Hello. First poster here. I've been playing MWS on-line for a while, but a lot fo the times it's hard to find vintage or legacy games.

1. Is there any other method other than MWS that can start vintage MTG games as easily or quickly? (not MTGO omg paying for virtual cards -_-)

2. One of the biggest reasons I have not gotten seriously into Vintage is the prohibitive cost to seriously start off in Vintage. I.e. even without the power nine, every decent Vintage player should keep a full set of duals, tutors, FoW etc... which adds up to at least $500. I recently learned that there are tournaments which allow proxies. How many proxies are standard?

Basically, if I want to begin participating in real life tournies, just how much should I expect to spend (i.e. from e-bay etc)? What should I watch out for?

Thanks for your input.

By the way, are there any list of "staples" that I should buy to get started?

For a while, I thought ichorid would be perfect. It would cost less than $1000 total, and could be used in Vintage and Legacy-the most expensive card would be the 4 Zaars, and those can be proxied even in 5-proxy events.

However... I see that hardly anyone uses them anymore because they're so easy to hate out...
