I know this is OT, but will there be any Vintage or Legacy tourney in Melbourne/Victoria/AU within the next two weeks? Perhaps a trials for the AU Masters. I'm visiting from Manila. Also, if these are sanctioned or proxy events?  Big Thanks!

Played this deck at the last Manila Vintage tournament. Instead of playing Shattering Spree in that 4th Duress spot, tried Abrupt Decay and opted for 3 Defense Grids in the SB. Decay helped me with Delver and could have some potential with COTV set at 2. Unfortunately my deck was brutal to me that day: 4 different occurrences that i resolved a bomb (via Twister, Jar and Necro) and 4x rewarded me with 5 lands, and two other jank cards. In one game versus RUG, was doin all the draw 7s and wishes only to be punk'd by Flusterstorm in the end (boarded out Duress in favor of Grids).

Another Long player opted for Past and Flames MD.

Need to run this again to get better results.

My previous built had Probe instead of Wraith and it actually served me well. Better info, additional storm. This time around, the tournament had several workshops running with multiple Jester Caps(sad sacs are also aplenty) and i would not want to be caught flat footed with only a few outs. Also i wanted 6 win conditions as tribute to Navy Seal's Team 6. The Wraiths could have been Confidants but i was only running 14 lands (not to mention no Moxen) and the DC's still on transit (shipping)

Anyway, im in the mood for a tourney report, so here it is

Using Next Level Doomsday Gush Storm

Round 1 vs Jesper(Ichorid)
Game 1: Insane 1st turn- opening of Street Wraith into Demonic Tutor, USea, Lotus Petal(1), Dark Ritual(2), Dark Ritual(3), Tutor(4) for Yawgmoth's Will(5), Petal(6), Ritual(7), Ritual(8), Tutor(9) for Tendrils of Agony(10)
Game 2: 1st turn Narcomeba for the zombie player, while having a turn 2 Tinker for BSC. He blocked BSC with Nacromeba while firing a Darkblast. The dredge card met a Mental Misstep. Jesper- "Eeeew Legacy card!"

Round 2 vs Vince (Oath)
Game 1: Two early Oath of Druids hit the board but without a Forbidden Orchard to force out a fatty. I won a counter war for Ancestral Recall. He resolved a Balance in the hopes getting back the advantage from the AR earlier resolved. A timely Chain of Vapor for one of the Oath of Druids forced the discard to 2 hands. Left in my hand were Tinker and Yawgmoth's Will. My turn saw me draw a Lotus then Tinker for BSC and Will for Time Walk
Game 2: An early Tinker for Inkwell Leviathan with counter protection afterwards proved too much to handle.
Game 3: A long game 3 as time is called. On the turn 1, I Praetor's Grasp his Tinker. Turn 3 saw me using his Tinker for BSC. Turn 5 saw BSC turning sideways for the match win

Round 3 vs Jay Pang (No Cat $tax)
Game 1: It was a no contest as i saw a turn 1 Resistor followed up by a Metamorphed Resistor. Steel Hellkite followed suit and pounded me into oblivion
Game 2: Another no contest as a Thorn managed to sneak through. Made a mistake of using Hurkyl's for FOW. A golem soon was beating me up with a wire keeping my resources locked up. A COTV for 2 finished me up. I was holding 2 Hurkyl's Recall

Round 4 vs Marcelle (Steel City Vault)
Game 1: Almost an error as i mistakenly kept a 1 land hand and lotus petal with Jace, Vampiric, FOW and Merchant Scroll. My 2nd turn saw me Vamp a Black Lotus and into a Jace TMS. I stabilized, a Tinker for Memory Jar got thru for him but minimal harm was done. Allowed a Time Vault to land. But Voltaic Key via Demonic Tutor met my Mental Misstep. Proceded to win via the Tendrils route
Game 2: Managed to land an early Necropotence into Doomsday-Gush. Standard pile of AR, Lotus, Petal, Yawgmoth's Will then Tendrils of Agony.

