Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / 8th with Shops [MOL Belgium] 14-3-2015

It's been a LONG time since I posted anything close to a report so... When the Mol guys announced they would be having 1 last Eternal weekend we knew we (Zieby and me) had to show up and play. The only problem was, we had sold all our cards some years ago. After E-mailing with Tom Hens (The TO) we got together Gifts for Zieby and Shops for me. List is below and a small writeup after. Since I didn't take notes and was playing on 4 hours of sleep total (yay for baby girls keeping you up during the night before, yes I'm THAT old) the writeup is going to be short. (sorry! ) Maindeck: 4 Mishra's Workshop 4 Ancient Tomb 4 Mishra's Factory 4 Mutavault 4 Wasteland 1 Strip Mine 1 Tolarian Academy 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Sol Ring 4 Lodestone Golem 4 Phyrexian Revoker 4 Phyrexian Metamorph 4 Sphere of Resistance 4 Thorn of Amethyst 3 Dismember 3 Chalice of the Void 3 Null Rod 2 Blinkmoth Nexus 1 Sculpting Steel Sideboard: 1 Dismember 1 Chalice of the Void 1 Null Rod 1 Sculpting Steel 4 Grafdigger's Cage 3 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale 2 Crucible of Worlds 1 Ghost Quarter 1 Precursor Golem First round: Bye.This guy must have the worst rating ever because he keeps losing. 1-0 Second Round: Guli - Humans.Game 1: I can't outrace dudes bashing me to death, was kinda close but not really. Game 2: I get an early Precursor Golem combined with a Sculpting steel for 6 Golem beatdowns, when the Lodestone joins it's just too much Game 3: Tabernacle on my side and Kataki on his... Guess dudes win. 1-1 Third round ?? (Forgot the name, sorry!) on Blue Belcher Game 1: He stalls the game with a ton of artifact mana in play and a Kandalabra. Since I have no clue what decks are being played I put him on something hightide or maybe even 12 post or some other legacy port. When he plays Belcher I get the idea and he wins. Game 2: Knowing he's playing Belcher makes it easy because turn 1 Revoker (Belcher) and Null Rod combine with spheres are an easy win. Game 3: See game 2 but with a wasteland on his Tolarian Academy (his only land) 2-1 Forth round: Tom - Doomsday.Game 1: I win the die roll and get a turn 1 sphere followed by a turn 2 Lodestone. He doesn't really get back in after that. Game 2: I get multiple wastes and strips and have a Dismember for something scary (probably trygon don't remember) 3-1 Fifth Round: Ilja, OathOnce again, I get paired with Ilja (if you dig up my last 3 reports you'll find we do this every event). Great guy and always great games but I know it's going to be rough. Last time I knocked him out of Top 8 so he's down for some payback. Game 1: He gets an early Oath out I manage to stall but eventually Griselbrand gets me. Game 2: We fight back and forth and I manage to again stall out pretty good, get him on 3 life, when Griselbrand hits. I can't race with 2 mutavault and 2 Factory vs his Grisel and lose. Guess he gets his revenge after all. 3-2 Sixth round: ?? (Forgot your name sorry!) on Sneak & Show.Game 1: He gets a sneak attack + Emrakul out before I can stop him. Since I do know what he's playing now I think I have this game in the bag. Game 2: Turn 1 Revoker on Sneakattack + Sphere, turn 2, Null Rod cutting down his mana, soon lodestone and Mutavaults clean up. Game 3: I manage to lock him out of every single mana source with Revoker's, Wastes, strips and a crucible. With only a Mox Ruby on his side, Revoker, Crucible, Mutavault and Sphere on mine he scoops. 4-2. With this score I think I'm not going to be doing anymore playing for the day and I turn in the deck I borrowed and head for something to eat. When the top 8 is announced I find out Ilja (being the good guy he is) actually drew his last match (he needed to lose or draw for me to make it in) so I get into the top 8 on 8th place. I scramble to get my deck in back and sit down for my match against a shop mirror. Top 8: Baptiste (I think the spelling might be off a bit but whatever) on shops.Game 1: He gets me with Slashpanther and lodestone. He's also playing Coercive Portal (which i've never seen before...) which kind off gives him an edge because it draws him cards. Game 2: We fight back and forth using waste / strips and crucible (I copied his) and we kinda stall out with me having a board advantage. He lands the Coercive Portal giving him more cards which eventually nets him a Wurmcoil engine which I cannot stop for the win. Overall I have a ton of fun and I saw a lot of people I hadn't seen in years. Made 75,- for the selling of the 3 duals I won (also good) and talked about old memories and made some new ones. Still feel a bit sad that these events are done for... Guess I'll see everybody the next time somebody does an event and wants to loan me a deck - Marske

