Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Premium Article] Insider Trading - Are Proxies Hurting Vintage Tournament Atten

I agree with a lot that Smmenen has mentioned. I have full power, and hate proxing stuff, thus i never get to play Workshop decks. I do pride myself in my deck, and like the fact i can play Sanctioned t1.
Yes, T1 is a little elitist because of that pride, but then again that gives people something to strive for. T1 is a interesting group of players, mostly older, more mature, and even proud group of people. We worked hard to get to play a format many don't. I'll never get to play a pro-tour but I can enter a sanctioned T1 with a fully powered deck, and i'm proud of that achievement.
as a weird side not. i did a SCG T1deck database search for the last year. of the 5 first place decks, 4 of the 5 had exactly 10 cards valued at 75 or more. 1 deck had only 3 power cards in it. Found that kind of interesting, would be curious to know what cards are proxied in SCG top 8 decks.
I also own zero Tramagoyfs, but am buying a Time Vault since i don't have one.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Premium Article] So Many Insane Plays - The Trouble with Shahrazad

sadly i don't have a SCG premium account to read the article, but i have played a shahrazad deck in T1 tournament. No one has ever complained. Most thought its was a clever deck. it was W/R winnie burn that used Shaz as a WW burn spell. now this was pre 2007 rules change, where crypting their graveyard in a sub game could kill many decks. in won a few, lost a few, and was fun to play. Tier 1 no. did it disrupt tournaments, no. Did i dump down to a 3rd sub game once, yes. Do i think it should be unbanned. Yes.

- Brainstorm / Ponder : let draw cards to find bombs => restrict
What more can the DCI say ?
why cards like Impulse and Sleight of Hand, which are as good if not better then ponder where not restricted too? Ponder makes one think they are just throwing darts at a wall when it comes to these restrictions. Even flash people thought was kind of stupid since it wasn't an all dominate deck. i my self was very insulted reading that, after waiting all week hoping to hear their well thought out decisions on the restrictions.

To be fair, it's not really worth considering most people's strategic reaction to having a card played against them as the primary reason for banning or restriction. I mean sure, most people concede the subgame and take 10. It's not mandatory to do so, except in the interest of speeding up the match for the sake of the Clock. It's like saying Fact or Fiction should be banned in Legacy because the possibility of a 5 - 0 split exists, and draw 5s are broken.
Your analogy is incorrect. Fact or Fiction presents the opponent with entirely in-game considerations. Because Shahrazad makes the opponent consider the clock, which should have no bearing on play decisions, it is harmful to competitive Magic. (It is irrelevant how frequently it is played because every time it is played, the person playing against it must consider the time remaining in the round when determining how to deal with it.) Plain and simple: Shahrazad makes relevant something that should not be relevant. Banned. people concede games due to time all the time. the clock is part of tournament magic, and sharhazad isn't the first deck that has caused people to concede due to time. I guess every infinite life combo is going to get banned too. I really would like to know more about what organizers were complaining, or when this card ever became an issue?

I'm really annoyed by the Shahrazad banning. I know most people don't care but i do have a T1 Shahrazad that was fun to play. and on a lesser note I have 5 Shahrazad that just died in value. A it wasn't that big of deal it was played so rarely. B. it was a fun deck to play (my brother played my R/W Rush Shahrazad deck at the PAX T1 tournment), using Shahrazad as a 10point or 5point lighting bolt. C. really are T1 decks worried about Shahrazad stalling a game out? you know you can CONCEDE a sub game at any point. that was half of the Strat for my R/W deck. since if you crypt them in a sub game they lose those cards in the main game. With luck that would get them to concede and youg et a 10point life swing, few lighting bolts later you win. D. it sounds like Legacy need the banning not Vintage. and E lastly "the Organized Play department requested that Shahrazad be banned from tournament play for logistical reasons" seriously other then Gen-Con has Organized play cared that much about T1? Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Proxies allowed at non-proxy tourneys?
|
on: October 06, 2004, 01:40:54 am

1)A card at a limited event comes out of the pack miscut or damaged in such a way it would be considered marked, or
2)A card becomes significantly damaged or worn during the course of a tournament.
Just a note on the second one, they can also force you to sleave your deck insteed of proxying the card.

I think this card helps budget more then it hurts it. Madness and Food Chains still beat down hard after this since they have very dedundent builds. Dragon is screwed but not mad dragon. It also could make a budget Black build viable, if not just tier 2/3.
It also helps budget against combo, if combo doesn't go off turn 1/2.
It also gives 4cc a way to get rid of all them dame squees.

yeah i think cranial extraction could help some match ups. (if you last to cast it.)
Think of building this and testing it. Void always had a special place in my heart.
but have to put in a Crucible it replaces the missing sinkholes.

i think this could help mono black a lot
Cranial Extraction - Sorcery - Arcane Name a nonland card. Search target player's graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with that name and remove them from the game. Then that player shuffles his or her library. 105/306 Rare
With dark rituls and moxs and such this can come out screaming fast with duress backup and more or less end games for many T1 Decks. Name Dragon Vs dragon, vs tog, Angel vs 4CC. Welder vs Wokshop could give balck some breathing room. Could change the meta and force people to play 2 different wins conditions.
I could see it played in other deck too since nameing force of will, or Mana drain can cripple lots of decks.
I see a nice void deck based on this.

