I can't really think of common situations where Void Winnower is better than Iona.
2  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [CNS] Council's judgement on: May 23, 2014, 11:32:48 pm
Yea so if they are at 3 life and have a Blightsteel and a mana crypt out, they can remove their own mana crypt. Like I said it's a pretty corner case, but it exists. In that instance it may still be better than swords to plowshares though, because they will remain at 3 life and be down a mana source.

This is a pretty big stretch to look for a drawback.  Try 3 mana sorcery.  Vindicate and pulse don't see play for a reason, they cost a lot of mana at sorcery speed for a card that can only 1 for 1 your opponent
I must be complaining about this while Blightsteel is gone. Besides, this card does work around sac the permanent in response - just vote for something else.
3  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Prophetic Flamespeaker on: April 15, 2014, 01:57:19 am
When I cast a 3 mana card I want to lock down the game (Moon effects) or get the card I want immediately (Imperial) rather than waiting for a turn.
4  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [COMM] - Identity Nemesis on: October 17, 2013, 01:21:16 am
I didn't see people playing Energy Flux for a long time, I doubt this card would be played against Workshop.

This dude kills Jace, but Clique (w/flash) probably does too, with better utility.

5  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Notion Thief on: April 20, 2013, 12:57:33 am
A painter without a stone enables all your REBs. Notion Thief+Draw 7s... It is hard to cast Draw 7s profitably these days unless you unload your hand turn 1.
6  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Notion Thief on: April 18, 2013, 01:11:50 am
Why not try a drain deck with him and a few Draw 7's?

With him out Timetwister reads Draw 14 cards, Mind Twist your opponent, Reshuffle all graveyards.  Windfall, Wheel of Fortune, same deal.  Heck with him out you can even get value out of things like Winds of Change.

He just seems like a massive beating against control but would need alot of support vs. Shops and Dredge.
If you have to play a 4 mana card and other inferior cards just to combo with it, you are better off playing Key-Vault or Painter combo instead.
7  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Biomass Mutation on: January 09, 2013, 02:58:35 am
Pretty sure it doesnt break "at the end of turn" clause.
"Until end of turn" means its effect just vanish at the end of turn. If you Gaint Growth something at the end step, it doesn't keep for the next turn, right?
8  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Karma - Japanese Gifts Ungiven on: January 07, 2013, 11:28:49 pm
Carnival of Souls + Kobolds + Skullclamp

I like the deck, fun times.
9  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: - Duskmantle Guildmage, a.k.a Darth Mill on: January 05, 2013, 09:01:13 pm
7 mana is already Donate-Illusion Territory. You may as well play Show and Tell-Griselbrand.
10  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Nightveil Specter on: January 03, 2013, 09:27:46 pm
Isn't Thada Adel better than this card?
I was once two-shot by Thada Adel, taking Key-Vault. Thada Adel is still seldom good enough to be played.
11  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Nightveil Specter on: January 03, 2013, 06:15:33 am
Preator's Grasp failed, which probably explain why nagging a card from oppo's deck isn't as good as a card from your's.

Noxious Revival cost 0. Regrowth itself is not seeing much play.

Diabolic Revelation   {X} {3} {B} {B}
Sorcery    Rare
Search your library for up to X cards and put those cards into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

While this is most likely junk, it has a unique effect that never appear on any other card printed before: Tutoring for multiple cards. It is about the cheapest one-card combo ever printed (9 mana to kill with Flash+Hulk, or 11 mana with Key+Vault). Any chance it would be playable?
15  Vintage Community Discussion / Elder Dragon Highlander Forum / Re: Scion of the Ur-Dragon, Dragon Combo on: February 24, 2012, 11:29:48 pm
moltensteel+hellkite is a good combo.
16  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: 0 land hermit on: July 07, 2011, 05:03:39 am
People clearly didn't understand my comparison of draw spells to Manamorphoses.

I would never add an extra color, but taking out 6 cards for Land Grant + Lands seems very intrusive.
This would be acceptable only if it increases your chances of getting the combo out earlier. Testing would have to prove that.

The real question is; what would you take out?
Meadbert indicates he would cut the Chancellors, but that would disintegrate your Ghoul strategy (losing the fat).
I would definitely loose the Chromatic Sphere's before the Chancellors. Also the Memory Jar seems suboptimal, but which other cards need to go too?
8 Spirit Guides+4 Hermit+4 Nacromeoba+4 Goblin Welder+Dragon Breath is 29 power already. But Chromatic Sphere probably should go first.
17  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: Fattie Oath on: January 18, 2011, 07:14:36 pm
Seems like this could be benefited by at least two copies of Dragon Breath.
18  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Cockatrice - intended as successor to MWS on: September 06, 2009, 05:50:52 am
IANAL, but there's a difference between making something legal and making something that won't cause legal trouble.  Sure, maybe a judge might find that your program does not infringe on anyone's intellectual property, but would you be willing to fight for that if WotC actually filed suit?  You might want to look over the cease and desist letter sent to magic-league.com recently, which was reposted here on mtgsalvation.  You might also talk to the people who worked on gccg, which was another open source card game player that tried real hard to avoid directly using any of WotC's IP while still letting people play Magic.

