1  Eternal Formats / Creative / T2 Regional, cards, and the Type 1 player. on: May 06, 2004, 10:26:33 pm
I traded a combination of Meddling Mage/Shadowmage Infiltrator/Stifle
to get a Library of Alexandria at the South Regionals.

I spent the entire time selling and trading to dealers for cool foils for my deck(Chalice of the Void, Goblin Welder etc....)

I did not trade away any cards worth more than ten dollars.
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / A plea to all experienced nonbudget vintage players.... on: March 31, 2004, 02:00:17 am
This argument has been had over and over in other formats. Type 1 is niche because the cards are rare. You either invest in the Moxes, etc or not. But I get annoyed when the local players at my store start crying that they don't have a chance because I am powered and they aren't. I bought my cards by working for them. You can do it, too. Anyone can do it with enough effort.

Alienating the older player base is what Wizards did with another format. It's called Standard.

As for diversity, there are only five powered players in my area. The number of budget decks in the area is very high, and they can win on sheer numbers.

I only have to drive twenty minutes to my local place and they have a tournament every saturday, with a power piece tourney every few months.

There is something about the line "for the good of the format" that I have lost faith in.

Why no glimmervoid?  Seems like 1 or 2 would be a good
replacement for painlands.

Too many times when you would have to have a prerequisite artifact in play that would get countered/blown up/eaten by Shaman.

Shivan Reef, I have found, is better than glimmervoid for that very reason. It says in play when the opponent starts molesting my artifacts.

I will never cut brainstorm because of the plethora of situations where the top three cards of my deck are the difference between winning and losing.
Not to mention, hiding cards from duress. I thought most people knew the reasons why brainstorm made decklists anyway. I love consistency, don't you?

In my area, Blood Moon is horrible because of the number of native mountains in decks already. 60% of decks in my area. I removed them for Fire/Ice. I would more than likely put them back in if I *EVER* went to a real event where more than 4 people were powered.

The number of unpowered Dragon around here has gone up a few people, so Platinum Angel makes my maindeck, and I still have Memnarch.

Memnarch - 4 dollars, Stealing Keeper's Exalted Angel - Priceless.
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / Recourse on Ebay....Success? on: March 10, 2004, 02:04:20 am
Larger established stores (Troll and Toad, StarCityGames, Wizard's Cupboard) are perfect for ordering online. They are not in the business of ripping you off.
6  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Some concerns about Stax on: March 09, 2004, 12:34:59 pm
Many things are metagame dependent.

Not running Triskelion is a good idea at a large events, but locally (at least for me) Triskelion is a useful card.

I am resisting the idea of removing Sphere of Resistance, so I prefer to have it along with Trinisphere.

I play with Wheel, Jar, 4 Meditate, 2 Thirst, A. Call

Creature-wise, I have 1 Karn, Platinum Angel, and Triskelion, with 4 Welders.

I'm boarding my Chalices lately, because I am a week away from a large event for a Black Lotus and control seemed to reappear out of nowhere.
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Why did you choose to play Type 1? on: March 09, 2004, 12:22:17 pm
After having my massive collection of foils risk being devalued into being worthless at the end of the last rotation, I decided to make the switch over to Type 1 and never look back.

I have also noted that play skill is required in this format, and it can be expensive. So the local group of annoying FNM players don't frequent the Type 1 gathering, giving a better environment for enjoying the game.

I greatly enjoy playing against adults.....not 12 year olds. I love being able to go on vacation and not have my deck be woth .02 cents.

More than that though, I like the lack of pressure.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Choosing the right card protectors...how? on: March 09, 2004, 12:05:16 pm
I play with Dragon Shield and I noticed that the green colored ones are longer that the other colors. My friend and I compared them, and oddly enough all of the green ones are like this. We bought a case (50 boxes of 100) and compared them all.

Yes, I am aware it is just a little bit obsessive........

Gunmetal sleeves are amazing. I have a few packs laying around for high REL events.

And I haven't used ultra pro since any alternative became available.
9  Eternal Formats / Creative / Rector Trix critique for upcoming tourney on: February 01, 2004, 04:41:48 pm
I enjoyed using Aura Fracture in the mirror match. (There were six Rector Trix decks in my area at once....). I do agree the Abyss is more useful that Humility. I don't know what to say about Form of the Dragon.

My name is Confesor Davila.

I am within a year of being a graduate school student at Wake Forest. my majors are Humanities, Economics, and Political Science. I currently live in San Antonio, Texas. I began playing Type I shortly after attending Nationals: 2003, where I traded every surplus standard card I had before rotation to obtain duals, moxes, Workshops. I have numerous top eights including South Regionals 2003.

My first deck in vintage was Rector Trix, which I do go back to when my Workshop based decks get hated out.

I've been a player since Ice Age.

I am nineteen years old.
