Aside from whether the deck is competetive or not, wouldn't oath creatures that shuffle back into your library work better?  I'm thinking that since you run bazaar, you could use that to filter out guys that you draw.  That way you are protected from sad sac even if you draw a big man or two (also you wouldn't have to run 5).

interesting deck, what about fetches over shivan reefs?  And how often do you have Master Transmuter in hand while you need to play out disruption to keep from losing?  and I guess how often do you end up playing Master Transmuter with an empty hand...  Seems good with stack/wire though.
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Transmuting Slaver on: February 10, 2009, 01:29:48 pm
As far as tuning this into a competitive deck, I would look into the general problems slaver has faced in the past.  Obviously you have a very strong late game, as most slaver decks do.  But, prior to having UU available your rather venerable with no more protection than your opponents are probably going to have.  In fact, lacking duress/seizes is likely going to put you at a serious disadvantage early game with only forces.  As a problem, this is going to be compounded with your deck running more 'robots' (game winning bomby guys that are clunky to get into play) than the average slaver build, much less tezz, remora, or ritual decks, as you will draw worse over the course of the game, with your hand filling up with 7/10s and 11/11s ect.  At that point I don't know how effectively you will be able to resolve stuff like Transmuter and co.  Obviously that is a bit of an exaggeration, but my point is how do you come back if your opponent gets ahead early?  You may well be able to, I'm just suggesting that that question is a legitimate one that this thread should answer if it hopes to tune this into a competitive deck.  Additionally you suffer all the particular 'slaver' hate in the format (rod, grudges, rack and ruin, ect).

I think that one of the biggest problems with contract is that it is dis-synergistic with some of the other engines in the deck, namely yawgmoth's bargain.  Also, Drawing 4 is by no means lethal, so a fast contract is by no means faster than the other options in the deck.  That means if you do have to pass the turn, you are putting yourself at a serious disadvantage, by giving aggressive creature based decks a 1-2 turn start into your life total and other combo decks a huge advantage of not needing a sizeable tendrils at all to win the game.

I don't have much to say here, but it seems like you might want to use offalsnout (I have no idea how to spell that), the 2B Flash Creature that removes a card in a players' graveyard with B Evoke in the board for Ichorid rather than crypt, just based on synergy.
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Conflux/Dream Halls combo deck? on: January 04, 2009, 02:02:16 pm
I think a significant thing to focus on when building a dream halls deck is that you want it to be powerful without it's namesake. The reason for this being you can never be garunteed to resolve any particular spell particuarly when your facing control decks with much better draw. I think that definitely you don't want to build this for speed, like a belcher deck as this is a much weaker kill card on it's own than belcher, which wins by itself with mana while dream halls in this case is reliant on two or more cards in hand. What does that mean? Your probably going to want to be blue based with draw of your own (aka tfk or intuition ak). Also I think you would be mistaken not to include yawg will, which means your probably going to be running some amount of black and likely the black rituals, not to mention the black bombs like bargain. Manamorphose is a good call, allowing you to move from rituals to your better spells. As far as conflux goes, it is indeed powerful with dream halls it's almost completely dead otherwise, as such it could be a really interesting and powerful tutor target, like you might tutor for a draw 7 with dream halls in play. I think since your playing a progressive combo deck that will win on it's turn or likely lose something like pact of negation is a possibility. Ultimately I think this is going to be a worse combo deck than some other things out there although I have to admit playing something like conflux for free would be incredibly fun
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: you did that ....................really? on: December 08, 2008, 08:37:21 pm
I think the point is that he didn't.  The idea of playing Pact in oath would be that your going to oath up platnium angel, so it would be a major oversight (misplay, hence the reply in this thread) to play Spirit of the Night.
8  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] 5c Oath - "Choke Oath" on: December 02, 2008, 10:49:45 pm
Additionally, Fastbond is conspicuously absent, a card that seems very good with LftL.  It seems like you could almost combine this list with the suggestion of Raven's Crime and Intuition, a card that is particuarly powerful in a build like yours with so many 3 ofs, Regrowth ect. If you do go that route, which I think would be potent, you could almost replace the Scroll racks, which are only good with LftL and bad with Bazaar.  Although I have to admit it seems like it would be cool to LFTL 3 lands, put them back, and then dredge them the next turn, but other than that it seems like you would have a hard time getting those lands off the top of your deck, particularly without fastbond, which would be an issue with your significantly high mana count: 27.

