1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Ichorid help on: August 20, 2008, 12:46:17 pm
So, since there is a T1 tournament coming up ina a reletively short time in my area, I decided to put down my legacy decks for a weekend and experience vintage one more time. The only deck that I can really afford is Ichorid so I guess thats what Im going with. The list im working with is at the bottom of the post in case anyone cares. What I really would like to know is how ichorid fares against the rest of the current T1 metagame. Also for that matter, what is the current metagame and which are the strongest decks currently. The first thing I want my deck to do is fend off hate so I know that I am going to need colored mana in the maindeck and my whole sideboard or nearly all of my sideboard goes to stopping leyline of the void. The only other things I have to worry about are waste/strip, jailer, and crypt (namely when combined with welder). 1 darkblast maindeck kills jailer and welder so it seems like a good idea to run that. Im running 5 lands maindeck so I can run a extra card in my board (some mega tech if your look at my board below) and that gives me 14 cards sideboard for leyline plus my one other card. For Dread return targets I Figured I had 3 really strong options and 2 slots: Flame-kin Zealot, Ancestor's chosen, and Cephalid Sage. For my last question I would like to know which of these two shopuld I be running. Anyways here is my current list.

4 Bazaar of Baghdad
4 Serum Powder
4 City of brass
2 Petrified Field
1 Undiscovered Paradise
4 Golgari Grave troll
4 Stinkweed Imp
4 Golgari thug
1 Darkblast
4 Ichorid
4 Narcomoeba
4 Bridge from below
4 Leyline of the void
4 Chalice of the void
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Unmask
2 Dread Return
1 Ancestor's chosen
1 Flamekin Zealot

4 Gemstone Mine
4 Chain of Vapor
4 Emerald Charm
2 Wispmare
1 Ancestral Recall

With that last spike in attendance, we now have 59 people which gives us 2 more people then the last source tournament. I will now put up my Garruk Wildspeaker for prize support. Im looking forward to a excellent tournament.
4  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: MWS Source Legacy tournament on: July 15, 2008, 10:09:52 pm
2 Days are left for registration and we have 50 people signed up so far. The Jap Chants are confirmed and if we can hit 58 or more people then a Garruk is added to the prize pool. So this is your last chance if you want to sign up.

Just thought that Id get the word out about this.

So, as some of you may know, me and dynamite decided to help set up a MWS tourney for the source. I will be running the tournament and DeepfriedDynamite will be providing prize support (see below). This tournament is not going to commence for some time, due to the fact that Im going on vacation and it will be neraly impossible for me to try and run the tournament while doing so. The tournament most likely wont start until after the 14th of July but that also means that you can register at any time you would like between then. The official date that the tournament will start will be announced at a later time. The tournament has no player cap so the more, the merrier. To avoid disputes between matches, I strongly suggest that people save their game logs. If you do not, then there is no way for us to know what happened. Rounds will most likely last 3-5 days. This tournament will be swiss and cut to top8. To register, make a post telling me your deck code and any contact information. If you wish to change your deck code, you may do so only before the tournament starts. If you would like to donate prizes, PM me and we will discuss it. The more prize support, the merrier. Smile

Prizes:
1st Place: 1 Bitterblossom, 1 Gaddock Teeg, 1 Jap Goblin Lackey
2nd Place: 1 Liliana vess

8  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: New gaming store in New England/RI on: February 12, 2008, 09:21:23 am
You should probably have posted it here first. It is the biggest website for legacy on the web. Theres already a thread of this there so theres no need to worry. That being said, you should seriously consider moving the date of this as a large legacy event is going on the same day in the Northeast. it would be a shame if both events get low attendance because of the conflicting dates. The week before and the week after are both free so why not run it then

9  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: New gaming store in New England/RI on: February 08, 2008, 04:30:12 pm
There are alot of events going on that day, expecially for legacy. Theres a tourney at hadley and it would be a shame for both events to be hurt by one another. Also theres a myriad games tourney. I suggest that you move the tournament back a week or two and you will get much better attendance.
10  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: UB Drain control on: December 18, 2007, 09:24:21 am
@tomjoad: I like all of your changes except getting rid of the colossus. I woulndt mind putting another tinker target in this spot but im pretty sure you need 2 of them to consistently work. I was thinking i could drop colossus altogether and try 1 plat(thanks for the suggestion grapez) and 1 titan because they both control the opponent and are a win con. I used to use dazes back when i played T1 a year ago and they worked for me but i guess times change. ill get rid of them, the gifts, and the 1 truth for duress, mystical, and merchant scroll.

Also is 4 force, 4 drains, 4 duress, and 3 spell snares enough control for the decks out there.

Thanks for the help.
11  Eternal Formats / Creative / UB Drain control on: December 03, 2007, 05:29:57 pm
Im trying throw a vintage deck together for TMC so i thought id pull out my old tinker list and put it up here to revamp it. I want to get something close to tier for the tournament. Im trying not to make it a tinker deck... rather a mid-range control deck with a tinker/colossus finish. here is the base list for what im thinking of.

