Mini Report:
I made top 8 and then lost in the first round so I ended in 5-8 place. Dredge is fun, this is my second tourney (3rd-4th place last tourney) after a 2 year break and as a returning player I felt like I was back to noob status and choose accordingly.
Note to self: this deck is broken. End Note.

Round 1: Cory playing something with Bazaar’s and Zombie Infestations.
I played Cory last tournament and he was playing u/r fish. I anticipated something along the same lines for this tournament.
Game 1 – I win the die roll. I have the turn 1 Bazaar. He has mox and duress and see’s another Bazaar. He then plays Undiscovered Paradise and crop rotates into a Strip Mine and uses it to kill my Bazaar. I go on to play my second Bazaar and win with some tokens.
Game 2 – I side in all 15 sideboard cards, and side out 4 Leyline of the Void (LotV), 3 Petrified Field, 2 Stinkweed Imp, 1 Golgari Thug, 1 Narcomeoba, 1 Ichorid, 1 Flamekin Zealot, 1 Dredge Return, and 1 Duplicant.
My opening hand has 3 Bazaar’s. He duresses and see’s gas. I dredge and get the same results as game 1.
Round 2: Christian playing Painter’s Servant/ Grindstone Combo
Game 1: I am on the draw. I mulligan to 5. My life never moves off 20, his goes 20, 19 (force), 17, 15, 12, 2, dead.
Game 2: I side in all 15 sideboard cards, and side out 4 Leyline of the Void (LotV), 3 Petrified Field, 2 Stinkweed Imp, 1 Golgari Thug, 1 Narcomeoba, 1 Ichorid, 1 Flame-kin Zealot, and 2 Dredge Return. I keep in Duplicant for his Colossus or if he plays Platinum Angel. I keep Hellkite for his random Welders.
I keep my opening 7. He FoW my opening Unmask. Then I attack for 2 turns with my Narcomoeba. He gets the Painter/Grindstone combo with exactly enough mana to cast it. I get decked.
Game 3: I mulligan to 4. I open the game with a CotV and he is mana light. He plays land and says go. I dredge a bunch of stuff and pass the turn. He draws and then passes it back. After the game, he tells me that the CotV won me the game. Mise.
Rant: Somewhere between round 2 and round 3 I lost my pen. I am sad b/c I didn’t have any extras. For the love of god, if you see a random pen, please do not pick it up. Or if you feel the need to pick it up, at least attempt to find out who the pen belongs to first. I lost a $.10 cent plastic pen. It is not the end of the world. It is not worth that much to me other than the fact that I no longer have a pen and I would like to use it to keep my score. It frickin sucks to lose a pen. I feel for anyone that has ever had this happen to them and I curse the peeps that have ever taken a random pen without thinking about who it belonged to first. The suckage didn’t stop there. When the next round started, I was still thinking about my pen. You could even say that I was a little on tilt. But, what sucked the most was when the next round started, I didn’t see anyone else using my pen?!?!? Big Sucks! End Rant.
Round 3: Jeff playing Control Slaver
Game 1: I am on the draw. I keep my opening hand. He drops a Lotus, Mana Crypt and Tolarian Academy turn 1 and passes. I’m wondering in my head WTF is going on? He has 7 mana available and didn’t play anything? I play an Unmask to see if the coast is clear pitching a Dredge Return. He cast Mana Drain off the Academy. I play my bazaar and draw into a second Unmask. I discard to bazaar and then cast the second Unmask. I see an Intuition, AK, land and Colossus. He has enough mana with the mana drian mana to either hard cast Colossus or to cast Intuition and then AK for 3 and then for 4. Since I’d rather try to race an 11/11 instead of giving him a full grip, I take the Intuition. This may have been a mistake, but I thought this was a fine play at the time.
He plays 11/11 and passes back. I dredge and get a Narcomoeba. Just a Narcomoeba and nothing else. WTF? Even one dredge card or some bridge from below would have helped me so I could try to dredge return on my Duplicant. I pass. Then die to 11/11 beats.
Game 2: I side in all 15 sideboard cards, and side out 4 Leyline of the Void (LotV), 3 Petrified Field, 2 Stinkweed Imp, 1 Golgari Thug, 1 Narcomeoba, 1 Ichorid, 1 Flame-kin Zealot, 1 Hellkite and 1 Dredge Return. I keep in Duplicant for his Colossus or if he plays Platinum Angel.