In summary, the suggestions are:
+1 fastbond
+2-3 Intuition
+1 Raven's Crime
+1 Cycling Land (Tree of Tales maybe although doesn't really matter)
-3 Scroll Rack
-Some land
-Timetwister

I'm interested in what your sideboard was/would be had you had Akroma/Hellkite MD.  Basically which decks did you feel deserved space in the sb based on your matchup % obviously, but if you could speak generally about it rather than in reference to your own metagame that would be much appreciated.  Also which cards you would consider the most synergistic and complementary as sb options.  Additionally, There has been a bit of discussion as far as the value of the singleton voltaic key, while you seem to take it is an auto-inclusion, which is completely understandable, could you possibly address your thoughts on the issue.
10  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Aggro & Control, the real meaning: Mr. Gaddock on: November 18, 2008, 11:19:36 am
Guli I've been following this thread since you posted it, and although I haven't commented on it I agree that the deck has lost its focus.  Originally you began as the quintessential vintage aggro deck, which is to say a soft lock + a clock to end the game before the lock is broken.  The originality of the deck was the different approach mentioned in your first post, and towards creating this deck as a distinctive archetype, I believe you need to refine what makes it original/different, so that it is not simply a 'fish variant'.  To do so, it seems you need to stress the defining features of this deck: Canonist, Teeg, with Safekeeper for protection.  From there you could go two ways, focusing on your clock as protection for your lock, or more lock peices towards a harder lock, since the latter wasn't the focus of the thread I'll disregard it.  Tarmogoyf's presence is an indication on an emphasis on the clock as protection idea.

Now you've moved the deck into a non-complementary side strategy, in that painter's/grindstone isn't benefited by any other part of the deck, nor does it benefit any other part (In the way more focused painter's decks with REB/FoW function).  It seems fine to make the deck's focus its soft lock with a combo finish, similar to how bomberman or MUD combo decks work.  However, your essentially wasting slots+resources (Cards/mana) by including both painter's and Tarmogoyfs.  You could make an argument that having two ways towards victory give the deck resiliency, but due to the dis-synergy between them (Grindstone + tarmogoyf is just as good as tarmogoyf, same with painters+goyf, or Welder/Goyf, Grindstone/Welder, and any other combination of the cards in your deck) I would say you open yourself to disruption in the form of counterspells+discard taking not 1 card from you, but also the reliant synergistic card.

This is similar to the charge counters, core tapper ect stuff, its non-complementary with a resulting negative effect on the decks ability to function.  However, I would not completely discount the entire discussion, as I believe Welder has potential.  Just generally, its probably (simply?) the best creature ever printed, and as a metagame call by itself (no painters combo in deck) it would likely be relevant in many matchups.  In that sense, I would say its valuable as a sb card or as a metagame-main deck slot, particuarly because you already run vial.