1st: Necropotence.
It's seriously the hardest card to ever play "correct" (Do I draw to 7 or over do I draw more?, does my opponent have discard, how much life do I want to spend etc etc etc) The card single handly won (and lost) me more games in MTG then I care to remember, from "Old school" Necro (with Drain life's, Corrupts and Lake of the Dead) to Necro in TPS/Long/ANT.
2nd: Gifts Ungiven. No other tutor spells: I don't care what you do but I win this game... when this resolves and the pilot knows what he's doing it's the most broken spell to possibly be played. Either in Extended / Modern grabbing solutions or tron pieces, or in Vintage grabbing combo pieces...

Necro !! (just like the person posting this got necro'd)
Vintage is coming to modo (so I've been told)... I've sold all "cardboard crack" recently and own 0 MTG cards... I do have a modo account with Force of Wills and tons of legacy playables....
Getting into Modo vintage if TMD-ites are up for dueling!

@marske
Tps isn't really a thing right now, no. Burning oath is sort of the default combo deck. Right before regrowth was unrestricted doomsday was also doing well. I think there is room for a tropical Storm deck that isn't doomsday but it hasn't been discovered yet.
Maybe we should change that... You mean Bring TPS Back or Build a Tropical Storm deck that isn't Doomsday because this is just confusing!

@personalbackfire, awesome, good to see some of the "old guard" still around... @Twaun007, I know right, damn player that stroopwaffel connection should be setup if you want to feed the addiction PS. Is TPS still a deck or ? I have no clue and haven't kept up with Magic or Vintage since well over a year. I was shocked to see Regrowth unrestricted

Hello TMD !!!
Guess probably, maybe, (if life permits) me trying to kinda attend Bazaar of Moxen's 8 edition (yay, it's in Paris which is just 3 hours!) has sparked an interest in what's up in Vintage.
That being said, which one of you people active still knows who I am ?! =D

