1  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Beta Bash!! Brighton, MI on: May 22, 2008, 02:21:44 pm
Hello everyone, few more last minute details:

On that Saturday, and every Saturday in Brighton, there is a farmer's market going on in the back parking lot behind our shop. What this means is that players will have to park on the street out front or the parking lots around town. This is unfortunate I know but you should be able to park on any streets or any lots that are not restricted by a clearly posted sign. There is a street that surrounds the back parking lot that should have available parking but if not you can go across main st. behind the "Remax" and there is a lot and many side streets back there. Again, I apologize for the slight inconvenience and this was unavoidable.

Also, deck registration will be required but if you don't fill one out ahead of time, then you can pick one up at the shop. We will be opening at 11 and registration starts at noon so get there when you can and have you decklist completed, neat, and correct.

Thanks and any questions call: 8102293300 or post it here.

11  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: DUALS FETCHES and GOYFS, OH MY!!!!!-09/08/07 on: September 09, 2007, 01:06:24 am
I appreciate the effort Paul but here are some more accurate results, lol.

Top 8:

Christopher Walton - Salvagers Game VS Kacey Keel (Me) - 42 Land
Trevor Petrilli - Goblins (Green Splash) VS Paul Nicolo - UGb w/Psychotog
Mike Bradley - RG Beats w/Blood Moon in the board (I was terrified) VS Zachary Wallace - UGr Thresh
Josh Bettens - UGr Thresh VS Jeremy Rutherford - Faerie Stompy

Top 4:

Sal Game VS UGr Thresh (Bettens)
Goblins VS UGr Thresh (Wallace)

Top 2:

UGr Thresh (Bettens) VS Goblins

They split sort of. 1st and second basically both took the credit of $80 so it is like they drew. Instead the goblin player technically "conceded" but they did not actually play it out.

Great time. I think most everyone enjoyed themselves for the most part. Few things of note:

- The goblins player did not lose a single game all day.
- UGr (Bettens) was running Troll Ascetic
- 42 Land conceded in the quarterfinals. We played 2 games after I gave my teamate (Chris) the match and I won game one and he won game 2...::shrug::

Finally thanks to eveyone for coming out and I may or may not write a report soon. I was very happy with my deck despite the fact that people think I took too long to tap my lands .
12  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: DUALS FETCHES and GOYFS, OH MY!!!!!-09/08/07 on: September 06, 2007, 09:47:27 pm

14  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: [Report] Top 8 at Mox Tourny in Flint, MI on: July 29, 2007, 07:33:40 pm
Thanks Rich.

Dark Ritual was very strong against other control decks especially counter based ones. Ritual - Duress - Hymn Is an amazing way to start a game against them. Not to mention against combo that goes off on turn 1.

As for more creatures, I do like hierarch in board but not so much in the main because he needs to be in the deck only against someone in which possibly losing 4 life due to confidant wont be a problem. Which brings me to confidant, I loved him. This deck often has a problem with running out of steam and he can easily solve that problem. Plus I am liking the factories more and more, they are great to chip away at them while waiting for a goyf or shade. Not to mention they kill thresholded mongoose.

Lastly, I agree with you on deed in the flint meta but I can't think of anything too amazing to put in that slot besides things like therapy, extirpate in the main, or maybe hippie?

To conclude my changes right now:

- 2 Jitte
+ 2 Factories

- 2 Deed
+ 2 Smother
15  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / [Report] Top 8 at Mox Tourny in Flint, MI on: July 29, 2007, 04:14:47 pm
The 24-hour wait for my list, lol. Merry Birthday:

BGW Brew[/B][/U]

Creatures[/B]

4 Tarmogoyf
4 Dark Confidant
3 Nantuko Shade

Aggro[/B]

2 Umezawa's Jitte

Disruption[/B]

4 Duress
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Vindicate
3 Smallpox
2 Pernicious Deed
4 Wasteland

Mana[/B]

4 Dark Ritual
4 Polluted Delta
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Swamp
3 Scrubland
3 Bayou

Sideboard[/B]

4 Unmask
3 Engineered Plague
3 Extirpate
3 Loxodon Hierarch
2 Pernicious Deed

There you have it, in all its glory. Notes on a few choices and thoughts about the day:

First off, Smallpox. I was lacking in Sinkhole and almost did not build the deck because of this but I said heck, lets try that one card from Time Spiral. Turns out that there was only one instance in which sinkhole would have been better and about 5 instances in which smallpox won me the game. I love this card in the deck and will be preaching it for quite a while.

