1  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Article] WGDX vs Flash/Ichorid/Stax on: April 08, 2008, 12:39:16 pm
@fury thank you for clearing the situation, i thought of something like that^^.

the both sb variations are ,to my mind personal decisions to make, they have pro`s and con`s both.
the mask plan seems to be very fast and disruptive with stifle, but somehow it doenst suits me.
i think the mainpoint why i think the oath plan is superiour is that the hole deck with its bazaar action and the disruptive slots work better as a combo deck than transforming it into a kind of "fast aggro".
all synergies and all decisions while building the deck are made to create a damn fast combo deck, but thats my personal point of view.

@lemnear: your team is not the first, i hope that, to say fow with too less blue is useless^^. yes, thats true!
but in all the other dragon built, exept yours, is enough blue, so why do you want us to cut the card which avoids opponents first turn kills?

according to your list i want so say that it is build straght forward, it wants to start the combo as fas possible after duressing/thoughts. thats a good strategy, but its not that easy.
i miss more card draw, you cant have a bazaar always in your opening hand and even with powder if you have one always, the quality of your statr hand must be at least non optimal.
what iam trying to say is there are decks like flash that beat you up, even if you have a 2nd turn kill in hand, cause they run fow, i know that you have 8 duress but i think that powder decreases you hand card quality in that way that you dont have enough recources to win a after your ammo is shoot away.

have you ever thought off an instant win, where is necromancy???

to sum it up, dragon needs more weapons than your list has to be competative in the current meta,
maybe iam wrong, but in theory fow is a must!

congrets to the first place!

i have a question, in the match against ichorid, where you were forced to create a draw.did your opponenet really had no creatures in grave or did you have 2 rean spells?

i play gorger myself, not wgdx, and i use the oath+tyrannt sb. have you ever played the oath sb, iam curious wich is better, mask or oath, imean both need another turn to do something and cost 2 mana so they are simmilar somehow and atm a tyrannt in play seems to me to be better than a 12/12 guy.
i would be happy if you have some expirience helping you to compare this for us.

furthermore iam glad that you defeatet that stupid flash decks, but iam not sure how the new flash kill with body double and that white guy(forgot its name) will work against wgd. i think the future will show up.

sorry boogie man but the old times in w.dragon where you can only win with a bazaar active are over since onslought. in my version an intuition wins and in WGDX read the runes does the job, and by the way you are as fast as grim long, to my mind the only dfferences are that grim has a bigger 1st turn winning rate thats all, so w.dragon is in avarage as fast as grim long.
4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [article] WGDX vs GAT on: December 02, 2007, 04:58:53 pm
why are so many people afraid of fast aggro decks, you are playing w. dragon its speed is comparable to grim long which is indeed very fast, so where is the big deal???
5  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Lets talk about Thoughtseize.... on: November 29, 2007, 07:10:10 pm
i just want to tell that thoughtseize won me a game against stax, cause i could choose magus of the moon on the play on turn 1, other cards in his hand were SoR and a thorn.
6  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [article] WGDX vs GAT on: November 26, 2007, 11:17:40 am
@EnialisLiadon
i think running one tyrant is is completely wrong.
what do  people sb against dragon i.e. leyline and extirpate, so imagine your opp plays leyline and you have tyrant in hang should be gg and when he plays thoughtseize you are just dead.
brain freeze make only a little sence cause stroke>brain f.
you cant take the oath winning cards and just putting them into another decks sb just hoping it will work, you have to think about all  possible circumstances
7  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [article] WGDX vs GAT on: November 26, 2007, 08:56:14 am
as i mentioned, i played 4 tyrants and it was really good. now i try 3. must be enough. i think it is always stronger when tyrant no 2 reaches the table, cause you are not depending on mox ruby. bouncing every permanont you want is stronger than just being lucky by drawing rubi.
2 mox+ 2 tyrant or even m. crypt or sol ring deal the same way as mox are game winning situations.
i think hellkite is a metagame descision. against aggro matchups hitting him first can be stronger than tyrant. in every other case tyrant is the better choice!!!

iam sorry dicemanx, but i have not enough time to write an report and i didnt made notes from that tournament.i try to gather some facts.

my matchups were
goboleyne, 2 stax, hulk flash, and oath

against gobboline the maindeck leyline is pretty hard to fight.
goboleyne
game 1 he had it in his opening hand+ turn 2 kill (amazing)
g2 i won quick with oath plan
g3 i mulled to 4, keeping oath, pearl duress and force. topdecking orchard won me the game.

