Congratulations on your finish, it's great to see this deck doing well outside of quebec. I heard you were running maindeck Jotun Grunts and Misdirections, i've wanted to try Mis-D as aditionnal disruption, but the high casting cost (for confidant flips) allways turned me away from it. I've been playing 2 Grunts main and 1 sideboard for a little while now and they've been excellent, especially with the rise in popularity of Ichorid decks.
The list I played in the CQV (Quebec Vintage Championship) finals is posted here: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=31666.0, however it's tuned for our meta which is more aggro-control and alot less combo than in the States.

I'd definately be interested in seeing your build and a report if you have the time, and as you said, Boberman still rocks.

have you tested out leyline of the void any? there has been a lot of buzz about this new dredge deck and it seems like leyline is the best answer to that, not to mention it is pretty useful in a lot of other matchups as well

I don't think leyline has a place in this deck. Its not the kind of card that I want to pay 2BB for,  and 4 CMC sucks when Dark Confidant flips one up. I'm not a big fan of mulliganning to get a hate card that takes 4 slots of your sideboard against a deck that is overhyped IMO. If I expect alot of combo i'd prefer having CotVs or Stifle//Trickbind to an easily bouncable card that doesn't even slow Necro down, and I don't see any other matchups where i'd board into 4 Leylines.

I'm now playing Jotun Grunts in side and they're crazy good, add that to the Trinket-->Tormods, the sideboard Needle and Darkblast, tons of blockers, Wastelands, Salvagers who recur crypts, Aether spellbombs etc, I don't think the Ichorid matchup is very bad even though Ancient Grudge is hella good.

The Kamis and Unicorns are there for Oath as was pointed out earlier, also they're a house versus Dragon. Oath is an easy game 1 if they don't resolve a rod because you have trinket--> spellbomb to slow them down on top of your normal disruption. Post board Simic Sky Swallower destroys this plan, so Kamis have to come in to hate the Oath itself instead of the creature. Oath with Null rods can be a very hard matchup post board, so I felt the need to have 4 Kamis in the side although they arn't necessary. The sideboard of this deck like most others is very metagame dependant.

The extra Tormod's crypt in board is useful against Ichorid and that's it, so it was dropped. I cut 1 Kataki and added 2 Energy Flux in order to further hate Stax post-board, since it's a rough matchup for Boberman.

I'm now playing 3 Erayos maindeck because they're so freaking insane against control.

The CotVs come in on the play against Gifts and Long, and 1 Chalice comes in against many matchups in order to fetch it with Trinket. I was expecting tons of these decks in boston so thats why I ran all 4 CotVs instead of just 1 as a tutor target.

At a recent tournament here in quebec I ran swords to plowshares in the side and they were excellent, I think they help in alot of matchups so they're definatly getting a place in the sideboard.
An extra Darkblast, or other random Fish hade like Threads of Disloyalty (so good vs Grunt and Confidant) can be fit in. I've also wanted to try 4 Stifle in sideboard against Storm combo for a while, and they work well with the ressource-denial goal of the deck, but Long isnt a big enough part of the metagame up here to justify their inclusion so I haven't tried them out yet. Jotun grunt is another card I've yet to try in this deck and might be amazing post board in alot of matchups.

Brainfreeze also dominates the bomberman mirror if the opponent doesn't expect brainfreeze via C Wish or if you get it in your hand before he goes off. He can't combo out without losing if you have the freeze in hand.

-1 engineered explosives +1 vampiric tutor
i have never been excited about EE and the vamp allows you to find your combo earlier or help dig out of a tight spot

The EE is very useful to get rid of Chalice @ 0 and go off (5 colorless sources in deck), sometimes against multi-mox hands or aggro matchups its a good fetchable target for trinket, I like having it maindeck, but it probably isnt necessary.

Vamp is OK, I played it in my first versions of the deck, but I never really found the need for more than 1 tutor outside of the Trinket Mages.

3 Tundras: only the 2-3 salvagers maindeck except many W cards post-board (Kamis, Swords Kataki, etc.) -1 Tundra +1 Swamp could be a good idea in some metas though.

I'd be surprised that merchant scroll is any good in Bomberman.

You're looking at these two decks in the wrong way.

Bomberman and BoBerman are two completely different decks, Bomberman is a control deck plain and simple, it has a combo finish and has a possibility of creature beatdown.

BoBerman is a "fish" or aggro control deck at heart, it plays out like SS, with Duress Cutpurse and Erayo for disruption. Erayo makes a hard-lock with Cutpurse and is ridiculously easy to flip with trinkets who are insane toolbox creatures and your combo-enabler. The combo is an alternate kill you almost allways win by beatz, contrary to Bomberman.

I've cut Therapys completely since playing the deck both days at SCG Boston (2nd and 10th) Duress is obviously better but the cabals just never really impressed me and I found myself siding them out all the time so I swapped Erayos for them which have been nuts ever since.

Cutting Dimir Cutpurses or Wastelands is blashphemy, Cutpurse is boarded out in creatures matchups but great in the rest. And wasteland is the additional disruption that gives you a better match against so many decks, 2 or 3 wastes with 1 strip isnt such a strain on the manabase, although I agree that the deck has a slightly shaky manabase, like most 3color fish decks.

Chalices are good in the board, but you often board in only 1 since trinket can fetch it so 4 in the sideboard isnt a necessity, I was expecting much gifts/combo so I packed 4.

I must say Erayo was savage and singlehandedly won a game against me. How did Cabal Therapy work out? Not so well I presume? What were the Kami's+Ronom Unicorns for? Oath was that present or you feared Threads Of Disloyalty hype?

As Chiz pointed out earlier, I firmly believe that Therapy was the worst card of the deck day 1, I boarded them out in all but 2 matches, and I had wanted to try erayo's in the deck so i decided to swap them day 2. Erayo's were pretty good, very easily flippable. I generally kept them in versus control, but they were also sided out pretty often.

The Oath matchup game 1 is allright, but maindeck null rods hurt. Aether spellbomb doesnt disrupt them game 2 though, because of Simic Sky Swallower, so you need to hate the oaths themselves.

And finally, the deck should definatly be named BoBerman and not Bob-Herman because that just sounds retarded.

1 Bomberman/Fish Deck that had me guessing even after game 3 was over

That was me. I'd like to congratulate you once again, those were some good games in the finals and your list is sweet. I hope we get to have a rematch some time.

For the questions, i'd like you to explain why mana vault is not included, and how well did only 3 Bazaars work for you? It seems that the Uba Masks kinda suck without Bazaar, and the sinergy with welder is obviously amazing.

Thanks,
- Simon MacRae
