Not bad, 100 players for the 1st one! Good luck to all TMDers that are playing!
3  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Podcast] So Many Insane Plays Podcast Episode 49: B/R List Update on: October 05, 2015, 04:42:50 pm
I don't think there's enough volume of results for MTGO to impact B&R changes, but it probably didn't help in the last VSL, when I think it was eFro that had 3 CotV played in him in the first 2 turns, i think at 0, 1, and 2, and I think he might have just rage-quit that game but the details are a bit hazy now. Buehler seemed to mention his disdain for chalice over the entire course of the season.

I know DCI sets the list, but I'm sure there are some people speaking up at Wizards that get back to the DCI and have some influence.

Aren't the dailies barely firing anymore? If there are 10-12 people playing globally I don't put much more stock in MTGO than 12 buddies playing Vintage at their local.

They aren't caught up, but it looks like they are firing every day per the below link:

I'm now registered on Gatherling and will try to make one of these soon.

The weekday ones will be impossible given that I work until 5PM then need to commute home, but I'll try to hit the weekend ones (or maybe just stay and play at work if possible...)

I think 5:30 was chosen so that we could have European participation as well, which is a good thing, but maybe that can be changed in the future if its determined that most players are in the US? I imagine the same issue might occur for any west coast US participants when they are still at work at 2PM, but maybe most magic players don't work 9 to 5 shifts such as myself.

If these were scheduled at 6:30PM, the weekdays would be possible for me.

Thanks!

I guess I don't play enough that I was needing the payouts to subsidize me. I've just been buying singles as needed and dabbling in the constructed open room, but it does seem that if people are trying to justify building a collection, MTGO is a bit clueless as to what they are doing.

They really need to get some type of player advisory committee together, or at least read all the feedback online because seems like things are in a bad place right now....

P.S: For those cashing out, sell me your Wastelands first!!! Just kidding.....

I think the lack of Dredge over the past year is a moral crisis rather than a metagame issue.

VSL players have turned to Dredge only with great reluctance.

Some of the comments VSL players have helped perpetuate (that also already existed and/or were aired elsewhere)
Dredge is no fun to play
Dredge is no fun to play against
Dredge ruins the game
Dredge is not "real Magic"
Dredge doesn't test "skill" in "Magic".....

Agree, gets a pretty bad rap. I was watching the coverage of NYSE on Twitch and at the end in the chat box, someone made a comment to the effect of "Now that he won a Lotus maybe he can build a real deck"...

Seems a bit much to insult people like that. Play what you like, and don't worry about anyone else, makes more sense to me...

Good stuff. Listened to some on the train this morning and should finish up on the ride home tonight.

I am hoping to make it to the next one that is held in Columbus. Michigan is a bit far.  Do you ever have any crew from Pittsburgh that show up? Hoping to meet a playtest group that would like to attend the Ohio tournaments with me.

P.S: I just went through your back catalog of podcasts. Are you on hiatus? Any plans to bring it back?
10  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: Ram Roller on: July 06, 2015, 05:50:08 pm
If you can't do a turn one Lodestone Golem, it's most likely you'll have some other type of disruption to play instead of this, so I'd have a hard time playing it...

Here's the card fsecco:

Artifact Creature - Juggernaut
Ramroller attacks each turn if able.

Ramroller gets +2/+0 as long as you control another artifact.

Base P/T - 2/3

Flavor text :As unstoppable as it is unsteerable.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Eternal staples shortlist, does it exist? on: June 29, 2015, 01:34:52 pm
On further thought, another reason that MTGTop8 might be a bad data source, is there is no way to easily filter on proxy enviro vs. regular, and online vs paper, and US vs Other metas.  In addition, there could be misleading data issues with cards being used due to lack of power, or online price. Personal example: I use Ghost Quarters on MODO because I find it hard to pay $75 for "pretend" wastelands. I didn't mind paying the $110 for a Black Lotus, but I'll only go so far... Smile

I think all you can really do is create the list based on winning decks that you'd like to play, as already suggested by a few.

I used the MTG Top 8 as a reference to make my own checklist. Similar to what Morphling.de did in the past but I just tailored it to things i'd "want to play" as opposed to an overall list of staples.

13  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] The History of Vintage: 2003 on: June 24, 2015, 09:24:40 am
I just finished reading the 10 year compilation that was available in the past few days at work, and will be picking up 2003 here shortly.

It's been a fascinating read and It's been many years since I've seen some of those player's names and stories, some of which I remember reading back in Inquest and the Duelist in the mid-90s when I was 15, 16 years old.

Kudos for compiling this series!

Good luck everyone and I'll keep my eyes peeled for results and reports this weekend.

I'm getting back into Vintage after a 6 or 7 year hiatus and will definitely try to get to the NYSE IV next year as it's not too far a drive from Pittsburgh.
Looks like a lot of fun and I like the heightened stakes!

Hello! I'm on MODO, same username as this (Loukayza). Just registered and only have MUD built, but hopefully will build more decks going forward. Looking forward to seeing some of you on there!

I'll look for you. Good luck with your deck! I think you picked a good one.

Yes, the only thing I couldn't do was spend that money they were asking for on Wastelands so I have Ghost Quarters for now, but picked up the Power as I knew I could always use it and everything else.

Once the price of those go down (if ever), I'll feel a lot better about tourney play, or maybe I'll just grin and bear it and pick them up in the next few months. Was hoping Tempest Remastered would bring them down...

18  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic Online Power Nine Owners on: June 04, 2015, 07:47:09 pm
Hello! First post here so thank you for having me. I haven't played magic in over 7 years but I recently heard the Power 9 was on MTGO so in the past couple of weeks, I registered and purchased a P9 set and the other rares needed for MUD. Years ago I had 4 or 5 of the power 9 and almost all of the other staples but I sold out to move on to another hobby. I had an interest again and perused eBay and was amazed at the price increases in the past couple of years. When I stopped playing you could get an Emerald or a Pearl for around $300 and a beat lotus for $700-800.

I've played 6 or 7 matches so far and this is very exciting to be able to play vintage while slowly getting my collection back. I've done some misplays and mis-clicked a few times (i.e triggering with smokestack, tangle wire, etc, in the proper order),  so I understand how it isn't for everyone since doing those things is a lot easier with cardboard.

I'm going to stick with it as it's nice to be able to log in for 20 minutes and get a quick match in anytime you'd like!

P.S: This is my username on there as well, so hopefully we'll play a match at some point!
