1  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Winning the M0n13s with DredgeATog at GenCon SoCal 40 Duals on: November 28, 2005, 04:05:56 am
Excuse my stupidity, but why the snow-covered island? Congratulations btw!
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Article] The SCG Guide to Vintage 5 Proxy Decks on: February 21, 2005, 06:57:22 am
Writing articles on request, a nice way to score maximum points. A good read. Now, only to find someone who wants to organize a 5 proxy tournament in this area...

I had skipped the article, I didn't recognize your name. But after your encouragement, I read it. Enjoyable.
One point of interest though: what's your audience? If you're writing this for people who have a "lack of competency" but do own all those cards (meaning, P9, workshops, bazaars), my guess is that that's a pretty small audience. Wouldn't people read up before they shell out all that money? But then again, there are proxy tournaments. If you're writing this for people who're still playing stompy or suicide, wouldn't these people be better served with an article on what deck to build with just 5 proxies?

On another note, there is a heated debate going on about Crucible of Worlds being too powerful because it can go in any deck and create a soft lock with strip effects. I was working on my own version of this deck recently, and I wondered: Could Crucible of Worlds work well in this deck like they say?

Blood moon is good against the soft lock you describe. So that alone might make blood moon worth running. If your mana base can handle it, that is. So it fits into r/g really good.
The crucible lock is good, but it needs other cards (strips, fastbond, zuran orb) to function, where blood moon does not. And blood moon is an enchantment, where crucible might get hit by "splash damage".

The nice thing is that official rules support might lead to more official support in the future. Mulitplayer GP? Sounds nice.

Maybe you could add some extra land destruction to slow combo down? Nightscape Battlemage fits the theme, dwarven miner seems good too. Instead of the battlemages you could look into morph creatures with morph triggers.

You need a permanent mana source to go off (unless you're making tokens with caller of the claw). So you need to play a land, mox, sol ring or mana crypt. Bazaar competes with the land drop as well. I've proxied a lotus, but I kept saying "why isn't this a mox?".
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Casual UBR Reanimator deck - Help cutting it down to 60 on: June 09, 2004, 04:36:06 am
When you're not running the WGD combo, maybe you should run reanimate instead of animate dead.
Besides that, you have to follow a certain strategy in picking your reanimation targets. In extended and type 2, one of the reasons why reanimator was good was because of the versatility of it's reanimation targets. Your targets seem mainly aimed at beatdown. If you go and check the starcitygames archive you could find many articles on this archetype.

Okay, those are on extended and type 2 only, but your deck looks more like an updated extended deck than a "real" type 1 deck (nothing wrong with that, it's casual isn't it?). I won't summarize all of it for you, but I'll say this: at least you need either verdant force or symbiotic wurm to overcome diabolic edict.

And pray that your opponents don't discover gilded drake. Or tormod's crypt.

This might be like stating the obvious, but if you're running the V.D., throw in a couple of tombstone stairwells. Patriarch's bidding can be an awesome finisher as well.

Oh.

If you throw in the stairwell, you might want to reconsider running the wretched anurid.
