1  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: MTGO Power Nine Challenge - Saturday, December 26th on: December 26, 2015, 09:37:59 pm
So I woke up at 5:45am and joined in for my very 1st online tourney ever (because they are always crap time for Australia)!

I finished 22nd @ 4-3 with a funky PW control featuring {W} instead of the {B} package (typically loaded with haymakers such as: Thief, Deluge, Dismember, DT, VT, YWill, Vault/Key....)

Neat deck. I'm just wondering if Supreme Verdict isn't superior to Terminus in this deck, since I feel like uncounterability and pitching to FoW in irrelevant MUs outweighs the chances to miracle it every now and then (1 Top, BS, Recall). Am I missing anything here?
2  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: First time playing paper Vintage! on: November 02, 2015, 02:04:01 pm
Hi,

I played in the same tournament (also on URw Delver), was first after the swiss rounds and finished 3rd after losing in the semis to your finals oponent.

So I agree that URw Delver was a very good choice for the tournament.  Very Happy

Congratz on your finish, and next time I'll try to say hi if I remember to.

Yes, the Standard and Vintage Main events took place on Friday, Saturday was Legacy, Sunday was Modern.
4  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: MagicCardMarket Series - Prague - October 18, 2015 on: October 19, 2015, 04:55:12 pm
I was there and played both the main event on Friday (3:3) as well as the Trial on Sunday (for byes for the next Mainevent - losing in Top 4 after being first after the swiss rounds with 4:1), both events on URw Delver.

From scouting the field between rounds both days, it seemed to me that at least 50% of the field were either a Gush Variant (either Delver or Mentor based) or a 4 Tfk deck, mostly in Grixis shells. On Friday I saw some workshops, on Sunday there was only 1 Workshop Deck (my only loss in the swiss rounds).

Little Oath, close to no Dredge, little Bomberman, some Doomsday, close to no TPS, but at least one Belcher.

Sweet. Thank you! I might have to give this one a run as I recently played with Cobra in a Gifts/Gush shell and really enjoyed the snake.

Congratz on your finish, do you think you can get the Mentor/Lotus Cobra/Soulfire Grand Master Control list somehow?
7  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Unusual but correct plays on: February 13, 2015, 03:17:46 pm
Not Vintage, but Legacy, hope it still counts.

MU is UWr Punishing Fire Homebrew (Me) vs Elves. I'm at one life with nothing in play and him attacking with 2 creatures. I play Punishing Fire targeting the first creature, counterspell my punishing fire, then swan song my counterspell. So I get a Swan token, the fire resolves and grills his first critter, the Swan eats his second critter. Ragequit incoming.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / MKM European tournament series on: February 10, 2015, 12:52:25 pm
I'm not sure it concerns all that many people posting and reading here, but since Vintage is also involved I wanted to briefly mention it here.

In 2015 MKM (magiccardmarket) is starting a new tournament series, featuring 6 tournaments in 6 different European cities. The cool thing about this is that Vintage has the same price pool as the other formats. Anyone planning on attending?

9  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Article] A Vintage Experience At Prague Eternal on: January 23, 2015, 01:49:49 pm
I have to echo the sentiments that Prague Eternal was an absolute blast. It was my only 2 Vintage tournaments ever, and despite doing really horribly, I really enjoyed the experience, never ever before have I been at a tournament with so many cool opponents, so if you live within reasonable distance I'd strongly recommend going there.

Also, it was really funny to see Philipp become more excited after each round of Vintage as we were exchange our stories from last round.

Can't wait for my first 2 Vintage events - recently bought into the format. Looking forward to meet some TMDers in Prague  Very Happy

Are the Legacy results/decklists posted anywhere? Can't seem to find anything, even on the cardtitan website.
They are doing the top 8 tomorrow, as far as I remember it's 6 Delver lists, a Maverick deck, and a UB Helm-Tezz deck.

The last round was a lot of fun to watch, the UB Tezz player was super frazzled and made a lot of weird mistakes, including untapping the opponent's Delver on his own untap phase.

It's always funny to see the differences between European and American Legacy metagames. The last big Legacy tournament in Europe (Ovino, 450 players roughly) we had a 75 card Miracle Mirror, with the top 16 being basically Miracles, Deathblade and 2 or 3 combo decks, and now this with pretty much all Delver.......

@Tom/Samoht: How happy were you with the deck's perfomance (obviously not too unhappy with T4), would you change anything?
13  Vintage Community Discussion / Type 4 / Re: Type 4 Stack Lists and Resources on: September 05, 2014, 04:13:29 am
Sorry for this necro,

since I've been now on sick leave for more than 2 weeks, I've had plenty of times to read into all kind of different variant formats, and I wondered why nobody has posted their stack or updates since ages?