Round 5 vs Andrew (Trygon Jazerator)

Round 6 (Top 8) vs Jay (Pitch Storm)
Game 1: Recovered from a disastrous opening hand again. The black Skull landed, netting me a huge number of cards, eventually setting me up for a nasty Tendrils for 20. A Mental Misstep stoped a Dark Ritual that could have done significant damage on me.
Game 2: Necropotence strikes again. But almost a miss... after setting up Doomsday and a Gush for AR and Black Lotus, my AR got Misdirected. But luck was on my side as my AR produced 3 lands for Jay. Timetwister was on my hand which allowed me to recover and return back key cards in my hand. Mental Misstep was again key as it stopped a Brainstorm which would have netted him a FOW for a key spell of mine. Proceeded to Tendrils for a lot.

Round 7 (Semis) vs Andrew (Trygon Jace)
Game 1: Error after error after error. As mentioned in Andrew's tourney report, I lacked one mana to fire up a Tendrils. This happened after a Necro and when i threw away Vampiric Tutor, Mana Crypt and Sol Ring in favor of Fastbond and FOW. On my hand were Timetwister, Ancestral Recall, Dark Ritual, FOW, FOW, Fastbond, Yawgmoth's Will. I then allowed a Jace TMS to sneak through even though i have several FOWs (thinking i will win the next turn). I missed the storm, tried to Walk another turn but refilling my hand through Necro. He recovered nicely with Jace and won using Trygon.
Game 2: Silly me. Another match given away. I made the mistake of Forcing a Demonic Tutor that was backed up by Mana Drain, instead of allowing DT to resolve and using FOW on the card he will tutor up(Andrew wouldn't have been able to use Mana Drain). When DT resolved he tutored for Voltaic Key(with Drain mana waiting) with Time Vault already waiting in the floor. BUT... before all this happened, i failed to notice that i was already capable of using Gush, Doomsday and Yawgmoth's Will with a yard full of goodies (Black Lotus, Gush, AR, etc). I was too busy using Jace's fateseal (at 9 already) and playing control(I was holding 1 FOW, 2 Mental Missteps, Chain of Vapor, DD, YW). Hmph

Hand: Dark Ritual, Doomsday, Brainstorm, 2 random cards, 2 other for protection(optional)
Mana: BU
Play:

Cast Dark Ritual or Black Lotus(1) into Doomsday (2) to form Library: Black Lotus, Yawgmoth's Will, Dark Ritual, Ponder/Ancestral Recall and Tendrils of Agony,
Brainstorm(3, Mana Left: 0) into Lotus, Will, Ritual and return random 2 cards(Library: 2 cards + Ponder, ToA). Cast Lotus(4) into BBB (ML: BBB), Dark Ritual (5, ML: BBBBB),YawgWill (6, ML: BB), Replay Lotus (7) into UUU (ML: BBUUU), Replay Ritual (8, ML:BBBBUUU), Replay Brainstorm (9, ML:BBBBUU) for Ponder/Ancestral Recall
(Library: 2 cards + ToA), then Ponder/AR (10,ML:BBBBU) for ToA, Finally Tendrils (11) using remaining mana (Note: let me know if i did this correctly?)

There are at least 2 other ways. Adding Preordain can also provide other means of enabling DD.

And if i happen to Ad Nauseam my life to 2 without any means of getting to ToA but have mana, drew DD and at least one useful cantrip, you can go down to 1 and use DD to find your way to Tendrils.

An insane way would be to Doomsday and have at least 9 life, cast Ad Nauseam(somehow) for Black Lotus, Lotus Petal, Dark Ritual, Yawgmoth's Will, and Tendrils of Agony which take your life total to 1. Cool

 

@Inaki: Thanks for the insight. Indeed yes and its glaring. No support for everything else. My gameplan for that particular tournament was to force my way through in game 1 using the additional counter magic i added and do it very quickly. Game 2 calls for that Oath gamble (which nobody in that tournament expected... in fact nobody expected any ritual-based having the guts to play one). And if that gamble fails, go back to plan A in game 3, which is to force my way again. Honestly its crudeand most probably would not do that SB stunt again the next time around. And if ever ill do that xform thing, ill go bold and go for Leyline of Anticipation for the Needles, Crypt, and another card.

Long time Magic player, the last few years strictly playing Vintage (and some Legacy), does not playtest at all and would march at tournaments with only a day of preparation.

Eats, breathes and sleeps combo. Very fond of Food Chain Goblins, Belcher, ANT, Doomsday, and the rest of the Tendrils-based archetypes.