4 Force of will
4 Brainstorm
4 Mana drain
4 Daze
3 Ponder
3 spell snare
3 duress
2 echoing truth
2 Darksteel colossus
1 vampiric tutor
1 Demonic tutor
1 ancestral recall
1 Gifts ungiven
1 tinker
1 fact or fiction
1 yawgmoth's will

5 mox
4 Polluted delta
4 underground sea
4 flooded strand
2 island
1 seat of synod
1 lotus
1 sol ring
1 mana vault
1 tolarian academy

I dont have a sideboard yet but im thinking somthing like:
1 duress
1 spell snare
2 echoing truth
4 chalice (they work with tinker and i cast my moxen before it resolves)
4 leyline
3 something

The deck sets up turn 1 and 2 with lots of draws spells and tries to get into the mid game with its array of disruption and cast a tinker/colossus ftw. FoF and gifts are good card selection alongside brainstorm/ponder and the obvious recall. Mana drain is good with all the draw/tutoring of the deck. I run 2 colossus for consistencey but i was thinking of doing a 1-1 split between colossus and sundering titan. Is this a good place to start for the deck. Am I running enough artifacts to support tinker and am i running enough control. TMC will be the first vintage tournament ive played in over a year so all critisism is welcome because im reletively unfamiliar with the new metagame.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Legendary land idea/ Back to the forums on: November 16, 2007, 05:40:50 pm
I havent been on this website for a while because i sort of lost interest in vintage and moved to legacy. I stopped the modification contests and since the 3cb stopped there realy wasnt much reason for me to continue posting here. I wanted to share 1 of my card ideas ive been thinking about, but the source realy doesnt have card creation board so i decided to come back here. Vintage realy has changed since i left. I witnessed the flash erra through the eyes of a legacy player so i never got to see how it affected T1 and i never got witness the awesomeness that is GAT. I might try to make it to a Vintage tournament soon and i wont play the homebrew decks i used to (UG landstill/mana lock, UWB tinker control). Ive got to place well at a few legacy tournaments and it has helped me to understand why i was unable to do well at this format.

Enough talk, time i just post what ive been thinking about.

(Legendary Land)
Legendary land

(Legendary Land) comes into play with 4 counters.
Pay 1 Life: Remove a counter from (Legendary Land). If you did then add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool. Any player may play this abiltity.

Besides a cool name, this card i think is pretty complete. With this card, players could resond to each others triggers and get into battles on who will be getting mana. This card would be great if you could get your opponent to low life and act as a super powered lotus. It doesnt tap to make mana so its balanced and i decided to make it make a mana of any color because it seemed underpowered otherwise and it allows for better interaction with the opponent.

Thoughts?

Ps: I was thinking of getting the modification contests started again. Anyone else want to get these up and running 1 more time.
13  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Type 0? on: June 27, 2007, 12:48:45 am
Lol proxies would suck but 20 black lotuses, 20 ancestrall recalls, and 20 lightning bolts is pretty much a resilient automatic turn 1 kill.
14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Gifts ungiven modification poll on: June 20, 2007, 11:57:47 am
Wow 23 votes. Ill end this now, so that means Glix won this one. We can start the next modification contest as soon as glix contacts me.
15  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Looking for competitive players with in 1/2 hr drive from Bristol CT on: June 20, 2007, 11:54:37 am
Meh at least its in CT... do you ever do legacy. If you dont ill probably still bring 2 or 3 people up sometime but legacy is alot more convinient (have 2 different legacy decks already set, can probably gaurantee bringing 3 people)... plus you could get it sanctioned.

Umm we could go back to the old points system... or we could keep the banned list and have the 3 mana rule taken out.

Oneofchaos won the last modification contest. The card he chose for the next modification contest to be is Gifts ungiven.

The rules:
Take a Gifts Ungiven (Champions of Kamigawa) and change the name (Very important) plus add your own little modifications. Try to not to make it to complicated, yet funny. The winner will have bragging rights and choose the card for the next modification contest. Post your entries and we will see the best. When we get enough entries Ill give it a week to open a poll that will last one week. This is the sixth modification contest (excluding Beserk Murlodant which never realy took off). Once we have 4 more contests then i will open up a best of the best poll for the winners.

NEW RULE: If less then ten people submit entries then two per person will be allowed.

Oneofchaos won the last Modification contest with his JuggernautGo Entry.

The other Modification contests can be found here:
Best of the best modification contest
Juggernaut Modification contest
Null Rod modification contest poll

So your playing clamp fish... not to crazy... and the deck seems decent. I probably wouldnt play midcensor here because your list wants to be playing as many threats as fast as possible so holding him back would seem bad.

Good luck with the deck.

edit: You might want to try vial as nearly all of your creatures help you draw. Vial will help you play them all each turn.
25  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Best of the best modification poll on: June 12, 2007, 01:30:44 pm
Ok so dozers card is the best. Oneofchaos chose Gifts Ungiven for the next modification contest. I have finals to study for so i will not be able to type up the thread today.