The important thing to remember is that WotC wouldn't let you play Magic online with your friends over a webcam if they thought they had any legal chance of stopping you.  Tread carefully, because, as a Mac user who has no viable legal option to play Magic Online, I'd sure love to use your program.
They registered on a German domain. How could Wotc stop that?
19  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Dear Wizards, please fix Mox Diamond on: June 23, 2008, 05:41:29 am
What does Flame Fusilade have to do with this?  The original functionality is not comboing Flame Fusilade.

The Mox Diamond errata, and Polynomial P, demonstrated, needed functionality errata update.

They are going through and restoring functionality.

It is 100% logically inconsistent to have a policy of restoring functionality on Mox Diamond and every other card they just errated, but not Time Vault.

To me the main point they have been trying to drive home (it seems to me at least) is they are removing power level errata not all errata.

That's not the main point that they have been trying to drive home.  Go read the most recent errata changes.

The absolute 100% crystal clear goal is restoring functionality.  Given the last year and half of errata, what gave you the impression otherwise (since you say "it seems to me at least")?

@ David:

I think the big difference is that we were fighting a different battle two years ago.   The fight then was to bring Time Vault back to its text.

Since it is now clear that wizards only cares about functionality, it's a whole new ball game.

EDIT: "now" incorrectly read "Not" - I fixed my post :p
The original functionality of Time Vault was Twiddle=Time Walk, which is probably an auto-ban in every format. Still it may be the best solution, compared to how many times that Time Vault was erretaed arbitrarily.
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Diffract on: April 28, 2007, 12:17:03 pm
I'm fine with this card. This card being green is already a drawback for any use in storm decks.
21  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Buyback Time Walk on: August 28, 2006, 06:33:21 am
They already made a buyback ancestral. It is called Whipser of the Muse.
22  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Number Games? on: August 27, 2006, 11:36:49 am
The engine one is broken with 0 white 0 blue. Very Happy
yes, but only if you managed to play this with very light white and blue.
As for the mana cost, I'm not sure; I used Phyrexian Arena as reference, made it multicolor, and remove the life loss and put in another restriction, so it seemed WU or 1WU is fine?
23  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Number Games? on: August 23, 2006, 07:32:21 am
It may be interesting to make cards that deals with specific numbers of resources.

24  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: If you got a free $2,000 to buy Magic cards with, what would you buy? on: March 29, 2006, 01:22:15 pm
200 fetchlands. Probably the only way I can sell them for a double within two or three years.
25  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: For Proxies, should SCG allow people to print a slip of paper in sleeve? on: January 17, 2006, 02:19:31 pm
One of the places I played provide high quality proxy created with a printer. It looks really nice and sometimes it just looks real if you don't look at it carefully  Mr. Green
26  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Equivalent Exchange on: November 30, 2005, 10:18:38 pm
This is too good, a lot more powerful than Armageddon.

Also, this is not Equivalent Exchange in Full Metal Alchemist. Equivalent Exchange says you sacrifice something to get something in the same value, not destruction of others.  Mr. Green
27  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Dark Ritual, in a green way on: November 25, 2005, 05:45:55 am
Ephraim, thanks for names suggestion.
As far as the interaction with Eternal Witness, its black companion Priest of Gix was more brutal, and a turn 1 Troll Ascetic is not Hyppie or Negator, so I hope it is fine.

Sorcery
Put a green creature card with converted mana cost 3 or less from your hand into play.

Dark Ritual has been widely deemed broken in combo decks. How about a Dark Ritual redo, in green's flavor, that is not abusable (or hopefully) and quite playable?

Current Wording:
Chrysanthemum Festival
G
Sorcery
Put a green creature card with converted mana cost 3 or less from your hand into play.
29  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Hall of Mindplayers on: October 17, 2005, 09:59:56 am
Hall of Mindplayers
Land
T: Choose a number X. An opponent names up to X cards. Add X mana of any color to your mana pool. This mana can't be used to play spells or activated abilites of the named cards.

An attempt to fix Ancient Tomb, but still worry about being abused. How about just setting X=2? Allowing higher seems abusable when you can get away with six cards that cost 4 or 5.

Current wording:

Hall of Mindplayers
Land
T: An opponent names up to 2 cards. Add 2 mana of any color to your mana pool. This mana can't be used to play spells or activated abilites of the named cards.

Your need the clause "if you do" to avoid targeting the same card again and again.