Just A heads up. I got the schedule from the Delegates List.
Thursday July 22 Comic-Con San Diego
NOTE: Held at Manchester Grand Hyatt - Randall Room D Next to the Convention Center 12 Noon Type 1 SANCTIONED Cost: FREE Prizes: Product.
Run By wizards it looks like.
Bad time and day i know. I wrote to them explaining how Type 1 Players are older then most, and are better at making the later games. i.e. after our day jobs.
I will not be there. I will barely make it to the con by then. and as much as i love Type 1, don't want to spend my first day there playing magic.
There is also a 1.5 on saturday at 4pm

Does it really work like that? Duplicant adopts the power and toughness of the creature imprinted- this doesn't count +1/+1 counters, but if its toughness is changed by the imprinting, is that the same situation? No it doesn't. It would be 2/4 since once it is removed from the game its 2/4 since it doesn't have anything imprinted anymore A nice tournament report, though it's a shame you didn't get to play against the Onslaught Block Beast deck. The power of Berserk Murlodont could have finally been appreciated.
That was Fridays Tournament not Saturdays. I went 3-2 with Germbus Keeper, 3 angels 1 DoJ, On Saturday. Forget all kinds of Names so sorry about it. Round 1 vs His own build of Worse then Fish, with Dryads Win game one by more or less removing every card he has in play for a few turns. Low land count and lots of strips, wins games. And he can't handle Angels. But then again no land loses games. And that’s what happens to me game 2 and 3 0-1 Round 2 vs Suicide Black Game 1 he gets 2 Slayers quick. But I drop turn 3 turn 4 morph angel which wins. Game 2 See game 1 but he has a slower start. And I have Counters. 1-1 Round 3 vs EBA I think with Dryads and Mages for kill. Game 1 I go 4 Wastelands well 5 with Yawg. He loses. Game 2 He goes Holistic wisdom on me. I almost hold out, but not for too long. He cast Recall 3 time before I can disenchant. Game 3 We go to the end. He mind twists my Doj, and I've used my Will already. I can't find a kill and he doesn't play any creatures for my kavu. I have to Cunning Wish for Vamp tutor, for Angel, play it. Play another. He plays Holistic, and top decks a Demonic tutor which he tosses to get Balance, but i top a force. And then a top a Mana Drain. And win with about 5 cards in my deck. 1 hour of pain. Last game to finish. Me Plagiarizing a Recall is the turning point. Round 4 vs Brent with Germbus. Game one. I huge counter war that he plays much better then me. Game 2 Is a looooooooooooong drawn out Mirror. Draw Go/Draw go. I say F*** it and drop the angel. He has no counter. More draw go. Some how it goes the distance. As the last game playing with 2 mins left we look at each other. We tell Pat that let just call it a draw. Pat reminds us that one of use can concede. I turn to Brent and concede on the spot no questions asked. Round 5 vs MUD with Grafted Skull caps Artifact lands Game 1. First turn Shaman, says he loses since his first lands are Artifacts and when he goes. Workshop Mox Stax, i counter. Game 2 He drops 2 Spheres and 2 Skull caps. I'm not worried as I drop lots of Rack and Ruins and more counters. Even with 3 Workshops out he is in top deck mode after I destroy all his Skullcaps.. So 3-2 (or 3-1-1) at another great Gems Type 1 Props. Brent for winning round 5 to make Top 4 Pat for Running another great event and winning his own Mox. And all 32 players for showing up. And Gems for the great new place and the extra space. Slops Me, for not playing Shahrazad See you all next time Steve Timebeing

I would also make most of the 3 ofs 4 ofs. Lots of times you will play 3 and side the 4th (say bloodmoon) Plus it always sucks, when you want 4 and only have 3.
also would add 4 of the blue and green Manlands
and a couple of wishable sideboard cards 1 Ebony Charm 1 Coffin Purge

yeah i've made blind mistakes befor. Playing Keeper i decked my self against TnT, and never thought to wish for My ebony charm and get rid of his squee. Since i had removed all my wishable enchanment hate out of the sidebaord. I think with control its all about thinking out side of the box (why i like playing it) and knowing your options, and just playing your deck a lot..

It just fun. And it reminds me of the early days of magic when i first started to play. Plus i'm older and can offard the cards now, so its a Quarter Life Crisis thing too. Plus the Meta is great right now. And there tends to be 20 different decks you play against. And since i don't get a lot of play outside of tournments i'm still learning and getting better.
