Congratulations Brian and Matt!
The success you guys share is much deserved, and couldn't happen to nicer people!
I would love to see the list's and read a report soon.

Awesome, very excited for this!

@Calvin240sx: will there be Legacy or something else on Saturday 10/24, or is the Sunday 10/25 Vintage going to be the only event?

Check http://eemagic.com/
Not a lot of info, but hope this helps.

Prospero, can you give us a list of the top 8 contenders?
Just got home to tune in!
Thanks.

Any thoughts on awarding a prize to the player that finishes highest with a non powered list? If so, I'm sure I can drag a few scrubs to the event.

I just happen to have this weekend off, so there's a good chance I will be showing up with a few friends who love to donate money to the cause!  Wink
BTW, we had a great time at the legacy event last week! Thanks for hosting such great events!

6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: So apparently some people think I'm a cheat? This is a joke right? on: February 01, 2015, 04:08:02 pm
I was also very surprised to see the list of names that came up in the previous thread.
I have played against all of these players multiple times, and never once heard a single person use a discouraging word to describe any of them.
Brian, Matt and Justin in particular are the types of opponents that keep a scrub like me coming back for more! On more than one occasion all of these players have pointed out mistakes I have made during a match and allowed me the chance to correct the play, thus winning a game when I shouldn't have. It's players like these that truly represent what the Vintage community is about.

Ill be bringing 3 from the Lancaster area.
I would also like to know if the side events will be Vintage or Legacy?
Hope to see a lot of the regulars Saturday!

Had a great time as always yesterday playing the greatest format MTG has to offer!
I was on Shops, which I have very little experience with. I really wanted to thank all of my opponents for taking the time to talk  after each match about the correct plays to make and how to side board against their deck types.
Huge props to Nick D for hooking me up with a card for a last minute deck change, and of course Calvin for making this all happen!

9  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: TO Report: The Players Guild 09/06/14 on: September 13, 2014, 10:01:49 pm
Wow.....This report's been up for almost 3 hours now, and Gottschall hasn't posted within 30 seconds of it going up? Weird.....

Anyways, big ups to those who Top 8'ed today! Especially Keith Seals, because Keith Seals is da sexiest mo-fo in Vintage.

First of all Chris, my last name is Gottshall. I will say I had fun despite my piss poor performance.
Here is a mini report of my day:

First, the list:

4 Cavern of Soul

2 Gaea's Cradle

5 Snow-Covered Forest

Black Lotus
Mox Emrald

4 Elvish Spirit Guide

1 Dryad Arbor

3 Llanowar Elves

4 Fyndhorn Elves

4 Elvish Mystic

4 Nettle Sentinel

4 Heritage Druid

4 Wirewood Symbiote

1 Priest of Titania

4 Elvish Visionary

4 Wirewood Hivemaster

1 Reclamation Sage

1 Craterhoof Behemoth

4 Green Sun's Zenith

4 Skullclamp

Sideboard:

4 Grafdigger's Cage

4 Deglamer

3 Reclamation Sage

2 Ravenous Trap

1 Gaea's Herald

1 Ezuri, Renegade Leader

Round 1 Unpowered UR Delver

Game 1 I crush him pretty hard
Game 2 he has turn one Delver turn 2 Delver turn 3 Delver and a Bolt.
Game 3 I had the game but he naturally draws his one of Engineered Explosives that he boarded in and blows me out.
0-1

Round 2 Gush Storm

Game 1 he combos turn two.
Game 2 we go back and forth for a while with tokens via my hivemaster and his pyromancer, but he eventually just goes nuts with Yawg Will.
0-2

Round 3 BWg Pox
Game 1 I empty my hand turn two thanks to top decking lotus after he duresses and sees all dudes, making his liliana really bad. I hardcast Craterhoof about turn 4.
Game 2 is fairly easy as I assemble the turn 3 win and take a ten or so minute turn.
1-2

Round 4 URG Landstill
Game one I thought I was fair off until I see my opponent drop Huntmaster of the Fells and I get wrecked.
Game 2 I have Ezuri to answer his EE. He only plays colorless lands and I win easily shortly after.
Game 3 I get wrecked hard because he assembles Life from the Loam with Strip Mine as well as Academy Ruins and EE... Sad Panda.
1-3

Round 5 against Magus Top Helm of Awakening Combo

Game 1 I win fairly quickly as he drew no business.
Game 2 he counted to ten and asked if we could go to game 3 after showing me tendrils.
Game 3 he assembled Magus, Top and Helm, draws his deck, makes near infinite storm, and tendrils.
1-4

So from what I see, I shouldn't have lost the Delver match, my opponent even said that. Other than that it just seemed like I played against Tendrils too much which I can't really do anything against. All in all I had fun though so that's all that matters.

