Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Can we answer a Mentor?

Sudden Shock has been getting the job done from a Pyromancer's perspective. Dread of Night could do it too. Sulfur Elemental seems inferior to Dread, although I haven't tested either extensively.
I did get Propaganda'd yesterday by a Mentor deck. It slowed me down, I still won.
I still hold the theory that if something costs 3 mana in Vintage, it better be capable of shifting the balance of the game dramatically.

Here is an idea I'm thinking about for the playoffs:
We use the records from the swiss rounds, whether they won 2-0 or 2-1, and the best record has choice of play for playoffs.
For Example if we have two people both go 7-2 in the swiss and one goes 14-4 in games and the other player goes 13-5 in games or such the first player would have choice.
What are everyone's thoughts on this idea for playoffs?
In a completely biased view, as a Delver player, the vast majority of my matches go to 3 games, which means a games-based standing will favor a higher variance deck. I'd prefer match-based standings. A single match tie-breaker for those tied for playoff spots, a la VSL. my 2 cents.

Playing an aggro-control deck like Delver presents a lot of unusual plays, as I will switch from one mode to another after a single spell from my opponent. Picking up on opponent's sequencing is also very helpful.
One play was allowing a Yawgmoth's Will to resolve against my Flusterstorm and saving it for their Will'd Tinker. The reason was the only outs I saw were if they drew a Snapcaster next turn to flashback the Tinker. I wanted the Tinker exiled. Not exactly mind-blowing, but a step ahead of the current turn.
More unusual was facing down a next turn lethal Griselbrand. I Nature's Claimed my Mox main phase to push my life above 7 while they were on 3. This was bait for their FoW, which they used. I followed it up with Pyromancer, Time Walk for the win.

Meltdown is terrible in Mentor.
Part of beating shops consistently is establishing board presence with lands and fast mana. Meltdown (and Pulverize) make absolutely no sense when you have access to: Kataki, Energy Flux, Ingot Chewer, Grudge, Wear/Tear, Disenchant, etc;
I do my best to speak from personal experience and not use language that can make people feel bad about sharing their thoughts. Given that, I am not a big fan of Meltdown or Pulverize. Serenity taking an extra turn even seems to be weak. Shattering Spree has been excellent. I like it even better than Ancient Grudge, given the weakened manabase Green requires. Annul is another option if Oath and Shops are both prominent.

So, on May 3rd the decklist for each player for Week 1,2 and 3 MUST be published here after I start a thread titled: "First Trimester Decklists" the same will occur for the second and third trimesters as well. The dates for them will be May 24th and June 14th, but keep in mind the week starting the 20th of June will be a week off from the League because of my wedding.
Decklists will be published prior to R1,4,7 starting? This would be different from VSL where the 1st round of each trimester was a surprise.
