1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Changed my mine... URBana Fish ! on: February 12, 2008, 03:09:52 pm
17 crits look solid. I'd mix fanatics with lavamancers or other fun 1st turn drops like shadow guildmage (Die Bob! Die...). Keep people guessing and throw them off balance. With the addition of Tarmogoyfs in opposing decks, I bring some stingscourgers in sideboard. FTKs (most of the times) fail to kill a fat goyf. Spell snare is definitely good for countering these specific threats.

But Fish decks, including urbana, are metagaming decks IMO. 3 REB main deck may be a metagaing choice... So telling us your meta will help us help you Wink

Hope that helps.

I'm a landstill fan, and this is just a brainstorming idea... Has anybody experimented with green? Either as a third color splash or to give this deck a beatdown flavor perhaps?

To be honest, I'm not really fond of UWLS. I like UBLS and URLS but has played them for quite some time and now I'm kinda bored, so I'm looking for some crazy/weird/wacky ideas here...

Greetings Tiki Wlker:
Could you please send me your favorite build of urbana fish (the full list)?

I tried testing with 4 Fanatics, 4 Bobs, 3 Gorilla shamans, 4 Ninjas. and I still find that I often lack 1st turn drops. Maybe I'm still not used to this archetype yet...

How do you think this deck handles itself against gush based decks?

@ Adan: Sorry, I'm allowed proxies so I kinda forgot... My bad...
Pity that counterbalance didn't work the way we expected.

Wow, a champ ur landstill! A rather radical build, too... Very Happy
No mass removal like disk and engineered explosives, no mana drain... It sports 4 stifles and 2 trickbinds? Kinda harsh... But it does give massive headaches to heavy fetch users... Worth a shot.

I'm not sure about the Misdirections... What do you think? I'm thinking Manaleaks.
If we're quite sure we can successfully distrub the manaflow,we should also consider Divert.

I gotta give those null rods a try. I usually fear them. That's why I couldnt think outside the box I guess...

@ EKM Ichorid:
Interesting idea about trinket mages, a Hybrid of CS & Bomber... May I see your decklist that you use them in? Or at least what do you get rid of when you bring them in...

Landstill is a powerful archetype, but it i agree that this is not the best time to play it. It's particularly strong against creature based decks like fishes or TMWA. I personally didint' find much trouble in handling moon decks. I usually got beaten by gush based decks though...

@ Adan: I still think a couple of mox and a lotus helps a great deal. but dont use the off-colored ones. I use manaleaks and spellsnares. I find the moxen helps defend against early drops. Makes you less dependent on FoW. Just my two cents though...
and please tell me ho CB works after you tested it. I'm really curious...

I'm new to this thread, but I'm quite interested in this kind of deck and plan to build one.

My primary question to you all is:
How many colors, and hence fetch & dual lands, should this deck sport for optimum stability, versatility, and strength?

Here's why I asked:
1. My environment is kinda full of hate decks (especially graveyard hate)
2. I know that more duals increase your play options, but decrease stability
3. Wastelands are quite abundant where I play

So, please tell me what you guys think.

Thanks

Here's a deck I tinkered with about a month ago, not ubw, but just ub. It's actually an upgrade of a legacy deck. I find color variety seriously destabilize a deck of this archetype, so I avoided ading a third color. But I'd like a second opinion...

1 Ancestral Recall
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Echoing Truth
4 Standstill
4 Impulse
1 Gifts Ungiven
4 FoW
4 Manadrain
3 Spellsnare
2 Engineered Plague
3 Extirpate
2 Haunting Echoes
2 Engineered Explosives
2 Nevinyrral's Disk
2 Crucible of Worlds

1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Saphire
1 Lotus Petal
4 Mishra's Factory
2 Polluted Delta
2 Flooded Strands
3 Underground Sea
1 Strip Mine
3 Wastelands
1 Academy Ruins
1 Library of Alexandria
3 Island
1 Swamp

SB:
3 Massacre
3 Duress
3 Tormod's Crypt
3 Pithing Needle
3 Energy Flux

Play Strategy: take your time! Unlike other versions of LS, this deck doesn't have a broken play. Unlike URLS, it cannot barrage your opponent with burn spells, unlike UWLS, it cannot slam an insane number of soldiers into play. What this deck CAN do, is take massive amount of card advantage. If Extirpate isn't annoying enough, Echoes will do the trick. When it takes control, then your factories can finish the job.
I'd like to know your view of this deck. It was quite successful in playtesting, and got me a 3-1 in a tournament. I survived a Manaless chorid, a Stax, a hate deck, lost to Oath.
Thanks
