One issue that I think is worth considering is how that swamp looks in a smaller hand. You don’t often want to see the swamp in your opening hand, but in a seven-card hand it is tolerable. In a six-card hand it is a liability, and it is dreadful with five or less cards. So one consideration you need to take into consideration when you play an off color land like this is how often you plan on taking a mulligan.

At one time I read or heard, that one of the issues with the flip cards is that they were unfair towards players with physical disabilities. That is, these people were unable to use the cards, and therefore they were at a distinct play disadvantage. Of course the Orb has enough else going against it that it probably won’t comeback anyway.
I remember the days when it was restricted, and it was a pain in the butt. Everyone wanted their cards at least three inches apart, to avoid the Orb, and it took up too much space, especially at smaller card shop tournaments. Plus it provided countless opportunities for argument. I say let it stay where it is. We don’t need another $400 staple anyway.
Of course Time Vault came back from the dead, after a major rules update, which reworked the card yet kept the original intent, so I guess it is not completely impossible; just extremely improbable.

It’s important to talk about everything of course, but some of this is really too soon. At this point I feel like we need to find a core group of players, a judge, and a location. If all three are reliable the rest will take care of itself. What I mean is that if we can get eight dedicated players who will show up nearly every month, the exact specifications will not be too important. We can try a variety of things and just go with whatever brings in the most people.
For me personally, I prefer a cheaper entry fee to encourage more people to play. I really do not care one way or the other on proxies. I do not have any power and most likely will not be buying it anytime soon. If we play proxies I’ll use them, if not I’ll make a budget deck work.
Also, I am not a certified judge but I follow the game pretty closely and I judged quite a bit back in the old days. If push came to shove I could be drafted to service, maybe on some kind of rotating basis. But I would much rather play.
Anyway I hope to meet some of you guys next weekend.

Another place that is around is Coliseum of Comics. They have four locations around the city. I know most of the people at the Kissimmee store and I'm sure they would let us have a weekday if we wanted it. I'm sure they could swing it at the other locations too. Actually that will probably be the case everywhere. I imagine most places are pretty booked on the weekends, but if we wanted to run an event on a Tuesday night or something we could find a place relatively easily. One other thing that needs to be considered is finding someone to judge an event. I don’t know if anyone has given thought to this. I am not a big time player and I only have a small collection, but the way things are now I hardly ever play. The last event I went to was the Mirrodin prerelease. I just don’t get that big of a kick out of T2. I would really like to see something get going with vintage in the area. I’m willing to commit to coming ever time if we could get a monthly T1 event started. If seven other people make the same commitment, then we would have enough of a core group to make things happen. I certainly would like to get together at the prerelease. We could talk about this some more, kick around some ideas, and get a few games in. I will probably be coming alone so if anyone wants to meet up with me they can email me and I’ll give you my phone number. That way we can work it out. I really thing that we find eight T1 players in this town who are willing to do what it takes to get a regular game established.

I am in central Florida also. I live in Kissimmee and there is no T1 in the area. The closest place I have seen is Tampa, and that is a long drive.
You could count me as a regular if someone could get a once a month tournament going somewhere in the greater Orlando area. Or drop me a line if you guys just want to try getting a few games together sometime.
I see a few other people on here pretty much in the same boat as me; we want to play T1 but we are all just waiting around for someone to get it going. Maybe we just need to force the issue. I'm going to be at the Fifth Dawn Prerelease in a couple of weeks, us T1 players should get together there and see if we can get a core group togeher and a store that is willing to play host. That's all we really need to get started.
Like I said, drop me an email if your interested.
