your smoke-filled room to finally post the deck.

Quote
Library doesn't make the list because it doesn't help cast gifts ungiven, yawgmoth's will, flames fusillade etc.

While Library doesn't accelerate casting any of the above, it does produce mana, so technically it will help cast them. I still say Library is essential in winning the mirror. Although intelligent play and patience may make it unnecessary.

What is the average turn you go off with this version?
Is 2 Gifts Ungiven enough? Do you ever feel like anything else should be Gifts?
Seems like Null Rod + Chalice 0 would really hurt this deck. Although Kowal won w/o any main deck bounce in NY. Have you tested vs decks with Null Rod/ Needle?

I really like the Burning Wish plan. I imagine Echoing Ruin will be an auto-inclusion in the Board.

While LoA is indeed a house, it's just a bit ineffective in this deck. All VAG Gifts wants to do is combo out now, and it really wants the black mana to cast your tutors and Will, and eventually Tendrils. You want to kill so fast that the one or two cards that you might be able to draw off Library is completely moot. It's much more beneficial to drop a Sea/Volc/Island and cast busted blue spells, that will draw you far more cards.

2 Gifts is defeinetely sufficient. Generally, if you resolve it once, you win. There's not really a need to clutter the deck up with more Force of Will fodder.

While Null Rod and Chalice 0 aren't at all very friendly to the deck, there are plenty of ways around them. For one, the maindeck E.Truth + Rebuild are a little bit of a house, along with infy tutors to get them. B.Wish gets Echoing Ruin. If all else fails, there's still two 1 mana artifacts that can be Tinkered into a Fat Guy.

I'd think about dropping the Sea's down to 3 for a LOA.  I have never seen a Tendrils Casted off Lands unless it was mainboard you gifts for the will which involves Black lotus which gets you double black and grabbing Jet gives yo ua second black when needed.

It's not necessarily just the black mana that's important. It's the blue / getting to double blue. Colorless mana doesn't cast Recall or Mana Drain, and LoA can't be Gushed back to your hand. On top of that, you want to be playing your spells, not holding them all back in your hand to keep your LoA active.

On an unrelated note, I think we scared off the Colorado guys... I was really looking forward to out-partying them too... Oh well, I guess it's for the better. We wouldn't want to hurt em too bad  Wink

Anand, you totally need to come out to MI and get wrecked with me, Brian, and Franklin.

This is off topic, but I just wanted to make sure it was known...

The Vintage Avante Garde nor any other Vintage team will out smoke or out drink the Colorado Crew.  You may beat us at Magic.  You may fuck our mothers.  But you will not out party us.  And about the mother comment, I take that back, because I am pretty sure even our mothers will out party you!

On topic, this tournament sounded like it was a blast, and I really hope some of the CC can make the trek to Michigan to get down on some of this action.

Also, nice report Brian.

Lou- Let it be known that you and the rest of the Colorado crew are well-known around Michigan for your mad partying skills. But let it also be known that this is just WHAT WE DO. Consider this an official challenge from Brian, Josh F, and myself. Drag your crew out to one of our tournies, and we will not only out party you the night before, then wreak havoc at the tourney, but if you're still alive after all of that, we'll get hammered the next night in celebration of our victory.

And if Demars breaks out his scarf, you'd better hide your mothers/sisters/girlfriends/wives. That man can talk the pants off any woman.

edit: Brian, much drinks and smokes tonight. I'll be down that way sometime after work. I have to stop and bring Pam some "supplies" too.

So I figured that now was as good a time as any to make my official TMD debut (Yes, this means you should all be cowering in fear at the smart-assness that will soon be running rampant. Oh wait- you already have to deal with Brian). Anyways, this was definitely the best RIW tourney to date, so many savage matches and shit-tons of fun. Let's keep Michigan the heart of the Vintage metagame.

So yeah, some comments:

Brian: You actually are the funniest person that I've ever known. Let's go drink tonight! Bring the Penguins.

Rev: Congrats man! Though it was really odd watching you attack with something other than a 1/2 basketball with teeth.

Fisholo: You shoulda just stuck with Fish; who wants to play with good cards anyways.

And this is officially an open invite to, well, all of Canada I suppose. Josh Franklin's house. The night before the next tourney (or really ANY night for that matter). I'll bring the smoke; you bring some beer from the motherland. We'll get hammered, playtest, and play mental magic till 6 in the morning, then go wreck-face playing cards. How we lose?
