Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck's Discussion] - MUD - Spheres & Disasters

I ran MUD at the SCG Indy going 5-3. I agree with a ton of what madmanmike had to say. The deck had problems with a lack of draw. I would play everything in my hand and then I would be in topdeck mode where I would get land. I really wanted to have Bizaar in the deck for that fact.
I also played with Metalworkers. It was awesome to be able to play a turn 2 Sundering Titan, Trike or Karn. Karn was an all-star in the deck. He gives the deck a much faster clock, and in a Stax Mirror that isn't playing him he is far superior to Mox Monkey once you can get him out.
I agree that Null Rod really isn't that good in this deck. I really should be replaced with Orb of Dreams. That card is great against Gush and Fastbond. They play their lands again but can't combo off b/c they can't use them until the next turn. It is also great against Ichorid due to their Ichorids becoming useless and FKZ not doing anything either. Sphere + Orb vs Ichorid is great and can sometimes mean GG. Speaking of this matchup, Tabernacle should be in your SB for it too along w/ Needle on Bazaar which makes Vise win you the game. It also helps out against goblins and a few other random aggro decks floating around (just pray you don't play Goblins w/ MD Tin Streets like I got paired up against in the 1st round of Indy).
If the deck can get going it can have pretty strong locks early and if it can hold them and continue to draw into them it can be done FTW. I like Juggernaught which I didn't play in Indy but played Trike, Dup, Karn x2, and Titan. I was never really a fan of Ghost Quarters but leaned more towards Factories which worked pretty well. My SB which worked wonders for me all day was: Needle x4 LoTV x4 Tabernacle x2 Jester's Cap x3 Powder Keg x2
The only changes I would make to it is to add x2 Razormane's for the Kegs. He would have helped out a bunch with stuff.
I hope this helps and I just wanted to put my $0.02 in after playing this at Indy.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Black Vise MUD

With the unrestriction of Black Vise I have wanted to add that card into Stax but I've had a large problem doing it in a 5-Color Version. This is my own tweaking to Pablo Ambrojo's deck from Catalan Vintage League (so it might look familiar to some).
Maindeck:
4 Ancient Tomb 1 City of Traitors 3 Mishra's Factory 4 Mishra's Workshop 1 Strip Mine 1 Tolarian Academy 4 Wasteland
1 Black Lotus 1 Mana Crypt 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Sol Ring
1 Karn, Silver Golem 1 Triskelion 1 Sundering Titan 1 Duplicant
4 Black Vise 4 Chalice of the Void 4 Sphere of Resistance 4 Smokestack 4 Tangle Wire 1 Trinisphere 3 Orb of Dreams 3 Crucible of Worlds 2 Powder Keg 1 Memory Jar Sideboard: 2 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale 2 Razormane Masticore 3 Jester's Cap 4 Leyline of the Void 4 Pithing Needle
And also in my playtesting I have found that in order to do well against decks like Grow-A-Tog or Flash you need to have disruption on turn 1 which is hard to get sometimes without having a turn 1 Workshop. So I thought about taking all the color away from the deck and just playing with acceleration from lands such as Ancient Tomb and City of Traitors. With those cards in the deck I now have 9 of 60 cards that will produce me at least 2 mana on my first turn. This will then allow me to get out a disruption piece such as Resistor, Trini, Orb, Orb, or Tanglewire. Not to mention the acceleration that will come from the Power, Crypt, and Sol Ring. I believe that is will give me better odds to having enough mana to put a lock piece down early. The only decks that really don't need mana is Ichorid, that is when Powder Keg is key, along with post board Needles and Leylines.
Flash is a matchup that I still worry about but it seems that 3 Orbs, 2 Kegs, and 3 Factories could put me able to set up fast enough.
I want to see first turns that look like: Workshop, Vise, Sphere, GO. Vise puts such a clock on the game when have lock pieces down and your opponent has little ability to react to them.
I was wondering what suggestions people may have to the deck besides to just play 5 Color Stax. I think that in the current environment there will be a shift to combo decks such as GWS Long to beat GAT. It seems like in the current environment if you can just lock your opponent down before they get going that you can take full advantage of Vise. Do you think that this deck could put up a good enough showing to T8 a larger event or is it underpowered to its 5C cousin?

Vroman could you explain your current sideboard and your plan for it?
Also, what do you think about AetherFlash. I know it kills your own creatures but will allow for you to just have a kill by the factories in the deck. Kinda screwy I know but an interesting thought. Maybe be used in mono red stax?

With the question of Empty the Warrens showing up has anyone tested going back to having Burning Wish in the deck to replace the spot where the Tendrils has seem to become maindeck (like the original version of Meandeck and the world champs deck this year)? And then having both Tendrils and ETW in the SB and Tinker/ Colossus mainboard.

Althought I lack a lot of tournament experience (did play in the last T1 w/ it in Indy and got to watch Becker play IT there) with this deck I have found that in my goldfishes that I really like Timetwister in to be included in it. As Becker said it's either that turn 1 acceleration into the kill or it's that restart button. In games where I found myself floating a bunch of mana only to cast Will and it gets countered if you have this backup it can immensely help you to just shuffle it all back in. Most likely if you have them in your discard you'll get your rits back and most likely a tutor to help pull off the rest of the combo that you need to get your opponent out. It basically got taken out for a draw 2 card. I don't see how that draw two card will help you when your Will got Duressed, FoW'd, or Mana Drained. Granted you can still go off when you don't have Will, but with it almost always turns into an automatic win. It may be turning into play preference, but I always like that last ditch Reset button to have in games.
