This looks like it has the most potential for Vintage play than any other card in the set imo. I could see some kind of all-in deck with all the moxes and chocked full of instants to get max value out of this guy's draw engine. Certainly worth trying!

I've never quite understood the hating this deck or that deck in Vintage. I'm in the format because I *ENJOY* seeing the absolute power limits of the game - not to bitch about them. This attitude makes sense in Standard since its supposed to be a "balanced" format - but Vintage is quite a ways off Standard...

Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Merfolk

I played Merfolk locally recently (a list pretty close to the Champs winning list from a few years back) just to get a feel for the deck and I got pummeled. The Null Rods helped G1 vs Storm but G2/3 were bad losses (cheap artifact removal from the board plus main deck defense grids did me in as i got TEN DRILLED for bunches). Shops match up was even worse (hit two of those that night). Resisters just slow you down way too much and getting 3 balled with no FOW = GG. Final game was against a Mentor build that just basically "stormed on board", quickly having superior board presence.
Hopefully you have better results with your AEther Vial build - best of luck!

My point regarding MM is more that I would think your opponent would just Mental Misstep the Cabal Therapy if they had it. Maybe this is a mind game that some player play that I am unaware of, but I would think that most of the time if your opponent has a Mental Misstep to answer a Cabal Therapy, they'd fire it off just to go one-for-one and keep you off knowing the contents of their hand...

I really like the videos! One thing I'd say is that naming Mental Misstep with a blind Cabal Therapy seems like a so-so play to me. IMO if they had the Mental Misstep in hand, they would likely just MM the Therapy right away, without allowing you any informational advantage.

The last time I played Standard was when the original Zendikar was out. I was cracking packs trying to get a set of all the new fetch lands for Vintage. Since I had the cards from cracking packs, I played a red/white aggro deck until it rotated out. Even though I'm not much of a fan of Standard, it was really fun that lightning bolt was legal in Standard at the time. That was a nice touch of nostalgia for me. Since they did this with Lightning Bolt, I always thought there might be a time where they would do the same and bring back Counterspell for a season. Now that Modern is a thing though, I doubt they ever end up doing that.
I guess it is supposed to be the star power that makes it "super". That adds something sure, but it's far less of a draw than the format for me personally.

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Accidental Card Revealed During Shuffling/Cutting
|
on: October 30, 2015, 01:26:24 pm

So this happened when I was playing a casual game so it really ended up not being a big deal but it made me wonder. What would happen in a tournament setting if, during the process of shuffling and cutting, a card or cards were accidentally revealed that would result in the opponent getting information (ie - color(s), decktype, etc) about your deck before the game actually began. Is there a floor rule on how to handle this situation?