I mulligan to 5. Play bazaar and do my thing. He plays a welder. At some point I Unmask him and see Slaver, AK, Intuition, and something else. I took the something else since he is short on mana and has no outlet for slaver to get in the bin. At the end of my turn, he cast intuition for Time Walk, Tormod’s Crypt, and Black Lotus. I gave him Crypt since my graveyard wasn’t full yet. He activates Crypt during my upkeep. I dredge some more cards and he has no action. He then welds the T. Crypt back and eats my yard again. So on my next turn, I start the random dredging again. This time, I hit my Ichorids and swing him down to 3 with a 4/4 Golgari Grave-Troll and 4 zombie tokens. He takes his turn and draws one card. Plays Mindslaver and passes with 2 open mana. I’m thinking there is no way he drew his Echoing Truth. I have 6 cards left in my library and don’t want to deck myself, so I bring back my Ichorids and proceed with a regular draw. I move to attack phase. Guess what? He drew his frickin E. Truth. He blocks Grave-Troll with Welder and zaps all my zombies.
So is Magic. Next!
Round 4: Alex playing Workshops
Game 1: I start the game with LotV in play. He is on the play and does nothing to bother me (I think played a sphere of resistance). He has no way to remove it and my Ichorids keep coming into play and then leaving play to make me a bunch of zombie tokens. Nothing special.
Game 2: I Sideboard a little differently since he has wastelands and stripmine. I board in 4 Gemstone Mine and 4 Chain of Vapor. I board out 4 CotV and 1 Stinkweed Imp, 2 Dredge Return, and 1 Flame-Kin Zealot.
I open the game with Bazaar, he wastelands it. We play about 4-5 turns and then I scoop since he has full board control and I don’t have any dredgers.
Game 3: I’m on the play and open with LotV. I then proceed to Bazaar a ton of cards. He plays a Workshop Crucible turn one and then a Smokestack on turn 2. By this time, I am recurring an Ichorid and have a Narcomoeba in play with 2 Bridges in the yard.
His life total goes 20, 19, 15, 13, 0.
Round 5: Luis with Long.dec
ID
Round 6: Top 8 vs Luis playing Long.dec
Gameplan is to get 2 pieces of disruption by turn one. I wish I had started my game plan with something more basic like winning the die roll.
Game 1: I get LotV to start the game. Then on my first turn I get a CotV into play. His turn 2 involves him playing 9 spells including a Memory Jar and either a Twister or a Wheel into a Tendrils. It’s Luis, what did I expect? Lucksack.
So he just killed me on turn 2. I’m supposed to kill on turn 2! AND he won through a LotV!?!?!
Game 2: Sideboard in 3 Emerald Charm, 4 Gemstone Mine, 1 Chain of Vapor. Sideout 3 Petrified Fields, 1 Dredge Return, 1 Hellkite, 1 Stinkweed Imp, 1 Golgari Thug, 1 Flame-Kin Zealot.
I’m fuzzy on this one, but if my life totals are any indication, then the below is a representation of him trying to go off and not quite making it.
I am on the play and mulligan down to 5. I play bazaar and then cast CotV. His turn one involves playing mox into pithing needle naming bazaar. And then 2 dark rituals and then a Memory Jar. Internally, I am celebrating as I look at big stinks in the bin and realize if he activates Jar, I should win.
My turn has an Ichorid attack him down to 17. He must have fetched to 16. Then turn 2 he activates Jar and breaks another fetch land going to 15, and cast grim tutor going to 12, then cycles street wraith to 10 and the imperial seals down to 8 and then street wraiths to 6 and then does something else and ends up at 2 when he looks at his cards and then scoops as he has nothing and my yard is full.
Game 3: I change my sideboarded emerald charms (for explosiveness) for chain of vapors (for his pithing needle)
I start the game with Leyline, Bazaar and CotV. I have a good start with a bridge in the yard and ichorid coming in and out of play to give me zombie tokens. By turn 5, I’ve unmasked away a colossus, which I didn’t know goes back into the library, and also unmasked an tendrils. I was assuming these were his only 2 threats, but as you can see, at 20 life he proceeded to play 9 spells and his second copy of Tendrils for the win.
Sad Panda.
Changes to deck. I think a Sundering Titan needs to be either in the maindeck or the sideboard. Maybe cut the Hellkite. Second, there needs to be an answer to Long.dec as they are faster than Dredge can handle. Lastly, Darksteel Colossus needs to be in the sideboard to stop Grindstone from comboing out.
Props:
Dredge for being broken
Luis for splitting in the finals
Subway for 5 dollar subs
Rach for packing me a Snickers bar
Slops:
Pen crooks
