Ice Imports has agreed to host unlimited proxy vintage players in order to gauge interest in the format.  The price for the first event will be free with at least a deathrite shaman going to the winner and it will start at 7pm

With enough interest they will agree to support the format so please come out and let this great format grow!

First event will be next monday, June, 23rd 2014

3  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: Top Deck Games 2013 Eternal Series UPDATED WITH NEW INFO! on: November 24, 2013, 09:16:58 am
merfolk has been doing quite a bit better in modern, joel.  Master of waves is, in my opinion, the main reason to play the deck.  I like the splash black build because moderns counterspells are really poor comparitively you usually will want thoughsieze to stand for the disruption role.
4  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: The Mountains Win Again is Back! on: November 08, 2013, 07:56:40 am
I dunno, I still never felt like I was going to lose a mud matchup, i have 27 mana sources and several "must-counter" threats that they cant really counter.  On top of it cavern fights through chalice if need be and the sideboard is ridiculously mean.

Oath may have been an anomaly. I was able to blow out a fetchland with mindcensor one of the games and in both games I was always about an inch ahead on disruption.  4 Cages I think help quite a bit though.

Vito's gush list seems a lot less winnable with deathrite's and more importantly, toxic deluge factored in.  I didn't really feel like i was in those games for very long.

The dredge hate might have been a tad much.  The thing is, I was going into a tournament that required you to have real versions of the cards.  From my point of view this seemed to mean more shops and more dredge making my sideboard plan very good.  I honestly feel like that is why it was put together.

I actually think i wouldve liked a tad more disruption vs long.  The disruption doesnt come out quick enough or isnt plentiful enough.  I lost pretty damn bad there.  Again i feel the strength of this deck was how well it was metagamed for this tournament(sidenote, these aren't humblebrags I was handed this deck) so I understand i cant be ready for everything, these are just my opinions for adjustments to handle other metas.

Yeah, I feel your pain on big blue.  I'm worried that the deck would need to be cannablized too much to handle it.  Either way I'm happy to follow along and see if anyone comes up with something to help with this.

I am Vaughn bros's friend who has limited vintage knowledge Smile
If anyone has any questions about how things went let me know, otherwise ill try to get a tourney report done, but doubt it will happen.

As for the broad strokes they were basically covered, shops and dredge were comically easy all day, I beat three shops players and a dredge player, I see dredge as potentially loseable since I felt I drew kinda hot when playing it post board although I was extremely close to scalping game one so maybe it is actually just good.

Shops I played 3 times and while I occasionally would lose a game I never felt like I could lose the match.  It seemed absurdly favored all day.  My final win came from Oath which didn't seem too bad.  Cage was quite good there obviously and the orchard tokens often ended up as a liability for my opponent.

My losses were vito on gush which doesn't seem too bad except when wizards prints toxic deluge right before the event -_-
Menendian as stated above was another loss and it didn't really feel close
My last two losses were some big blue deck, and another big blue deck that was secretly dragon the whole time.  If I had know I would have boarded in 3 cages instead of two, but c'est la vie.

Overall I though the deck was pretty good although I'm trying to figure out if white is necessary, since duffy's list seems to basically have the good matchups that I do(perhaps minus dredge) while fixing a lot of the blue matchups.  Either way I was super thankful to be lent the deck and any questions are greatly appreciated.

Your landstill opponent's name was Patrick henry, a carmate of mine.  He was just given power literally ten minutes before the player's meeting.  Sounds like you savaged him...

Great job on the finish!  Smile

if it isnt possible for the organizers to get the unpowered lists up, i do my part to post my list that top 8ed for unpowered(and also snuck into top 64 by the skin of my teeth/breakers), mostly for egostroking, but also because as paul indicated it is super helpful for the community to see.
8  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: MVPLS Vintage event 9-14-13 on: September 05, 2013, 06:32:02 am
Even if there were no extra random prizes the prize support is STILL only rivalled by Coss locally.  At 24 people he takes in 840, subtracting credit we get 310 for a mox, time vault, or time walk.  Only vault is a slight value bleed and that is only if it isnt in good condition.

Now, I didnt quite understand your point at first and now that I do I will say I'm not all-in on the random prizing, but I find it kinda nice especially since, as demonstrated above, they are actually just extras.  The other thing to note about random prizes is that they attract new players.  New players dont look at a top heavy prize structure and see the value even if it is totally insane.  But when they see the value is fair for the entry fee AND they have a bunch of chances to win extra things even without doing well overall they are far more willing to try out vintage for a weekend.

The ingrained playerbase should be fairly happy just with the top 8 payout.  The rest doesn't even need to be focused on by them.  This community can't survive if we aren't bringing new players into the fold and personally I can't see a better way to get new players interested than the random feature matches and other crazy kinds of prizes.  I can honestly say I would pretty much have stopped playing vintage if it weren't for these events specifically.
9  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: MVPLS Vintage event 9-14-13 on: September 04, 2013, 04:20:53 pm
I remember heading out to one of his legacy events which sadly had relatively depressing attendance(8 or so).  Virtually everyone in our car walked away extremely happy and we didnt even rock the event that hard.  Even if these prizes aren't guaranteed out to 24 people they WILL be very over prized.  Calvin doesn't run bad events as far as I have seen ever.

I don't understand why the mouths of gift horses are being viewed so intently, but it seems rather obnoxious.

I have stated before that my vintage is on freeze for the summer(the drive from connecticut is not one to be taken lightly) but I would like to chime in about the start time. Coming from up from State College early in the morning isnt too tough, to echo Rob: we leave earlier.  The thing that will be a tad rough is the drive back,  a lot of us have stuff to do the next day or simply wish to enjoy our club meeting when we get back, it is hard to do this when returning back at nearly midnight.

I don't think it is the worst thing in the world to move back the start time, I just feel like it isn't the best option.  These ARE still the sickest vintage events this side of Nick Coss Smile

Also this is Mason btw.

I can't promise I can make it, but if I do I will likely be sporting a deck that is more than half mine Smile.

Thanks for the great tournament, I had a good time and congrats to Justin for beating me in the finals.  Pretty awkward only playing 1 actual game in the finals(each of us mulling to oblivion in games 1 and 2)

dude paul, skill borrower hits creature too(as spoiled)

It can hit bolas, phage, cinder elemental, masticore effects, and mch much more

basically it is a conditional "yet another aether vortex"(my favorite t4 card) It should get at least a test
18  Vintage Community Discussion / Type 4 / Re: [Type 4] Shards spoiler discussion on: September 17, 2008, 05:49:48 pm

Mirrorweave

Each other creature becomes a copy of target nonlegendary creature until end of turn.

Why doesn't anyone appreciate this

Yes it is narrow for their are considerably less nonlegendaries than legendaries

But for anyone who likes hilarious effects that are slightly narrow this one is for you

I mean come on everything is now a cinder elemental?

That would be just too funny