Secondly, Umezawa's Jitte. Out of the entire day, this card was never played or equip to anything. Mostly because I never drew it but I think if I would have I would have been a bit upset. I have already taken it out. Right now I am testing Mishra's Factory in its spot but I will have to try a few things. The only time I actually wanted jitte, was in round one, game 3, against fish who had his own equip to an azorious guildmage while tapping my goyf. Ouch.

Thirdly, Pernicious Deed. This card seems to maybe conflict with my deck at times. It also seems to be quite slow and is vunerable to stifle. I would like to replace this in the main as well. It is great in the sideboard and will probably be up'ed to 3. Possible replacements include, Damnation, Diabolic Edict, and Smother.

Finally, as for the board, I would like to up the deeds to 3 by cutting the hierarchs to 2. Also, Extipate was not the greatest thing ever. I did Extirpate fish-guy's tundras, that was funny, although I lost that game anyway.

Now for the fun part, the matches themselves:

Round 1: John w/UWB Fish (No Counterspells?) 1-2

Well, I am terrible at remembering what happened at tournaments but all I remember is he mulled to 6 in game 3 and kept a no land hand with 3 duress. I ritualed into duress and saw the 3 opposing duress and 3 creatures. Took a duress then proceeded to hymn the other 2 away as well. Moral of this story is obviously that he won that game some how and that some how's name is jitte to the face.

Round 2: Greg w/War Tax deck? 2-0

Ummm, We can safely say that this was a bye.

Round 3: Good'ol Dan Murphy (Cancerstix/Umbowta) w/URG ZooGro 2-0

This was quite the difficult match because we were friends and we were both playing quite well. Both games were close but game 2 ended rather excitingly...for me at least. He had 2 lands, a rancor'ed goyf, and a normal goyf while I had a goyf, a shade, and a confidant all untapped, as well a swamp untapped. The goyfs had 5 counters and he attacked with the rancor'ed one. I blocked with shade and my goyf, pumped the shade and he did lethal to the shade. So my shade and his supergoyf die and he passes the turn. I reveal to "bob" a smallpox and a I draw a wasteland. Wow. I resolve small pox, sac my bob, he sacs his last creature and 1 of his 2 lands. I waste the other land and attack twice to win. I was at 4.

Round 4: ERG! Chris (Mastershake) w/Life.dec 2-0

This was very stressful as I did not want to beat my teamate let alone play him in the first place. Turns out all the stress was for nothing seeing how Chris made it into the top 8 in 8th seed anyway but I just top decked swords the whole match and kept him off creatures.

Round 5/Quarterfinals: Jason Gerke w/UGW Thresh I.D and 0-2

We obviously I.D'ed in the 5th but had to play each other there after in the top 8. This match was again against a friend of mine who I play regularly with at Heroquest in Howell. Although he has just recently gotten into legacy and I was actually the one who suggested the deck to him, Lol. Anyway, he definitly deserved this win and the mox cause he was playing very well, he made smart deck choices, and he was working off a limited collection like 3 goyfs, not the right fetchlands, and 1 or 2 stifles. Game one I drew all 4 of my vindicates and no white mana all game. Game 2 was an even more crushing defeat, I was winning with a goyf, a shade, and a confidant on the table and like 5 or 6 lands when suddenly he plays Mystic Enforcer I don't have a swords but next turn did top deck and Engineered Explosives. Savage. He was going to lose 2 turns later because my goyf was a 6/7 and my shade had 6 lands behind him forceing him to block. But oh well, congrats to him and everyone who made the trip. I was very happy with my deck and still am.

