Good luck with the new assignment. Vintage needs ambassadors like you.
2  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Vintage draft at the 2014 World Championship on: October 25, 2014, 04:01:12 am
It looks like there will be three rounds of Vintage draft during the 2014 World Championship in December:

http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/2014-world-championship-format-change-2014-10-24

The relevant text in the article:

"On Day One, players will compete in three rounds of real-life Vintage Masters Booster Draft followed by four rounds of Modern. Vintage Masters booster packs will be generated on Magic Online and physically re-constructed for this event."
3  Eternal Formats / Europe / Re: Prague Eternal Vol 2 7.-9.11.2014 on: September 18, 2014, 07:59:14 am
This looks interesting. I might be there since I only live 4 hours away from Prague at the moment.
4  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Grislebrand's Birthday.dec on: November 25, 2013, 07:59:32 am
but the creature only shows up to wave, can't attack even if it has haste, and then pops back into your hand

If you play Personal Deployment during your beginning of combat step (before declare attackers), it should be possible to attack with the creature if it has haste.

This might not be that relevant, though, since there aren't that many interesting creatures with haste.
5  Eternal Formats / Europe / Re: BoM 7 LIVE COVERAGE on: May 12, 2013, 03:39:33 pm
Bug won g2. Who was on the play game one?

If I remember correctly it was MUD.

So BUG won BoM, congrats! The shop player's seven didn't look very intimidating with Chalice turn 1 and just a Wire turn 2.
6  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Dragon's Maze on: April 22, 2013, 11:51:50 am
New spider has pro blue, so it blocks inky like a champ and cannot be bounced.  Thornweald archer is more like removal, and you still take trample.

Although Inkwell will trample over this little fellow as well.

Why?  Damage dealt to a creature with protection from that color is reduced to zero, I thought.

As I understand it you have to assign lethal to the blocker (2 damage) and the rest is trampled over to the player. Then the spider will not die due to protection. So you would still take 5.

8  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Old frame cards on: April 08, 2013, 11:47:40 am
I've been trying to draw interest in playing a format where you can only use cards printed before the new frame (reprints with the new frame would be legal).  The argument that I always get is that it would never change since the card pool would always be the same but I think it would still be a lot of fun.

If I remember correctly some people played this format in Sweden and called it pre-Modern.

A challenge as you say is that the card pool does not change, but one can at least control the format via restrictions and bannings. One option is also to start with a few blocks and then as time goes by allow more and more blocks (still need to have the old frame of course).
9  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Bazaar of Baghdad in anything other than dredge on: March 14, 2013, 01:11:54 pm
I've also seen Bazaar of Baghdad being used together with Goblin Welder in Two-Card Monte lists, such as in the following link:
http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=44689.msg613351#msg613351

Two-Card Monte is a very interesting deck in my opinion and there are many times I've wanted to sleeve it up for a tournament, but never really got to it.
10  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: LCV 2013 - February - 48 Players - Results + Decklists on: March 03, 2013, 01:47:54 pm
As always thanks for posting the lists from these tournaments; it is much appreciated.

Jordi's UW RIP list looks very interesting and quite innovative.

Some interesting lists from this tournament. Is it true that there were 10 players, 5 rounds + top 8?
12  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: [Deck Primer]: Christmas Beatings on: November 02, 2011, 01:41:46 pm
Deglamer is also a good solution to BSC and to this deck's other main nemesis, Oath. Looking forward to any new ideas regarding this deck since it is one of my all-time favorites.
13  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: What is the coolest thing a wizard could do in a fantasy novel? on: October 20, 2011, 11:23:49 am
Some random proposals:
* Thunderstorm with lightning striking furiously down onto the battlefield
* Wall of fire out of which one can summon huge dragons made of fire
* Sinkholes that bury the combatants
* Earthquake
* Fissures/chasms opening in the ground and swallowing the screaming soldiers
* Explosions
* Eclipse (not that dangerous but might fuel some wizard's powers)

Rune-Scarred Demon 5BB
Creature - Demon (R)
Flying
When Rune-Scarred Demon enters the battlefield, search your library for a card, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.

Quarter-finals ongoing. One of my fellow Swedes managed to take a spot in the top 8 so take it home now!

It's like waiting for Christmas gifts until we get the top 8 decklists posted.
16  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Phyrexian Metamorph on: April 19, 2011, 12:53:19 am
The release card for New Phyrexia, a pretty interesting alternative to Sculpting Steel.
I'd say the additional cost in life is worth the additional option of copying a creature.

17  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: ernageddon on: July 08, 2010, 05:42:58 am
Thanks for the interesting reading. In Sweden we have a format called 93/94 which is a bit similar to that you were playing with. In 93/94 only cards from Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends and The Dark are permitted. No reprints (such as duals from Revised) or foreign cards (such as Italian Mana Drains). We play with the new rules and use the Vintage restricted list, with a few additions.