I've taken plenty of stuff (which just looked cool or over the top) out of my junk/trade binders and wondered what people currently had in their stacks.

15  Vintage Community Discussion / Community Introductions / Re: Vintage in Austria (Linz) on: May 20, 2014, 09:32:48 am
Hallo Michael,

great to see another Vintage fan from my country.

It is true that there has been a lack of Vintage tournaments in recent years, but in March the first Vintage Proxy tournament in Vienna fired (12 participants) and the next one is scheduled for June. Good to hear you're trying to start something similar in Linz.

While I can't guarantee I will ever make it to a tournament in Linz (I even fail to attend many in Vienna for time reasons), I will try to do so if ever a place in a car from Vienna opens up. I will spread the word among possibly interested players in Vienna for sure, as I'm well known by the eternal players there.

Also, make sure you join the "Eternal Österreich" group on Facebook (if you haven't already), I'm positive you reach a lot of possibly interested players there.

Hope we run into each other one day slinging Power (even though it might be proxied) Wink

BR,
Choke/Philipp Socher
16  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: My "magic backpack" on: May 07, 2014, 09:30:17 am
I don't have a magic packback for tournaments. For tournaments I usually bring my deck, at maximum another deck or a few cards I'm lending out and accessoires like playmat, dice, as well as a book for the train ride. I can't be bothered to even bring my tradebinder anymore, since I'd rather buy and sell via Magiccardmarket. At tournaments I'd rather spend my time hanging out with other players and watch games than deal with sharks and #mtgfinance people.

If I meet with my local casual group, well, then it's a backpack stuffed with 5-6 60 card fun decks, sometimes highlander decks as well as legacy decks for playtesting as well as my trade/salesbinder, but at those occasions there are only people around I trust.
17  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Help me pick a deck for my first vintage tournament on: March 31, 2014, 11:21:17 am
Dear all,

many thanks for the constructive input. So the first vintage tournament really did fire, but unfortunately I was not able to attend because of my brother's birthday.

The good news is that 10 people showed up, which may not sound much to you, but is impressive to me since:

a) Legacy events in that store usually don't draw many more people.
b) for the last vintage event 2 people showed up

So, while I haven't had a chance yet to talk to many people who played there, one friend said he really enjoyed it even though he just went 1-3. Meta was like 1 Dredge, 1 RUG Delver,  1 MUD, 1 Storm (I assume he meant TPS or Long) and 5 controllish blue decks with one unknown.

Once again, thanks for the impressive input.
18  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Help me pick a deck for my first vintage tournament on: February 26, 2014, 03:03:43 pm
Hi everyone,

I need your advice: I've got my first vintage tournament coming up in roughly a month, and I have no clue on what to play - 15 proxies are allowed and since I own every Legacy relevant card and some Vintage staples from EDH I should be able to build anything.

Some things I'd rather not play: Dredge, Shops, anything that is just "powered-up" Legacy, e.g. Hatebears, BUG Fish, RUG Delver (not sure if this even falls in this category). Things I might enjoy: Something blueish interactive, anything with Gifts Ungiven (I'm brewing Legacy decks with it all the time) in it or something in the vein of Brian Kelly's Humanstorm (I enjoyed the deck a lot on cockatrice) - feel free to suggest something to me Smile

As for the expected meta: No clue, since it's the first Vintage tournament here in years. If I had to extrapolate from Legacy, I'd have to expect a very blue meta (e.g. I won a GPT for Paris, and in 8 rounds I faced 3 Esperblade, 3 UWr Miracles, 1 RUG Delver, 1 Omnishow - just that you have an idea how blue our Legacymeta is) - so anything that is well suited to battle blue decks is a plus.

Many thanks for all the input!
Philipp
19  Vintage Community Discussion / Community Introductions / Re: Introduce Yourself on: February 26, 2014, 02:54:40 pm
Hi everyone,

my name is Philipp, I'm 28 and from Austria. I'm currently working in the financial sector.

My magical career started somewhere during the Tempest Block, but I first quit at the end of Urza Block. I picked up the game again in 2008 and played my first tournament (Legacy) in the beginning of 2010. I have basically a complete cardpool for Legacy and play whatever I'm in the mood for, lately it's been Lands, Miracles and Gifts Ungiven brews.

I also play lots of FFA multiplayer with my friends. Other than playing Magic I'm into indoors soccer, reading and partying.

You're asking why I ended up here even though I'm a Legacy guy? Well, I've been lurking for some time now and playing Vintage on Cockatrice every now and then, and since some guys are trying to reestablish Vintage in Vienna via proxy tournamets (first one firing in March) I figured it was time to register here.

Looking forward to discussing decks and strategies with you guys and sorry for any grammar/spelling errors since English is not my first language.

Regards,
Philipp/Choke