Btw, up until the night before at about 3 am, I was planning on playing a burn deck that main decked Jotun Grunt...Ick!
16  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: MOX TOURNAMENT, SAT. JULY 28, FLINT, MI on: July 28, 2007, 10:49:08 pm
I top 8'ed, but lost in the quarterfinals to the man who won the mox, with BWG Brew. My own thing but based on hanni's base and such. I am pretty sure this is the first time since people have been working on the deck that it has placed in a kind of big tournament. Go me. I am writing a report soon but overall very nice tournament. Looking foreward to the others.
17  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Legacy in Garden City 6/23/07 on: June 23, 2007, 09:04:53 pm
3-1 with Belcher. Lost in the Quarterfinals. Matches:

Round 1 - Trevor with G Splash Gobs: 2-0

Game one I make 16 goblins on turn one, gg.
Game two I get a slow start but get both lands out of my deck and wish for cave-in to kill fanatic, piledriver, and something else. Next he play chief, followed the next turn by matron and grabs tinkerer not remembering he costs a mana to activate and I flip my deck the next turn.

Round 2 - Austin with U/W Landstill: 2-0

Game 1 I mull to 6 and he is not familliar with my deck and saves a counter for whatever I get with burning wish. He settles for bringing my storm down 1 by forcing one copy. I get 8 gobs, he swords one then gets stuck on three mana for like 2 turns and I win.
Game 2 I have 2 wins and fake him out with the burning wish followed by belcher for....enough, 40 or so.

Round 3 - Dan with U/G/R Thresh: 1-2 (He was a nice guy and gave me a win cause he was leaving).

Game 1 he counters my initial attempt and some how top deck into the 1 needle in his main the turn after I resolve belcher with no lands in my deck and a guide in hand.
Game 2 I have to deal with 2 pyroclasms, 2 needles, and 4 stifles. Of coarse he draws like a ton of all that and gets 2 goyf to beat my face.

Round 4 - Chris with Truffle: I.D.

Quarterfinals - Mike with Sui: 0-2

Game 1 I mull to five in order to get a win condition and he starts with dark rit, 2 carnophages, and a duress...Game Over.
Game 2 I can't go off turn one but I have 2 wins so I think I will be ok...Nope, Unmask and Duress on turn one. Another case of Game Over.

Overall I had a good time...There was not much more to this report...I lost. But belcher is still busted all out. See everyone at Flint!

In round 12, I'm playing against Flash.

In game two, he Lim Duls Vaults on turn 2. On turn 3 he does nothing, turn 4 Duresses me and sees Pyroblast, Stifle, Lightning Bolt, and some other stuff. He takes Stifle.

Two turns later his board is still Tundra and Underground Sea. He taps Tundra to Orim's Chant me. I Daze it. He Dazes my Daze, floating a U and picking up his Sea. I pay 1. He Force of Wills my Daze. He has to have 2 mana after the Chant. I Pyroblast the Force of Will. He Force of Wills my Daze again. I Red Elemental Blast his Force of Will. He uses his U floating to pay for my Daze, replays his Sea and passes.

I attack and Bolt him twice to win.

We fought over a Daze with all of those cards. It felt strange.

I am glad to hear someone was playing chant in flash. Chris (MasterShake) was planning on doing that if we had gone down. We don't understand why more people didnt do that.

In the case of anyone giving a hoot, the top 8 was:

1 Truffle Shuffle
2 U/w Landstill
1 BWg Zoo
2 Goblins
1 U/w Control
1 UGw Threshold

The top 4 dwindled down to Truffle Shuffle, BWg Zoo, Goblins and UGw Threshold.

Top 2 Goblins and Truffle Shuffle with Goblins coming out on top, after someone got confused over to what degree one could bribe him to concede.
