2  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Alleged Magic jackpot found on: March 20, 2013, 01:53:50 pm
I saw this on reddit and its fake to me but its interesting.  This person claims to have found Over $20k in cards, in a safe built into the wall of her new house.

http://www.reddit.com/r/WhatsInThisThing/comments/1aj9ty/this_thing_has_been_sitting_in_my_house_ever/

Obviously fake but weird that someone would post it.
3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Vintage and Authoritarianism on: January 17, 2013, 07:17:36 pm
The key fact that was once true remains true today: To vindicate an idea, win.

I agree.  You argued for goblins as a deck, but I was at a lot of tournaments that you played it at, and no one was concerned about playing against it.  Going 3-2 at every tournament gets you a respectable match win percentage but you almost never top8.  When you get your wins is more important then just how many you get.
4  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: strip mine? judge call on: January 09, 2013, 06:52:10 pm
I could be wrong but I think a lot of situations like this come down to the head judge of a particular event.
5  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Does anyone remember this old tournament report? on: December 21, 2012, 08:12:30 pm
That was an Eric Becker trick that he would bust out regularly.
6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: any help from someone who knows insurance on: November 08, 2012, 05:12:40 pm
My renters insurance said they would cover any theft of my cards and didnt need me to document it all.  They said it doesnt hurt but it wasnt necessary.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Murdered for Magic Cards on: October 31, 2012, 09:00:26 pm
This sucks.  Lets reprint everything so people can just play the game and not have to worry about hauling large sums of money with them.

Yeah even when pastimes guarantees their prize support they reneg on it.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: [Current] Best Team in the NFL? on: October 16, 2012, 06:37:40 pm
The Packers lost some ugly games but they just crushed Houston, should be 4-2, won a super bowl and went 15-1 in the last 2 years.  Its a bad start but they're hitting their stride. They also have the reigning MVP.  They also handled the bears.
10  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: 5-2-1 at Champs, how it almost went right on: August 27, 2012, 08:32:55 pm
I'll just say I think it was a terrible judge call.  That being said I fucked up and didn't appeal the ruling like I should have.  After the round ended, I talked to the judge again, and we talked about it with the head judge who said it was the wrong ruling.  To defend the head judge that judge was working sealed events the next round.

Tom had zero cards in hand, and only an island untapped to activate the relic.  I had no cards in my graveyard and there were zero reasons for me to be angling him for information.  I had been casting creatures and had Tom to 10 life through creature beats.  The people around the table watching told me I got screwed.  I had already got rid of some of his oaths with a cabal therapy earlier so his outs to beat me, while he ws at 10 life, with three lands, and zero cards in hand were quite limited. I had a bloodghast and stinkweed imp in play and golgari thug in had to cast.  In my opinion it was clearly my opponent fishing for a game win.

Even if my card touched the relic which was directly adjacent to the relic I announced my intended target.  Nothing had advanced in terms of the game and seeing as he had no cards in hand I had no reason to provoke a reaction.  Really what advantage would I have gained from knowing that if I targeted relic, he would use his one untapped land to pop it.

I've played magic for a long time and I've never heard anyone accuse me of playing deceptively and I'd like it to stay that way.  But it happened and I'm over it.  I still finished 6-2 and took 12th place.  If Tom feels comfortable winning games like that, cool.  I've won a lot of power and I never even think to make those judge calls.

I'd also like to point out that I've probably played more matches with oath then anyone on these boards, so I'm familiar enough with the deck to know to destroy the oaths.

One more thing.

"As I said before, my concern was that he was trying to game me into popping my Relic AND losing my Oath of Druids, which is why I called the judge. He easily could have just drawn a Bazaar and intended to go off with Dread Return and Zealot to kill me on the spot, while protecting himself from Force of Will by getting the 2 for 1. I don't know James at all, so I was protecting myself."

If i had drawn bazaar and had a spell to destroy your relic, wouldn't I want to play the bazaar so I could activate on my upkeep?  This lets me try to get a dredge out of my draw step.

I agree.  I didnt hear anyone talking about getting shit stolen and the security for the big events was great.  Pastimes did a good job at delivering on the better security they promised.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: GenCon 2012 on: August 17, 2012, 07:40:13 pm
I took 12th and didn't get a prize.  What a fucking waste of time.

14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Why I am not going to Gencon this year. on: June 15, 2012, 05:35:16 pm
I think the best, most simple solution is security cameras.   Having better and more should basically solve the problem.

I've worked retail jobs in the past and camera footage doesn't prove anything.  Unless you catch the person with the stolen goods the camera footage isnt enough to convict anyone.  Even if you see someone grab a deck box off a table you cant prove what was in the box or that it wasn't theirs ect.
15  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Why I am not going to Gencon this year. on: June 13, 2012, 07:04:50 pm
I go to Gencon every year and havent had a problem.  People are looking to steal shit every where, its not just gencon.  I always put the strap of my backpack around my leg while im playing and quickly pack everything up before chatting and it works well.

It will also help if  everyone keeps an eye out and these people get caught.  If everyone is expecting theft it should be easier to prevent.

I like the 2004 twister more then the new one.  I wouldnt hang either of the new paintings in my house, but I have high artistic standards.

24  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Baseball Playoff Predictions on: September 29, 2011, 06:51:41 pm
Im a 100% Brew Crew.  I'm hoping that the Cardinals beat the Phillies and the NLCS will be a replay of the 1982 world series.

I think the Rays pitching staff may get them out of the AL.  I wouldn't be shocked if any of the AL teams win their league.

I'm clearly a homer and I've got playoff tickets for the Brewers so I'm psyched for this post season.

You just cant leave anything around.  Keep it attached to your person.
26  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Champs 2011 on: August 09, 2011, 06:54:06 pm
This event wouldve been a lot better if everyone wasnt playing in Nats at the time.
27  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Renting cards. on: July 26, 2011, 05:07:01 pm
But how much would someone be willing to pay?  Youre in for $30 to enter the event and if you spend $30 on power you need to win to make any real earnings.  It would have to be $5 or $10 otherwise youre just throwing cash away.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Renting cards. on: July 21, 2011, 05:04:47 pm
I dont think anyone does it because its a huge pain in the ass to the vender if the stuff isnt returned.  Even if they could take you to court it was be extremely time consuming.  That said some dealers will do it but theyre rare.
29  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: GenCon on: July 21, 2011, 05:01:52 pm
Im going to continue my streak of Super fucking drunk gencons.  I've been working out my liver to prepare.
