Have you considered Faerie Macabre a singleton for Imperial Recruiter to grab?
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [article] WGDX vs GAT on: November 01, 2007, 01:10:27 pm
I think this is right - anyone with some more experience please correct me.

1) Enchant Dragon with an aura. The Dragon CIP removes all permanents you control from the game. As a result, Dragon goes back to your graveyard because it is no longer enchanted. All your permanents come back into play, untapped. The aura looks for a target, and you choose Worldgorger Dragon. The loop repeats. You can now have lots of mana floating in your pool. You  can now either activate Bazaar a lot or cast Read the Runes for a lot. Both methods dump your library into your graveyard.

2) At the point in the loop where the Aura looks for a target, enchant Eternal Witness instead. This stops the loop. With the CIP trigger of Witness, return an Aura to your hand.

3) Play the aura, targeting Worldgorger Dragon. The loop begins again.

4) Every time Witness comes back into play (after being blinked by the Dragon Comes Into Play/Leaves Play triggers), return a card from your graveyard to your hand. If it's an Instant, you can play it whenever (i.e. Ancestral Recall, Cunning Wish, Stroke of Genuis). You essentially now have all relevant cards in your library in your hand. If you want to play a sorcery, move to step 5.

5) With Aura targeting Worldgorger Dragon on the stack, resolve the Witness CIP trigger and return the targeted Worldgorger Dragon to your hand. The Aura will have no target and will be put into the graveyard. The loop stops. Play any Sorceries you want (i.e. Duress). To start the loop again, go to step 6.

6) Discard the Dragon somehow. Play an Aura (that you had returned with Witness sometime in step 4) targeting Worldgorger Dragon. The loop starts again with Witness CIP triggers.

So you Ancestral the opponent once. You then stop the loop and Duress 3 times (Forcing any threats). Rinse and repeat until you have milled your opponent. Or, you return Cunning Wish (if you haven't played it already) and go for Stroke of Genius.

So, I decided to add the fourth color, Green, for Worldly Tutor, and figured that if I’m running Green, I might as well just run Tarmogoyf.

Awesome format we have.  Smile

Congrats, though.

So in Coldsnap, we got Rite of Flame. For reference:

Rite of Flame
R
Sorcery
Add RR to your mana pool, then add R to your mana pool for
each card named Rite of Flame in each graveyard.

I think this idea could be expanded to a cycle. I thought it would be cute if all the names sounded similar to each other, so here goes:

Rite of Maim
B
Sorcery
Target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn, then that creature gets -1/-1 for
each card named Rite of Maim in each graveyard.

Rite of Aim
W
Sorcery
Target creature gets +2/+0 and first strike until end of turn, then that creature gets
+1/+0 for each card named Rite of Aim in each graveyard.

Rite of Shame
U
Sorcery
Return target creature to its owner's hand, then return another target creature to its owner's
hand for each card named Rite of Shame in each gravyard.

Right of Claim
G
Sorcery
Search your library for up to two basic land cards, reveal them, then put a land card from your hand
into play for each card named Rite of Claim in each graveyard.

Does the effect match the cost fairly? Does the effect match the color well? Are there better names? (I'm not sure if Maim can be used as a noun)

I think it would be cool if the Sphinx gained attributes by being in the presence of diiferent creature types, not necessarily all 3 at the same time. Controlling a Wizard would give it Curiosity, controlling a Dwarf would give it first strike (or something), etc.

Dragon Mage? It does the exact same thing upon combat damage.

What if the "lose the game clause" was kept, but was something like getting Hellbent or Threshold (a little bit easier) or some other gamestate? If the card is ridiculously broken and beyond repair, then I have no qualms about this being locked and going back to the drawing board.

I'm sure we're all familiar with the new Pact cycle from Future Sight. 0cc spell that requires payment upon upkeep. What if you had to pay something other than mana?

Vampiric Pact
0
Instant
Search your library for a card, then shuffle your library and put that card on top of it. You lose 2 life.
At the beginning of your next upkeep, shuffle your library. If you don't, you lose the game.

I know it's pretty nuts with Brainstorm (U, pay 2 life: Demonic Tutor). I'm just trying to create a Pact (or Pacts) that require payment to "undo" the spell. Like casting the spell disrupts equilibrium, and the payment creates equilibrium again.

Does this idea make sense? Is it interesting design space? What effects are fair, and how can those effects be "undone"?

Updated card:
Name
B
Sorcery
Search your library for a card, then shuffle your library and put that card on top of it. You lose 2 life.
At the beginning of your next upkeep, shuffle your library.
