1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Does Grim Long lose to Leyline? on: June 26, 2006, 03:11:40 pm
Like someone said earlier, Leyline alone wont do it. But if you add in cards such as Chalice for 0, it would make it almost impossible for grimlong to win fast enough  before you win/solidify your board&hand. They wont have access to Ritual will mana and artifact mana. Thats why i believe Smen's new Ichorid is so strong against grim long. And those are just maindeck hate for combo.

like i pointed out already, yspuhyren's win from stax comes for artifact activations. He RELIES on it. Null rod does nothing against either deck with a decent player now.

The only question i have in my mind, is whether to run 3 grim tutors, or 4. Personally, in testing, ive found that its NEVER bad to have 2 grim tutor's in your hand. At best, it cantrips for lotus, which in turn, nets you 3 extra mana and 2 storm after will. Or, if you fizzle and need a reset, probally be better to have 2 tutors then a single. Dont know though, everyone keeps trying to shy me away from it.

IT's mana base is alot stronger then grimlongs.

Actually, being a grim player myself, ive come to relize that null rod is more of a HELP to you then a hinderance. Decks evolve around the use of cards. How does Combo  beat stax? Rebuild/hurkyls EOT. How does Null Rod affect this at all? Also, it stops them from capping you ( big plus ) or crypting you. Id almost go as far as to say you should SB them yourself in grim.

Also, piledriver is most certainly pro blue.
5  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: About Bob and Gifts on: March 27, 2006, 03:54:04 am
Most of the arguements about bob are made based on turn 1 drops. I doubt id want to drop him turn 3 against any deck in the format. For the most part i will go ahead and say that bob and mana drain are pretty much autoexclude. This is why confidant control instead plays Mana Leak. Its very easy to get 1U open, even first turn. The gifts structure is also at a higher curve then most decks running bob. They live off mana drain. And the fact that your more often then not taking 3-4 damage for a card is brutal.

Just think about it. What decks would you want to drop Confidant turn 3. And Confidant on turn 1 in gifts isnt a viable option.

Heiner, FOW is not the most agressive disruption. Infact, ill almost argue that its the LEAST agressive. Any disruption that is 2 for 1 is bad. While ill agree, its free, and allows you to counter bombs first turn on the draw, or when you attempt to go off, its not nearly as good as Duress in a deck such as this. 1 for 1, thats easy to get off mid combo, and also, is black, and doesnt require you to run excess blue cards. Pitching a BS  to a fow can set you back a turn fairly easily. your litz long build, gets wrecked by 1 extract. Your only alt win condition is a sundering titan post board, which is more then easily dealt with.

The versitility added by intuition is amazing. In my testing however, ive found that ive almost always wanted a tutor in the 3rd Intuition spot, since i was more often then not, casting it to nab 2x grim 1x demonic. So im at 2 intuitions now. Remand has alot of versitility as well. Being able to remand a drain target, or even, like someone mentioned, remand a tendrils to recast. 2 mana often wont matter the turn you need to go off, unlike litz long, this deck generally has 3 or so mana left in pool when going off. Also, cantrip = good.

Tormod's Crypt is INFINITLY better then Leyline in this deck. First, like stated, you have to mulligan into one. Second, if you do manage to start the game with one in play, chances are any player worth his keep will just forfeit the 10 or 5 life or whatever it is. The best way to abuse this card, is like your trying to do, remove there cards from the game. However, if they KNOW its coming, they will just forfeit. This does a few things, allows you to keep a hand without tormod's crypt and draw into it or tutor for it. Or, wait a few turns till you can nab cards from there hand and crpyt them out. Either way, in any tourny worth going to, people will know what your doing before the T8 ( if you make it ). Which means, your stratagy is flawed.

Also like stated, Just run W/R, Fast beats, burn, end the game quickly. If they try to fight you in subgame, cudos to them, they just lost there graveyard.

Game 3: This was one of the most fun games of Magic I have ever played.  By this point, my judgement was seriously lacking, and my brain was pretty much fried.  I am on the draw and I open with a hand of Lotus Petal, Mystical Tutor, Ray of Revelation, City of Brass, Demonic Tutor, and Cabal Ritual.  Scott takes his turn, setting him up for a turn 2 win.  He passes, and I draw... Dark Ritual.  That's what I'm talking about.  I drop the Lotus Petal, pop it for black, cast the Dark Ritual and the Cabal Ritual, Demonic Tutor for Yawgmoth's Will, do it all again, Tutor up the Tendrils, and that is GG.  I know it wasn't an extremely difficult turn 1 win, but I have never beat Scott, and we were just having a lot of fun at that point.  I was stoked, even if I can't fully express that here in this report.
Record: 4-1-1

Wondering how that play wins. Lotus petal, sac, ( 1 b ), Dark Ritual ( 3 b ) cabal ritual ( 4 b ), D Tutor ( 2 b ), You get will, you cant cast it. You drop city at best, cast will, replay lotus petal, sac, ( 1 b ), Dark Ritual ( 3 b ) Cabal ritual ( 4 b ), D tutor ( 2 b ), no way of casting Tendrills.
