1  Eternal Formats / Creative / [deck] cerebral assassin much? on: November 22, 2004, 04:28:05 pm
Sounds like you are trying to turn it into a completely different deck.

I sense a locking commencing.
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Article] A Look At The Remaining Chaff On The Restricted Li on: November 18, 2004, 01:03:54 am
As far as the cards listed specifically in the article I dont see there being any drastic changes by making them unrestricted. None of them seem to do anything to enhance the powerful decktypes that exist already or would create new ones that would be vastly superior. Im sure there could be cases made for spiral, but I'm just not seeing it.

Definately a good read. It is always a pleasure to read reports that are well written. Congrats on the t4.

Twister would be good except that it would just shuffle back the opposing cards I was looking to get rid of. I would almost run feldons cane over that.

Digger is definately an option. Ill have to try that out.

thanks.

I needed a way to reuse spells. Specifically strip mine, or disenchants. But it was also useful to get back demonic tutor, ancestral, time walk, balance or swords.

Quick update on the deck. So far I have only lost one game with it. Have mostly just been playing against other control decks. Library and mindtwist has been the key. What a shocker.....

I did cut one braingeyser for a recall. Most people probably dissagree. But 3 geysers has been a bit much. I rarely want to tap down that much mana main phase. Even after a drain. As mentioned I have been playing against a lot of control.

Manabase has been working great. Its been wierd trying to win games with serra angel. feels very old school. Im so used to morphling or exalted angel.

Any other suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Any ideas for a good black deck? on: September 14, 2004, 11:21:27 pm

thank you. That should give me something to start testing with. If anyone has any ideas for other decks using those same restrictions be sure to jump right in.

I definately like the look of that list better. I totally forgot about braingeyser being unrestricted.

Any thoughts on losing red and green from the deck? I will lose regrowth and reb/pyro from the board.

How about the following changes?

-2 J Tomb
-1 Recall
-1 Helm
-1 Mirror

+4 Brainstorm
+1 Sylvan Library

-1 Tundra
-1 Volcanic Island

+2 Mirage fetch or thaws?

the land base is pretty tricky without the good fetches. I had considered cutting out red and green entirely to smooth things out. Any thoughts on that? Would allow me to run thaw easier, along with outpost or options of that nature.

The situation is basically this. My roomate has a mono blue control deck built using the t1 banned and restricted list but with the exception that nothing in the deck can be from any sets newer than mirage. His deck is powered and all the cards are either beta, signed, both, etc. There is a group developing that is building decks based on this same formula.

I am looking to build an old style version of Weissman's "The Deck"

for reference here is one of the newer lists of his deck.

4 Mana Drain
2 Counterspell
1 Force of Will
4 Mystical Tutor ( is now restricted )
1 Time Walk
1 Timetwister
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Braingeyser
1 Recall
1 Amnesia
3 Disenchant
3 Swords to Plowshares
1 Balance

1 The Abyss
1 Demonic Tutor

1 Regrowth

2 Fireball
2 Jayemdae Tome
1 Mirror Universe
5 Moxen
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring

4 Strip Mine ( also now restricted )
1 Library of Alexandria
4 City of Brass
3 Volcanic Island
4 Tundra
1 Plains
4 Island

Any suggestions on a 4-5 color deck based off this skeleton?

This is what I have been toying with.

4 Mana Drain
4 Force of Will
2 Counterspell
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Braingeyser
1 Recall
1 Merchant Scroll

2 Disenchant
3 Swords to Plowshares
1 Balance
2 Serra Angel

1 The Abyss
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Mind Twist

1 Regrowth

2 Jayemdae Tome
1 Helm of Obedience
1 Mirror Universe
5 Moxen
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring

1 Strip Mine
1 Library of Alexandria
4 City of Brass
3 Underground Sea
3 Volcanic Island
4 Tundra
1 Plains
4 Island

Thoughts or suggestions? Its tricky to build because there are so many cards I wish I could play. will, fact, fetches, wishes, etc etc.

Sideboard will be built at a later time. Will definately include red blasts and gorilla shaman. Hence the Volcanic islands remaining main.

13  Eternal Formats / Creative / sigil of sleep VS. curiosty in fish on: August 30, 2004, 01:55:39 pm
Definately curiosity. Leave the sigil to the board. Most of us around here tend to like drawing cards.
14  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Gencon (Worlds) Top Eight Lists on: August 26, 2004, 02:32:19 am
Any chance of the listings for top 16? It seems the most interesting action was with the decks that just barely missed t8.