People may think it's stupid to play a deck that they aren't used to seeing, when I say who are you to judge what I do? I may not win all the time, but I have fun playing what I play. It may appear to not feel very Vintage, but in fact this deck plays similarly to the storm decks you see, if you don't believe me proxy it up and test it for yourself.

On a different note, thank you Shawn for a great event. Congrats to Brian, Joe, Keith, Dom and the rest of the Top!

Also a thank you to Mickey Mahr for allowing me to test my deck against Workshops after the Swiss. The testing was proving my point that I in fact do not have a problem beating Workshops. The deck loses to the same hands any deck loses to, but it can out attrition Workshops fairly easily as Mickey soon found out.

Sorry for the late reply to this report.
I was the lucky guy in match one who happened to top deck the EE at just the right moment. It was almost a shame, I really wanted Elves to do well in Vintage.
This was my first trip to The Players Guild, and it was well worth the 2 hour drive!
I played an unpowered U/R Delver deck with no intention of doing well, just wanted the practice of playing unpowered against full on powered decks in preparation of playing at Worlds in October. My day consisted of 1 win and 4 loses, but it was a great time scrubbing out!
The absolute highlight of the day for me, was my son making the top 8 playing my MUD deck. This was his first top 8 in Vintage, and I couldn’t be happier for him!
Thanks to all of my opponents for being an outright delight to play this silly game with!

This is all because the website isn't up yet, but I've been told you can contact Daniel Chang at: daniel.vintagemagic@yahoo.com

He should send you whichever report you are requesting ASAP

Is there any reason you cant just post the full report here, instead of having to email people and sign up for other sites? I would love to read the report, but not if I need to jump through a bunch of hoops...
Thanks if you can make that happen.

11  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Dragon Oath on: September 13, 2014, 09:44:12 pm
Two suggestions, add a 4th Orchard, and you need Misdirection in the mainboard.
Dragon Oath is one of my favourite decks to play with cardboard, but it seems to crumple under the new Oath decks, and most other control decks. I would love to hear how it does in MTGO.
Good luck, Kevin
12  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: Tales of Adventure Eternal Extravaganza Weekend on: August 03, 2014, 06:32:46 pm
I think there were 67 people playing Vintage. I had an awful tournament, went 1 and 5 before dropping. GG Oath just doesn't seem to have the same reach it used to. Never the less I had a great time with great people in the Vintage community!
A big thanks to Calvin and anyone else involved in planning these events!

AJ
Great job last weekend.
Oddly enough I saw your deck list after you played to a win at MVPLS, and decided to give it a try myself. I copied the same 60, minus the Goyf's. In there place I played Snapcaster, and Trygon Predator. Needless to say I did not have the same luck. I Went 0-4 drop at the Harrisburg PA event.
The deck was a ton of fun to play, and I would love to see you start a primer to see better choices.
Thanks, Kevin

Live Legacy coverage is on right now. I love technology!

Will there be any streaming live coverage of the Legacy, or vintage matches?

I was not there and can not add a lot to what has been said, but I will say this.
Given the choice of actual store credit, or picks from Calvin's collection, you go with Calvin 100% of the time. MVP is a great store if you need Standard cards, but Calvin's collection is by far the greatest collection of Legacy to Vintage cards I have ever seen amassed! Need Beta power, yeah he's got it, need 40 Scalding Tarns, yup, got that also!
See you all on the 26th in Harrisburg!

What is the date for the event at the Adventure's Guild? It doesn't look like I will make the MVP event on the 14th. Damn work for getting in the way of gaming!

21  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: MVPLS Vintage event 9-14-13 on: September 06, 2013, 06:52:28 pm
I have played in 4 of Calvin's vintage tournaments thus far, and have only made top 8 one time. This being said, I would have played everyone of those tournaments with 0 prize pay out.
Where else can I play against former world champs, and deck designers like Brian Noble?
Sitting down against some one flopping down Beta Moxen and so forth never ceases to thrill me!
Thanks for having a place to play against the worlds best!