Been a long time member here. Its only now that i got the chance to really jot some text here

Sirs, i used to play a lot of ANT and got some decent and not-so-nice results in the past. Voltron's main deck and board seems solid (some will really argue the inclusion of Xantid in the SB and i would be one of those)

If i would play ANT this year i would go for 3 Ad Nauseam and 1 Doomsday instead of the 4. Yeah, seems odd. But countless times that I went low on life (through attacks and sometimes through the ANT run itself). I would like an out for this and saw DD can fit the role.

Just wanna share.

I was able to take this to top 8 in a Sanctioned Vintage Tournament in Manila November of last year. There were over 30 players that participated in the event. In the 7 rounds of that tournament i got paired with MUD(2-1), Ichorid(2-0), MUD(2-1), Grindstone(1-1-1), Jace Tez(1-1-1), Ichorid(2-1) and T8 -MUD(1-2). The fellow that beat me in T8 won the whole thing.

Looks like your regular TPTS but i made a lot of changes to the build. Instead of discard effects, i added my suite of Spell Pierces. It was there specifically for the Shops matchup. Normally a 1st turn resistor should be met by a FOW followed up by an on your turn Seize or Duress to net other spheres. I find it better to FOW the initial sphere then Pierce the succeeding sphere (which could be missed by your discard and the shops player happens to top deck another). Once that sphere is down, its downhill from there. I like my 2nd turn free from pesky +1ers

Another change i made is on the Tinker-bot plan. I insisted on using Magister Sphinx instead of using the usual Inkwell Leviathan or Sphinx of the Steel Wind. My plan is to fully utilize the down to 10 life effect that Magister provides and Tendrils the rest away. I had two chances to use this 5 spell combo to end games: Mana Crypt (1), Tinker (2) to Sphinx -10 life, Dark Ritual (3), Dark Ritual/Petal/Black Lotus (4) and Tendrils (5) for another -10 life. Plus that Magister bot works well with my Oath sideboard plan with Progenitus.

The workshop plan i used was either win fast or cheap counter the resistors in the 1st game and Oath the shops pilot in the succeeding games. When i transform to Oath i don't remove lands when i side in the Orchards (more permanents)

Played the 4th placing ANT deck

Some highlights(mostly slops) of my game last Sunday

Round 1 Vs Painters

Game 2 First turn Necropotence fetching 8 lands, 1 Mana Crypt and Brainstorm. Wow... I mean wow for a necro fetch. Good thing I was able to Brainstorm into Demonic Consultation into a Tendrils of Agony. My initial hand had enough juice to cook up a storm.

Round 2 Vs Tez

Game 2 With Remora on play on his end, i attempted Ad Nauseam after a bunch of spells and a bunch of free cards on his hand(I'd say around 8-10 cards) through Remora. What was fascinating here is that he was not able to get that FOW or Mana Drain after all those Remoras. Was able to storm him to 18 and finished him off with another Tendrils that was fetched through a Trinisphere hampered Vampiric Tutor two turns later. Had to Duress(cost B2) him the following turn.

Round 3 Vs Painters

Game 1 I play Ad Nauseam, he counters, I PoN, he counters, I PoN and for the third time he counters. Crap! I die my next turn via PoN
 
Round 4 Vs Bob Long

Game 1 Long game with Bobs pinching me for two for several turns. Was able to Ad Nauseam storm but short by 2 life to finish him. Along the storm lines, i had to chain two Pact of Negations for extra spells. Next turn he Hurkyl's Recall all my mana artifacts. I untapped my three lands next turn with JB shuffling and goes JB: "chingy, patay ka na. Yung PoN mo(Your PoN... you're dead) "  :blackeye:

Game 2 He twists and turns, plays a gazillion spells. He Duresses me. I refused, played PoN again protecting a lethal Tendrils. He Ponders and he gets... Hurkyl's Recall. He plays it on my mana artifacts and passes (what! No Tendrils). And like a dushbag dies a terrible death by PoN again  :shock:

Round 5 Vs Fish

Game 1 Getting beat up by his troops means i need to do something. So i did another PoN on one of his spells hoping that Timetwister can get me up to UU3 the following turn. It never did and again... nevermind!

PoN... hmmmmm! I lost a ton of games with that cursed card. Played too aggressive control on that day.