stax
both matches were easy, cause they borded gryvejard hate in in and oath killed them.

oath
funny thing when the oath player is faced orchards^^. i won.

flash
i dont remember the 2 gamesbut in g 3 we both had alot of backup in hand and only 4 minuites left in the round. so we considere to draw.

the entombe as you said is good to find the 2. win condition or at least something to combo out.
the card is mystical teachings.

the pacts: in testing there were very often the situation that i could combo out but holding only 1 card in hand most time it was Fow. pact allows to combo with backup  holding only  1 card in hand.
another good point is the opponent doesnt expect it. and with an necromancy you can even counter in opp turn and win in your next upkeep.

sorry for posting this "little report" here, but it suits the topic and is not big enough for an own thread

@Jaynel: your 5th point is wrong. when the aura comes into play with no target it doesnt trigger anymore. the aura works that it comes in as an global aura and then it triggers and targets a creature, if there is no creature it doesnt trigger and stays in play.

by the way, when you have the combo succsessfully on the table with that wicked witness recursion you should be able to win without sorceries!!!

@nineisnoone: recall is one of the instant win conditions!!!
10  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [article] WGDX vs GAT on: October 30, 2007, 06:10:21 pm
i considered to play WGD on my last tournement, but i wasnt sure what to do with sb. with this deck you need a very good-working sb plan or you get crushed by leyline and extirpate and so on. my teammate told me that dicemanx posted in the SCG-forum about his 3:0:1 at the prelim, with an oath sb. that was my solution!

i got 1st place with a 4:0:1 record(19 people most of them powered). so thanks for the idea of an oath sb which is just amazing.

here is my list and some explanations:

    1  Swamp
    4  Bazaar of Baghdad
    3  Underground Sea
    4  Polluted Delta
    1  Island
    2  Forbidden Orchard

// Creatures
    4  Worldgorger Dragon
    1  Eternal Witness

// Spells
    1  Imperial Seal
    1  Vampiric Tutor
    1  Demonic Tutor
    1  Black Lotus
    3  Deep Analysis
    1  Sol Ring
    1  Mana Crypt
    3  Necromancy
    3  Animate Dead
    1  Dance of the Dead
    1  Ancestral Recall
    1  Time Walk
    1  Cunning Wish
    1  Mox Sapphire
    3  Pact of Negation
    1  Mox Emerald
    1  Mox Jet
    1  Mox Pearl
    1  Mox Ruby
    1  Entomb
    4  Force of Will
    3  Intuition
    1  Lim-Dul's Vault
    1  Mystical Teachings
    3  Thoughtseize

// Sideboard
SB: 2  Forbidden Orchard
SB: 1  Stroke of Genius
SB: 1  Chain of Vapor
SB: 1  Bayou
SB: 4  Oath of Druids
SB: 4  Tidespout Tyrant
SB: 1  Echoing Truth
SB: 1  Gaea's Blessing

my disruptions are as you can see 4Fow 3 thoughtseize and 3 pacts.

Fow for me is a must have.

thoughtseize over duress: cards like meddling mage or waterfront bouncer or i.e. goblin welder just suck and you have the additional option to discard dragon(very rare situation but possible).

pact: no better card to protect the combo and it is blue.

tutors:

entomb: find dragon and can dig in a deep analysis.

Lim-Dul's Vault: an eot Lim-Dul's Vault is most time a win. it can tutor for bazaar as first card, finding combo parts and back up and once.

i. seal/vamp:create very often a turn 2 kill.

mystical teachings: propably one of the best cards in the deck! ist enables so many options and even slots in the main deck. you dont need read the runes anymore because each intuition can go for dragon, dragon, teachings and thats all you need in grave.
it can also tutor for Lim-Dul's Vault, ancestral or vampiric or backup.

sb.
as i mentioned before, i was playing an oath sb i think the only point to discuss here is which creatures to use.
i tried akroma and her friend but consiedered that tidespout tyrannt as the better choice. he is amazing with 2 mana artifacts he makes you infinite mana, 2 tyrants and some spells bounce the hole(or at least everything you want) bord of your opponent.and not to forget he is blue.

@dicemanx: great artical, i have waited so long for it. i Very Happy

ps.
other creatures in the main deck often deny the ability to draw the game

massacre is no big deal because of gaddock teeg, the bigger problem can be pyroclasm as said before by dante.