As far as suggestions of my own for the deck, I would focus on its consistency which ever way you go with it, simply because that is one of the main reasons to play something like this over a ritual or drain based strategies, which are bordering on singleton territory.  So if your going to stick with Painters/Grind stone, in your GWx build your going to need tutors or card quality to address the problem of having dis-synergistic pieces in your hand, whether that means Black for its tutors, Blue for Trinket mage or tinker ect, or red for Gamble/welder ect is up to you.  What I think is a more viable (read competetive) route to take the deck would be to focus more on the clock as lock protection aspect of your deck and work on the consistency there.  That means 4x all your main creatures obviously, with maybe 3 teegs.  Focus the early game on disrupting your opponent like your original deck intended, however you do that is up to you, aven mindcensor is a possibility, black for discard maybe, blue for the mana denial you hate, red for magus ect.  I would stick to a 2 color base with a splash, because you want your deck to essentially work the same way every game (this is called consistency) with no hiccups, as hiccups spell death for the vintage aggro archetype, since your opponent can simply win in any window you provide them.
11  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] "Broken Mirror" Doomsday on: September 29, 2008, 06:28:00 pm
I think hes refering specifically to the Leyline case.  And yes you would be unable to go-off unless you could produce UUU without lotus in that case.  The reason is what he stated, you have to pop lotus for green so you can research, and you need extra blue for Recall Wish Research.  Basically the only thing it means is don't try to go off against leyline without adequate mana.
12  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] "Broken Mirror" Doomsday on: September 25, 2008, 05:22:07 pm
This is a really cool and innovative take on doomsday.  I wonder if Including 'regular' doomsday kills or things like gush (only one you don't run atm) that let you go off that turn would be helpful?  As far as Cunning Wish vs Doomsday, i think Wish is more resilient to hate but the OP can speak on that better than I.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: High Tide on: September 17, 2008, 10:40:11 pm
Reset and Turnabout were the base of past hide tide decks.  As far as that original deck list that was posted, why 1 Top, and why Time walk?  If your set on Time Walk, would necro be another bomb you can play?  Why not play more Draw 7s like twister and Diminishing Returns so you can legitimately chain them together, if you go that route Xantid Swarm/Orim's Chant/Abeyance would probably be really helpful albeit requiring a bit of a splash.
14  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Lich's Mirror, Channel-Fireball ~~<((0)) on: September 17, 2008, 01:59:47 pm
This is a pretty interesting deck.  I wonder if Tinker doesn't have a place in here, basically its fabricate after your channel/mirror and its better before.  Also against some hate decks you can board in a single 11/11 (Or Plats if you want to be tricky with pacts) to give you a second win condition.  I think that Tinker is particuarly powerful since all your channel tutors double as tinker tutors.  Also, as far as someone's suggestion of LED goes, its really strong if you have tutors-to-hand as opposed to Topdeck tutors, which require that you have a Top.  Also, i recognize Time Walk is good, but I would question its place in this deck, particuarly if you are playing it in this sort of all in way (turn 2 channel->win), and additionally since you don't need to pass the turn for your win.  Lastly, Shawn is 'Green Land Search' land grant or Fetches?  Each are interesting but have what i feel are significantly different effects on the chrome mox vs Mox Diamond discussion.  One last thing, why Gemstone Mines over Polluted Delta or Green Fetchs.  PS. Sideboard Regrowth/Reasearch/Development?
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Llotv and Helm of Obedience in black stax on: September 16, 2008, 09:30:49 pm
I like this idea of Helm in stax, as I could see that being a deck that would benefit from MD Leylines.  However I wonder if 4 Helms is necessary, would Demonic Tutor/Vamp fit here?  Also, Why Serum Powder? just to mull into Leyline?  Whats the plan if/when your leyline gets bounced or destroyed, Its going to be difficult to recast through your own spheres with Shop/Bazaar being irrelevant land in that situation. Also, do you think the new Player's Can't Search Librarys card fit here, particuarly if you don't go the counter route?  Would 4+ Duress (Thoughtseize?) be helpful, or do you find turn 1 bazaar/workshop to be a stronger play that leads to equally quick and powerful disruption.  Finally, as far as the mana base goes, would a more mana disruptive plan be helpful?  such as CoTV, Strips, Crucible instead of maybe monolith, petal, 4 Serum?  Good Luck with your deck, keep us updated on how it goes.

PS. First post, 1000th troll. Smile