The Netherlands has the highest population density (493 inhabitants per square km - water excluded) of any European country with over 1 million inhabitants. Worldwide, only Bangladesh and Taiwan, among major countries, have a higher density of population. The 'Netherlands' mean "Low Country" in Dutch. About half of its surface area is less than 1 metre above sea level. Its highest point is 321 metres (1,053 ft) above sea level. Dutch people are the tallest in the world, with an average height of 184 cm for men and 170 cm for women. A 2007 UNICEF report on child well-being in rich countries ranked the Netherlands as the best country for children to live. Dutch people have the lowest incidence of lactose intolerance of any country - only 1%. History
New York City started as Dutch colony called New Amsterdam. Many places names in New York remind of the Dutch origins of the city, such as Flushing in Queens (famous for Flushing Meadows), named after Flushing in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Gin was invented in the Netherlands under the name of Jenever. It was first sold as a medicine in the late 16th century. Orange-coloured carrots appeared in the Netherlands in the 16th century. Before that carrots were white, yellow, black, purple or red. Orange carrots are said to have been bred in honour of the House of Orange, who led the Dutch Revolt against Spain and later became the Dutch Royal family. Orange is still the official colour of the Netherlands and a sign of patriotism. The Dutch national football team wears a bright orange shirt. The Dutch were the first Europeans to discover Australia and New Zealand in the 17th century. Australia was then named "New Holland". New Zealand was named after the province of Zeeland.Tasmania was named after Dutch explorer Abel Tasman (1603-1659). The island country of Mauritius was named in 1598 in honour of Prince Maurice of Nassau, the Stadtholder of the Netherlands at the time. Although the Portuguese were the first Europeans to "discover" tea in East Asia, it was the Dutch who introduced the beverage commercially to Europe in 1610. Tea didn't reach England until the 1650's. Indonesia was a Dutch colony until 1945. Jakarta was then called "Batavia", after the Latin name for the Netherlands. Dutch language is still spoken by a minority of Indonesians. Government & Politics
The Netherlands has two capitals : Amsterdam (the official capital by constitution since the 19th century) and The Hague (the seat of government and first capital since 1584). Soft drugs (e.g. cannabis, "magic mushrooms") are legal in the Netherlands. Only licenced "coffee shops" are allowed to sell such drugs, although people are allowed to grow cannabis at home for their personal use. Prostitution is legal in the Netherlands. However, prostitutes must be at least 18, and clients must be at least 16. Abortion on demand at any point between conception and viability has been legal since 1981. The Dutch government has legalised same-sex marriages since 2001 and euthanasia since 2002. Culture & Sciences
The Netherlands has spawned many world-class painters, such as Rembrandt, Jan Vermeer, Jan Steen, Vincent van Gogh or Piet Mondriaan. The microscope, the telescope, pendulum clock and the mercury thermometer are all 16th or 17th century Dutch inventions. The Dutch company 'Philips' invented the audio tape (in 1967), the video tape (in 1972), the Compact Disk (in 1982) and the CD-ROM (in 1985). There are 1180 windmills in the Netherlands. Tulips were imported from the Ottoman Empire and became very popular in Holland in the early 17th century. Nowadays, the Netherlands is the world's first producer and exporter of tulips. Keukenhof Park is the largest flower garden in the world. Smith & Jones in Amsterdam is Europe's first and only addiction clinic, treating everyting from compulsive gambling to alcoholism, and from eating disorders to video game addiction. Economy
Famous Dutch companies include Philips, Akzo Nobel , Royal Dutch Shell (half-British), Unilever (half-British), Heineken, IKEA (formerly Swedish) as well as the banks ING, ABN-AMRO and Fortis (Belgian-Dutch). The KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) is the longest running national airline in the world. It was founded in 1919. The Netherlands has long been one of the richest countries in the world. Its GDP per capita was estimated to be the highest in the world in 1820, and the 2nd highest in Europe in 1900 (after Belgium). Nowadays, it still enjoys the 4th highest nominal GDP per capita (or 3rd at PPP) within the European Union. The Netherlands have the highest level of foreign direct investment per capita in the world. Rotterdam, in South Holland, is the largest seaport in Europe. It used to be the largest port in the world by cargo tonnage, until being overtaken by Singapore in the 1990's, then Shanghai in 2003.
---------- In other words, we're AWESOME... And a responsible for a ton of stuff...

That being said you NFL lovers should check out a real sport like Rugby, no pussy padding (go all blacks!!!).... Psh Americans, I leave for a couple of month's and you get all superior again, this place needed some Dutchifying...
Once you're watching Rugby, you might as well just cut out the middleman and tune into UFC. Growing up, my dad explained that Football was a thinking man's sport, like chess, and I laughed at him. Then I watched Rugby. I love watching UFC.... I never claimed that rugby was a thinking mans sport that ones obv soccer ( bleh its football not soccer!) Soccer sucks You sir, are a savage... Nee meneer, hij is een wilde... Where is tmd's "LIKE" button?!

Seriously you guys, i'll be honest here... Having been on both coasts (i'm currently near LA even) NYC is my most favorite place in the world.
And i've been around everywhere save for asia... I don't know about sports teams as non of you guys have a football team (it's not football if you play with the ball in hands) as Ajax, FC Barcelona beat every sporting team out there by miles... Oh btw didn't the Dutch win the Baseball world championship?!?!

You can join my team. We only have two people and I've never played Magic in person before, but if you join I will Photoshop you a new avatar. Our team qualifications include winning the vaunted TMD Online Ringers II tournament, selling cards at a trade show that Stan Lee went to once, and living in the best place in America.
Sorry, you don't live in New York, so clearly this is false. You've lived in dutchie land so why are you stating new york here?!?
