1  Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck] A possible new archtype or a flop? "Time Chasm& on: February 11, 2004, 03:58:55 am
Problems for such a deck:

Losing game 1 loses the match, so you have less margin for error than a typical deck.

You are completely reliant on them having no answer MD or SB to confinement or in consistently getting a 3 card combo on the table and them not having mass removal.

You can't actually beat a deck with a method of recursion as you rely on themselves to draw cards until they die.

"Give you the rest of the turns" decks have been tried now and then before, but they typically include some sort of lock other than damage prevention (ie: stasis/root maze or smokestack) so that even if the opponent draws an answer they can't play it. Even those decks have had very limited success.
2  Eternal Formats / Creative / Why not Manabond on Oshawa Stompy? on: February 05, 2004, 01:02:21 pm
Madness is an aggresive deck with a reasonably light mana base. It wants to play first.

So in 7 cards, playing first, how much benefit are you going to get from this? One land gets used to play the manabond (5 cards left). So of those 5 cards, how many will be other lands that you can play out with it(typically 1-2). Then you lose any non-madness, non-flashback spells, often can't pay to madness the Wurm, and all you've really done is empty your hand for a bad exploration.

Then, later on it makes a monumentally bad topdeck.

You might also consider landstill. It will probably be less intimidating for you to play in terms of choices than tog, and can be played with the power you have. If you are looking for a non-tog control deck, and can't afford to optimize keeper, it would seem to me that this is the way to go.

Also, while it has game against good players and good decks, it also does very well against worse decks as newer opponents tend to play very poorly against it. There are some solid lists for it in the type one forum.
