2  Eternal Formats / Midwest U.S. / Mtg Card Market's Vintage tournament, Chicago, IL May 10th on: April 12, 2015, 08:18:22 pm
While I have introduced myself in the Introductions thread, I am thrilled for my first substantive post to be about Vintage in Chicago! With the help of the folks at MtgCardMarket there will be a Vintage tournament on Sunday, May 10th, 2015. I have been in contact with Card Market about working out a day and time not to either compete with other Magic events throughout the city as well as space this event out from the Vintage Monthly held north of town (which has also been firing!). MtgCardMarket has a large space to play Vintage and the staff are excited to help bring this Eternal format back to the Windy city.

The details!

Where:Vintage Tournament @ MtgCardMarket
1051 W Belmont Ave
Chicago, IL 60657
773-697-7238
http://www.mtgcardmarket.com/

Entry: $25

Prizes: Store credit will be awarded to the top 4 players, and prizes will be increased depending on attendance. Prize structure may change for future events to better meet player attendance.

WhenSunday, May 10th, 1pm Start.
The store opens at 12 p.m. (noon) cst. Deck registration might occur so we can catalog this event on the internet so please arrive before 1pm or have your list typed up if possible!

Proxies: 25 proxies will be allowed for this event. This number will most likely decrease down to 15 for future events but in the spirit of something new, 25 it is!
Standard guidelines for proxies apply. That means:

1. Taking a basic land card and writing, with a Sharpie, the details of the card on it. (e.g., an Island to proxy Mox Sapphire, a Mountain to proxy Mox Ruby, use different lands/land art!)
OR
2. Taking a card with similar characteristics of what your proxy will be and erasing and replacing the characteristics that do not match.
OR
Putting a print out copy of the cards into each sleeve. If you choose to do this, every card in your 75 (or 76, or 265) must be proxied in this way.

Whichever way is used, and to quote Prospero, " Your opponents should know at all times what your proxies are, as they should be clearly defined...Your opponents should not ever be at a disadvantage because you don't own the cards."

Hello TMD!

My name is Andrew and I recently came back to the game roughly 6 months ago. I don't remember the year but I remember my friend next door bringing over this long box of cards and  we played and I was hooked. I traded a Beanie Baby for everything in the box and would plead my mom to get an Ice Age pack when I tagged along grocery shopping. That was my introduction to the game. I stopped playing around Lorwyn-Innistrad. I came to Chicago a number of years ago to begin my doctoral studies. I play Lands and Enchantress in legacy and have joined with Mark and others to stream Legacy and now Modern on the WUBRG.xyz twitch stream. I hope we can branch out into covering vintage as the scene picks up more. My time lurking on this site and has given me the bug to play shops as I do love grindy prison/control strategies. I have been privileged to learn about Vintage from wonderful TMD folks like strip miner and Jaco and I look forward to learning more about the format here!
