1  Vintage Community Discussion / Community Introductions / Hello, It has been a long time. on: March 14, 2014, 08:27:06 am
I would start off by saying, "I'm back" but it's been so long I can't imagine most people would know me at all.  I would have come in and introduced myself in the appropriate thread, but for some reason my filters are locking it.

My name is Matthew Smith and I'm glad to be back on the message boards again. I have been away from the game since 2003. I played in, and won, the first of the vintage championships when they were held in Origins (2001) and and went top 4 in the Gencon official WC thereafter (2002)(losing to Pat Chapin with the first edition of Gro-a-Tog). I wrote for a website called CCGprime, then Cardshark, and eventually had a few articles on SCG.

Last night I was chatting with Stephen M, and he threw some HW my way. I have to say, wow! A lot has changed in the time I was gone--but a lot has stayed the same as well.

With that being said, I'm very glad this site still exists. It has been the Paragon of the vintage community for a long time and for good reason. (remember that term?)  I hope to bring Vintage magic to my neck of the woods, and eventually get the cards I had back and begin traveling and playing competitive Vintage magic again.  Thanks for having me.

Well said. I think every MtG community, not just the vintage, could stand to learn from these lessons. I especially like how you ended with the Ghandi/Obama quote. You should write more often; you have a powerful voice.
