DiJohn played shops, right? And I played another guy on shops in round 1, he was fairly new to the format.

I played James Saltsman this week. He was on Terra Nova (I'm assuming), I'm on Thanks For Playing Artifacts.dec

Game one he gets a solid start with some Thorns and Revoker on Time Vault (which I have in play). I have a Welder but haven't found anything to Weld on either side. I steal his Revoker with Dack, he copies Revoker naming Dack, has a couple more lock pieces and finds a Golem. I'm eventually able to get a revoker into his graveyard to take care of the Null Rod in play, which gives me the mana I need to Hurkyl's him. Put the game away shortly after, tutoring for Key and Welding the Vault back in.

Game two we both mulligan, he has a mana light hand (wasteland and Factory) and a Chalice on 0. I have a turn 1 Welder. I Chewer his Chalice, he attacks with Factory, I weld the Chalice back into play, cast a vault and tutor up key for the win.

Not a great matchup for James, 4 maindeck welders and Dacks makes life difficult for a workshop, but good games regardless!

2-0 Me.

Won against Wappla in 3 games. Game one he had turn 1 Library, I never found a way to deal with it and lost pretty convincingly to Jace etc. (I actually lost my internet connection, it was as if Comcast was telling me to get the hell out of there). Game 2 I got an early Dack and a Welder in play to his Jace. I drew a lot of Forces, got Dack to ultimate range. Game 3 I misstepped a turn 1 duress, cast Vault Key on my turn 1, he didn't find an answer on his turn. Vintage, the ol' turn 1 (or turn 20) format.

Katzby, I'm Sean Ottaway.

Also, Tom, this deck is sweet, it was fun watching your opponents going "wtf..."

As far as I can tell, there won't be any videos of the first couple weeks. I was under the impression Cockatrice saved them, but I can't seem to access the replays, anyone else? I'm going to try to set something up to record the match next week, we'll see how it goes.

In the meantime, match report vs Dave:

Week 2 against Dave Kaplan:

G1:

He's on the play, starts off with a Probe into a Library and passes. I frown, as my hand is very all-in.  I play a Mox and fetch a Trop, cast Oath. It resolves. His next turn he misses on land. I draw an Orchard, play it, cast a Preordain and see 2 Griselbrands. I'm basically forced to keep them both on top, draw one, and pass the turn. He misses on land again and that's gg as I Oath for the Griselbrand on top.

G2:
I side in 2 abrupt decay and 2 nature's claim. I'm still not sure where I want to be on those, but I figure 6 answers to cage and a little insurance against a delver/pyromancer can't be terrible. Dave once again starts off with a Library and passes. Thankfully no probe, so he doesn't see my hand has no counters. I play two moxes and an orchard, cast a preordain, bottom a Jace and top a Ponder. Cast Oath, it resolves. I'm sure he has the Cage. Or multiple Cages. He takes his turn, doesn't find an answer, and I Oath. Draw some cards, find Vault, also resolves. He never finds the Karakas (which I hadn't noticed was in his list, but he showed me later) and that's pretty much game as I go for the Key.

2-0, thanks to some great draws for myself and some not so great ones for him, sorry Dave! Hopefully we meet in a tournament soon (preferably the finals, where I'll be okay with you having better luck) Smile

I definitely think some brewing is good, but having a baseline to play the brews against is also important, otherwise the games mean almost nothing. I'm sure we'll all have a sweet deck or two to play!
