1  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: MTGO Vintage Power Nine (?) Tournament - 10/24 on: October 20, 2015, 03:52:05 am
Unpopular opinion time, maybe?

This isn't paper Magic. I want people playing Vintage and general Magic as much as possible, and overpricing staples of the format online is pointless, and just stops events firing. What needs to happen, is MTGO needs to have some kind of cash or tickets prize system.

It's the first one of an old format, so Ancestral is the obvious one, right?

I think this is really good, and the Power is not inconsequential. I own no Power, I'm going to be playing Dredge for a while. Get me a Lotus and I'm one step closer to playing Doomsday. (And in turn losing a lot of tickets.)

I was always a champion of banning Golem

translation:  Ban everything I'm not playing in my 75, unless it's blue, because we need diversity in the blue decks.

So my suggestion of banning a card from a specific deck over the card they banned was more extreme than them actually doing it, even though Golem makes my Ancestral cost 2, and Chalice makes it uncastable? Excellent analysis, friend.

I didn't really understand nedleeds' post entirely, but I think the general idea was "Stop being pissy and play Disenchant", which I totally agree with. Every deck has answers to every other deck if you're willing to play them, and if you're complaining that the field is 66% of a deck, then you should stop telling everyone so you can crush the tournament.

I mean, it's not even like people are hateful of doing that. Red Elemental Blast is in main decks, and that only hits Blue and is 90% dead against Dredge and Shops.

Cheers. I missed that when I was reading it. I thought it was a massive step down in the finals. (I mean, it still is, but not quite as much.)

I'm, sadly, unable to attend, as I'm playing in an IRL event (which I have linked to elsewhere on the forum), but good luck to everyone, and I hope to make the one next month.

Bump for justice

Tl;dr: It's a 25tx/250PP event on the fourth Saturday each month, starting next week.

1st: Lotus, Twister, full BFZ, full foil Bfz, 500PP
2nd: Recall, full BFZ, 400PP
3rd: Sapphire, 300PP
4th: Ruby, 250PP
5th: Jet, 250PP
6th: Pearl, 250PP
7th: Emerald, 250PP
8th: Walk, 250PP
9-16th: 250PP

11AM Pacific (-7 UTC)
33-player Minimum

Daily Event will still be live, so if it doesn't fire you still have an event to play.

The article usually goes out Tuesday, so I imagine they just said 19th instead of 20th.

EDIT:

When asked on Tumblr: "It will be up on MTGO.com this morning! I will post once it’s up both here and on twitter."
7  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / The actual effect of Restricting Chalice on: October 19, 2015, 11:26:55 am
So I just wanted to get some feedback on how people think the Chalice restriction is actually going to affect the game.

From what I can tell, Workshop is still a deck (not that I expected it to just die or anything) and it's still doing well. It dropped off a little (maybe due to the ban?) and has come back absolutely storming. Thirst decks are hugely popular, but I'm not certain how much of this is Thirst being as good as it might seem, and how much of it is people like to play anything that says "Draw 3" on it. I have a feeling it's the latter, but I am more than prepared to be wrong, as the Gifts unbanning did next to nothing, and people (ie. I) love that card.

If what I am suggesting is correct, and Shops is just as good as before, and is going to retake its place as the best deck in the format (which I firmly believe it was) then what has to happen? When these discussions were happening, I was always a champion of banning Golem. A Sphere and a threat all in one seems way better than yet another lock piece. (Albeit one that acts on a different axis.)

If you disagree, why?

9  Vintage Community Discussion / Community Introductions / Re: Introduce Yourself on: July 14, 2014, 10:43:24 am
I'm Josef, or Jo. I'm 24, from Manchester, England, and I've been playing since M12 Game Day. The first thing I ever really did was Rune-Scarred Demon for a Grave Titan in UB Control, and ever since then I've been addicted to doing completely degenerate things that are similar to how that felt when we were playing with intro decks and about five extra cards. I quickly became addicted to playing control, nearly T8ing a PTQ with Tamiyo/Gideon doing the dirty on my opponents in Scars/Inn Standard. (I forgot to put a land into play on turn six with a Terminus in hand. I will remember that until the day I die.) I quickly got into Modern, playing UW Control there, and eventually got myself some Sensei's Divining Tops and started forcing tournaments to go on for a good extra half hour than they should. Eventually I learned what I was doing, and bought myself a Gush and Merchant Scroll. And so begins the slippery slope into debt. I posted on The Source for some time, and was informed of TMD by a friend who plays Vintage (or at least, wishes he had someone to play it with) and quickly started getting into ruining everyone else's fun with Mana Drains and Mental Misstep. I currently own zero power, and zero of anything close to power, but once I've finished up my Legacy collection, I'll be looking at buying into some of this stuff. Until then it's proxies, sadly, but even this Plains with some Sharpie on it can draw me three cards...
10  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: Magic Online Vintage Premiere Event, July 13th (Possibly First Ever!) on: July 14, 2014, 10:24:46 am
Hey, peoples! This is my first post (I believe) so forgive me if I missed something obvious, but I've seen a few people saying they streamed the event, and what with it starting at around one or two in the morning over here in England, I was wondering if anyone had a link to either their stream from last night (yesterday? Whatever) or a video uploaded somewhere of their event. Preferably something like Pyro/Gush, or a hardcore combo deck. I did see someone battling with UR Landstill, but then I noticed it was 2:30, and I've no idea who it was. Thanks!