I have not played it yet but plan on building Erhnamgeddon  Wink

We have had some smaller tournaments already and it is nice to see decks such as Stasis, Black with Juzams, Red-Green-Blue aggro, White Weenie and The Deck. Kinda makes you feel like it's the early Magic days again.
18  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Terastodon Oath on: May 04, 2010, 07:37:02 am
Since I am a player who does not play that much, mostly at tournaments (there are three in the coming two weeks), could someone please elaborate on how to play Gifts Ungiven in Terastodon Oath?

Some lists include Regrowth and as I understand it you can then setup the following pile: Regrowth, Yawgmoth's Will, Time Vault, Voltaic Key.
But which are the other really good piles you can setup? For example, if you do not have Regrowth in your list or if one or more of the cards in the example above are not in your library.
19  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Summoning Trap on: September 23, 2009, 03:11:59 am
The card will also be good against opponents who try to lock you down with Chalice of the Void.
20  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [results] CVL 9th tournament top8 on: September 17, 2009, 05:30:55 am
Thanks for posting the results. The mono blue Tezzeret list continues to deliver results, should try it out someday.
21  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Ongoing SCG Chicago Results on: November 12, 2007, 04:38:10 am
Congratz to the win day 1 chief and thanks for posting the decklist!

That is a really interesting list, and quite different from the one you played earlier. Myself being an RG player for a long time in Sweden, it would be interesting to read a report (matchups, plays, etc.) and some about the new cards (e.g. Skullclamp and Aether Vial). It seems that ichorid would be a really tough matchup but that deck is less played nowadays (?).
22  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: SCG Indianapolis Updates on: September 25, 2007, 09:15:44 am
Will more decklists than the Top 8 be posted? I would like to see that RG list on 10th place, and a few others as well.

/Dan

Congratulations to a good finish with an interesting deck.

RG Beats vs Goblins in the finals?
It would be interesting to see a list of that RG Beats deck. Do you know who played it?
24  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Untouchables March 24th: Beta Recall (3rd) on: April 02, 2007, 02:37:59 pm
Good report and a really interesting deck. Congratz to the top4 as well.

It would be interesting to see a list of that UR landstill deck.
25  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Burning Belcher on: April 02, 2007, 01:54:14 pm
Why Chromatic Sphere instead of Chromatic Star?

I agree with you on the removal of Channel and Chrome Mox from the list. Channel is powerful, but it is often difficult to find green mana to cast it.
26  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: R/G Beatz - viable or not on: January 24, 2007, 04:42:40 pm
We shouldn't forget Tin Street Hooligan, it's really great when it comes to destroying moxen, titans, etc. I always play 3-4 TSH in my RG builds.

So what do you guys think of Keen Sense from Planar Chaos? Will it be an auto-include in RG?
27  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: R/G Beatz - viable or not on: January 24, 2007, 04:24:46 pm
The best solution to DSC in my opinion is Goblin Welder. Artifact Mutation is also nice, and it also works great against Sundering Titan.

Another card from Planar Chaos that can take care of DSC is Dead // Gone.

Keen Sense also has potential in RG =)

All in all, I think Planar Chaos will improve RG quite a bit. Perhaps not to tier1 Wink
28  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Vintage Zoo on: December 13, 2006, 03:04:47 pm
@Mith: What does your sideboard look like? Must say that your MD looks interesting.

I've been playing RG beats a lot and this is my current list:

Maindeck

4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Tin Street Hooligan
4 Wild Mongrel
3 Goblin Welder

3 Hidden Guerillas
3 Hidden Gibbons
3 Hidden Herd
3 Artifact Mutation
4 Root Maze
3 Pyrostatic Pillar
3 Tormod's Crypt

1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Ruby

4 Taiga
3 Stomping Ground
4 Wooded Foothills
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
2 Forest
2 Mountain

Sideboard (constantly changing depending on meta)

4 Maze of Ith
4 Krosan Grip
4 Pyroclasm
3 Sudden Shock

Unfortunately the vintage scene is very small where I live so I don't get to test my deck(s) a lot  Sad
29  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] RG Beatz on: September 15, 2006, 10:58:36 am
I'm new to this forum, and I've always loved playing R/G Beatz.

Well, I played a version that did quite well in Sweden, but it constantly had problems with Darksteel Colossus and Oath decks. It had good matchups versus Stax (Artifact Mutation rocks) & Fish and decent against Slaver.

Like somebody else said R/G Beatz is a meta deck, and if there are a lot of DS out there, I would consider playing Welder maindeck.

Hidden Herd could be a card to strengthen the mana denial in the deck (Root Maze, Null Rod, Gorilla Shaman/TSH, Wasteland, Strip). Hidden Guerillas could be played as well, but it's not that good if your opponent starts.

Then I will certainly play Krosan Grip (Time Spiral) in SB, probably substituting Naturalize. Important to destroy Oath and other annoying artifacts/enchantments (like Platinum Angel which is another bid trouble for the deck).

Burning-Tree Shaman is a bit expensive to play, but amazing against Dragon.
