1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Scrubbin out with UbaStax for a Jet. on: August 26, 2006, 01:19:22 pm
Wow, looks like we're both reading and post at same time. Smile

The altered rancor that Eugene has was drawn by the same artist that did the Spiderman.
It is in fact Eugene's altered Spiderman, he just lets me play it in my deck.

Goblin Welder is definitely a card to consider, it's probably the best answer for DSC. Fits in my curve too. Smile

@Dominik - You got it buddy. See it on the 9th. And more. Very Happy
2  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: R/G Hate - Round 5 - That's me on: August 26, 2006, 09:37:52 am
Hi guys, not a regular on the forums, one of my buddy's spotted this post, and let me know about it. Figured I'd chime in a few things regarding the "rancor putz".

Been playing since 94, been playing Taiga + Kird Ape since then. R/G has always been one of my favorites, but the deck build that I have has slowly evolved into something more competitive.

Props to Shockwave for being the catalyst towards this deck list. It was at a time when Landstill was being played mainly by him in the Untouchables T1 tournaments, and it would stomp all over the competition. Every time I played in a T1 there, i would always see 3 consistant things - Blue, Artifacts, Non-Basic Lands.

So I build a deck against that. A few tournaments later, I placed 1st. Mind you, Rich showed up last minute, and wasn't playing with all the pieces of his regular build, so I'll give credit that he wasn't playing at full potential.

Initial builds of R/G hate, aggro, whatever it's name, were as such:
//Burn//
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Chain Lightning
1x Kaervek's Torch

// Stompy Part //
4x Kird Ape
4x Skyshroud Elite
4x River Boa
4x Rancor
4x Berserk
4x Mishra's Factory

// Hate//
4x Gorilla Shaman
3x Dwarven Miner
1x Pyroblast (yes, 1 main)
4x Wasteland
1x Strip Mine

// Land //
Mix of Taigas, Wooded Foothills, Forests/Mountains
The boas/berserks were nice, but found to be too slow/ineffective.
Later replaced with Grim Lavamancers, Mogg Fanatics, Tin Street.
Dwarven Miner was removed at last minute, and replaced with Hidden Guerillas.

I also run 3x Root Maze. This card is an mvp against so many decks, and with a low curve, it puts a clock on my opponent.

Now, with all that said, I had a pretty good time at that tournament, despite a 3-3 record. Bane of my deck has been Tinker + artifact, and generally any deck that resolves tinker is usually in a good position. Can't deal with it, can't deal with DSC, I just accept it. (Props to Special K for turn 1 Razormane to smash my face.)

No offense buddy, but throwing me on your "Slops" list is pretty sad, just because i beat you. You seem to be insulted by Tin Street Hooligan, yet no mention of triple Energy Flux from Round 3. If you want a REAL slop to put on your list, why don't you tell everyone that i topdecked Spiderman to your face?

Regards,
Mike (aka saishore)
