1) Overly strict. Seconded.
2) Not familiar with vintage cards.
3) Not familiar with rulings concerning vintage cards. (Dredging, Mana Drain, etc).
4) Contradictory statements. (At one point, I heard the judge say that he could not give out warnings because it was just a local tournament.) Well, if that's the case, why should we pay attention to anything you say?
While I will not apologize for
being 'overly strict', which I do not believe I was
; perhaps
it was a presentation issue. My style of judging is quite different from others you may know and that is fine
; it just takes some time to get used to. I know the vintage cards and interactions quite well, actually. Believe it or not I often play vintage and legacy formats when I have the chance. As you may note, while I do not frequently post comments, I do read the forums quite a bit. This is neither the first nor the last time I will judge a vintage tournament. Granted I do and have made mistakes, but that is a part of being human. As for contradictory statements, I do believe you are misinterpreting the meaning of what I said. You should listen to what any judge has to say, because that is
important for them to perform their appointed task. They are there as neutral arbiters of the event, to maintain
its integrity and uphold the funness factor, etc. I do really take the job seriously, while it is something that I do for fun. Oh, and as a side note, I really did just misinterpret the question about the dredge cards and the yard. From the original information I got
, the cards were already in the yard, if you really want
to asses blame it would go t
o you (plural) as the players for not clearly explicating the situation. It was just an honest mistake though
; they do happen even to judges, he, he. Hope this does not seem like a rant, he, he. I did have lots of fun and hope to see you all at the next event, thanks for coming out!
Hello, and welcome to TMD. We're glad you make yourself available to judge Vintage events, and we appreciate you handling yourself with maturity in this thread when a number of other regular posters have trouble doing the same. That said, it was difficult to read and understand your laudably calm and level-headed response on the first try. I've highlighted some of the problems in red bold, and had to delete some confusing unnecessary punctuation in other places. Please try to ensure your posts are easy to read and understand going forward, in accordance with the site rules. -DA
