1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Upcoming Vintage Tourney. Need help with deck. on: November 08, 2008, 07:29:26 pm
FOr some reason, 2 weeks from now my local cardshop is holding a 10 proxy Vintage tournnament. I dont expect a developed meta so I wanted to go and play. The only deck I think might stand a chance that i Have right now is Ravffinity. I have no idea, however, to make mod it for vintage. Obviously, include power 8 and the unrestricted skullclamp, but other than that have no idea. some help would be appreciated!

Well from my limited amount of knowledge.... 14 lands for control is not good. drop the lotus petals for more islands and consider dropping others. I really like the chrome mox's as they are an awesome mana accelarator  and key to getting a scepter out on turn 1 which usually wrecks someone's day. I would say take out stifle(fetch lands are few and far between in casual games.) in place of boomerang. It also gives your scepter an awesome lock option. (not that locking your opponent at 1 land is extremely fun) I agree with the poster that mist dragon is an awesome way to kill someone compared to... well you know who. Great deck and maybe if you have time you can help me out with my control deck on the casual forums

What? no blastoderm? . I guess he might be too mana costly to put in but a 4cc 5/5 shroud common seems like a great editon.

no, enchantress will never "fly" in vintage. =)

What about just denial? desperate to me implies red. Red cards do desperate things. not blue. Blue is always in control. How about pitching a card?

I think that Flee, Goblin Savant is a great start of a card. However i do see some problems.

1. It's a wizard which is ok, but i really think shaman would be a better fit. G/R doesnt feel like it should be a wizard.
1. the ability is cool and something new for goblins however i think its overpowered.

all i can suggest and seems a great card.
If you could could you help me out with my deck posted on the casual forums?

i don't know how to build a deck around it but plague is the way to go. Assuming u can get it out turn 1-2 via dark ritual it will reck his deck. Then maybe procede to beat with black weenie?

Well since it sounds like your friends don't play orignal duels then sundering titan might not be incredibely effective. in fact you would just bring him in and he would wreck your duals.  Maybe try Darksteel Collosuss? or is that too overpowered... when i play with tinker and collosus all my friends scoop when it hits the board. sorry i wasnt much help... i think FoW is too overpowered for casual. Making someones mind your slave doesnt particulary smell of casual magic.=)
11  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Need major help with my casual control deck! on: August 11, 2008, 12:25:19 am
So i am pretty new at magic and am only 14  years of age so I have been having trouble with my mono blue control deck. My win condition is tinker for a cololossus. Then back it up with counters till i win.  I try to respect the restricted list for vintage as much as possible but will still keep 4 brainstorms, no matter what. Here it is...
Lands
18xisland
4x Mishra's Factory

Instants
4x counterspell
4x Brainstorm
4x Thirst for Knowledge
4x Rune Snag
4x Echoing Truth
4x Fow(proxy)

Sorcerey's
1x Merchant scroll
1x Mystical tutor
1x Tinker
1x Time Spiral
Enchantments

3x Standstill

Artifacts
3x Isochron scepter
1x lotus petal
1x darksteel cololussus.(how the devil do u spell that?)
1x sol ring

Questions i have...
Whats better draw engine? brainstorm plus ponder or brainstorm plus tfk?
I'm thinking of adding rainbow efreet or mist dragon for finisher thoughts?
