Cutting the merchant scroll may result in problems with me finding bounce, but honestly I haven't had to bounce too much lately.  You have so many options post board that you have a lot of answers for what ever you may come across.\

Then why not just cut the bounce?

Crop rotation is never a bad card, and I would definetly play one if I wanted to run a mishras factory, but for me right now it just doesnt do enough.  Thats all.  The fifth orchard is nice, but without orchard I only have 2 ways to play it anyways(trop, and emerald).

Not counting fetch ofc!

If you sit there holding negate mana online for ages against DT or TPS, you are going to loose.

You wouldn't make turn 1 oath with fow backup vs DT? That's insane!

@hvndr3d y34r h3x:

Why do you answer questions I never ask?

Crop rotation DOES act as the 5th orchard = faster oath activation. In addition it also finds strip which is gg, if combined with loam against some decks.

Although I agree chalice is a very strong disruption card, I just don't see why you keep pointing that out Very Happy

from wizards.com:

As a special preview, Hellkite Overlord won’t be legal in Standard until the release of Shards of Alara on October 3, but in the meantime, as a printed Magic card, it will be legal in Legacy and Vintage starting on August 29, 2008.

@Suicideking:

Cutting the merchant scroll means you will only run 2 tutors, won't the single bounce spell be too random then?

Doesn't crop rotation also help you power out a fast Oath (activation)? At least vs creatureless decks?

No, I'm not joking. Its a pretty similar shell, I'd assume he doesn't run mystical for the same reason no one else has ever successfully played in a chalice oath (seems logical I'd say). Also, note the he mentioned an intent to cut scroll form his list (a conclusion I also came to after the tourny with my more traditional list), perhaps because it didn't find anything that useful.
I really don't understand your comment about "even when bs was a 4x..." I played oath religiously previous to the gush meta, and the top 8 list still never ran mystical for the reason I've mentioned.

My point was that running some number of cmc1 cards, doesn't hinder you from playing chalice in the same deck. As said, the list also contains thoughtseize, so adding 1 extra card with this cost wouldn't shut down the deck. It also seems like chalice @ 0 is much more likely to hit play with this build.

I'd assume challice of the void @1, and mystical doesn't really find anything that good most of the time.

Joke? The list also runs thoughtseize, ponder and brainstorm. Even when brainstorm was 4 of you played chalice in oath. Mystical finds everything scroll does + more..

Anyway, I'd much rather hear the reasoning from the creator himself, since he is the only one who can explain the card choices Smile

I am pretty sure he means merchant scroll.

@Suicideking:

The deck looks amazing, good job. I know you said you've tried everything, but could you please explain the reason why you don't run crop rotation, loam, null rod and mystical tutor?
8  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] Interview w/Nick Calcaterra-Vintage World Championships *4th* on: August 24, 2007, 02:30:02 am
I would also like to point out that a player has the opportunity to cut his own deck once after his opponent has shuffled it (which I always do).

I wasn't aware of that. Are you sure it's 100% legal?
9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: My interview with Nick Calcaterra-Vintage World Championships*4th* on: August 23, 2007, 12:06:06 pm
I don't know if Nick Calcaterra posts around here, but I would like to hear (from anybody) why Nether Shadow is slower than Dryad Arbor.

If you don't have Dryad in your opening hand or draw it the first time you tap Bazaar, then it's dead weight game 1. Secondly, it does NOT allow you to play Emerald Charm right away, which seems a bit slow too me.

But then again, I am no pro. I would just like some in depth info.
10  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Aluren question on: July 22, 2007, 07:24:14 pm
Okay, thank you both.

So, let's say all 3 comes-into-play abilities are on the stack, it would go like this:

I pass priority, he does nothing, Ghitu's ability resolves. I pass priority, he does nothing, Dream Stalker's ability resolves. I pass priority, he does nothing, Harpy's abilty resolves. Right?

Another question. Let's say Ghitu's ability resolves, can I then respond to Dream Stalker's ability again?
11  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Aluren question on: July 22, 2007, 05:01:34 pm
I have Aluren in play.

Can I play Cavern Harpy, pass priority, he does nothing, it resolves, it's ability goes on the stack, then in respons to it's abilty cast Dream Stalker, pass priority again, he does nothing, it resolves, it's ability goes on the stack as well, then in respons to both comes-into-play abilities on the stack play Ghitu Slinger, pass priority, he does nothing, it resolves, it's ability goes on the stack, Slinger's ability shoots my opponent for 2, Dream Stalker's ability returns my Slinger to hand, Harpy's ability returns Dream Stalker to hand, without my opponent being able to respond to any of the 3 abilities when he lets Ghitu Slinger resolve and passes his priority or does he get priority every time a comes-into-play abilty goes on the stack?

Thanks in advance.
