1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Reprints on: August 22, 2005, 01:44:12 am
First off I want to address this notion that we somehow need reprints.  We don't!  I'm not saying that you (NastyNate) are saying that we do but there is a sentiment I get from reading posts around the internet that more people want reprints.  All we need is proxies, and so far we have that so we are good to go.  Pete at SCG Chi-town #2 this year told me he is going to continue his tourneys, there will still be Waterburies.  The West Coast seems to be doing alright.  Is our format in such a dire state that WoTC needs to move in such a drastic measure as to reprint power?  No.  I couldn't be happier with how Vintage is growing/ has grown since I began playing it.  This talk is ludicrous.

If WoTC did somehow reprint power and the others (Mana Drain, Bazaar of Baghdad, Mishra's Workshop) then I believe that as far as the price of those cards go it would depend on the print run.  Too small a print run and power could even possible go up in price from increased tourneys and turnout, medium and I believe the price drops a little or stays the same, too many and the price drops dramatically at first then it's a coin toss wether or not the price gradually comes back up.  Another effect of reprinting is that all, thats right every single card I own would go on Ebay immediately.  It would show such a utter lack of confidence and faith in their game to reprint that I believe it would be the sign of the end of magic.

BTW, I only own two pieces of power.

Thnxs for the info Steve.  Now, do you have anymore of it or are we just going to have to wait?  Any new tech in the T8?

I wonder what happened to the Survival decks?

Woot!  Go go power rangers, I mean Goblins...I think.

Ok, here are my suggestions;

-1x Trash for treasure
-2x Animate dead
-1x Therapy
-1x Wheel
-1x Crucible

+1x Vamp tutor
+3x Senesei divining top
+1x Triskelion
+1x Memory jar

Trash is just a worse one-shot welder, animate is ok at best, with so little creatures therapy will not be flashed that much and the disruption is solid so far, wheel is just bad in the combo matchup, real bad, and three crucibles is a little much with all the tutoring power.

The vamp is a solid tutor.  You can do cool welder tricks with the top and alone its not half bad.  The trisk will help in the aggro matchups, like Fish.  Jar is just, ahh Jar.

With hardly any moxen you should go with four chalices and use them like U/G Fish does.  Otherwise use up some of those proxy slots and add in moxen.  Here's my idea for an adjusted mana base;

1 strip mine
4 wasteland
4 mishra's workshop
4 Solo moxen (2 on color, 2 off)
1 B Lotus
1 lotus petal
2 Ancient Tomb
2 Great Furnace
3 Wooded Foothill
4 Badlands

I think people are wrong about what is going to come back now that trinisphere is basically gone.  It's not combo, it's Aggro-Control (GaT)/ Control (4c).  Before trini's prescence was really felt combo was not dominating, it was solid but not out of control.  Combo while "under" trini has gotten only the unrestricting of doomsday to aid it so its the at the same power level that it was at before trini.  Combo's showings will go up but not insanely like everyone is hyping.  GaT was trying to be optimized then trini popped up and killed it so guess whos coming, fear the Dryad, or not.

Damn you Steve for getting to my point before i did...good job, lol.

My personal fav is fastbond/exploration and horn of greed.  Not exactly widely used or even that great still.

Good post Gimbles.
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / Playtesting? on: March 29, 2004, 05:30:01 pm
Thnxs for all the replies.  How would i go about playtesting online?  The local scene is really bad i have to drive to madison or mil i'm assuming to play but can't drive and don't know if there are alot of people around there to test with.

Well good job on taking home the first mil tourny.  Was the meta what you expected or not, I kinda figure not since you weren't impressed with your sb.  Are 4x berserks a standard in mask-nought or was that oyur add?  I would have been there but was unable to make it, the next one i will really try and make, when is it?  Well congrats again, maybe have your bro post his tourny report i would be interested in reading it.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if i posted a decklist that needed playtesting if anyone would be interesting in doing it.  I would but lack power plus workshops/drains/bazaars and some other cards to make my potenial decks and the gauntlet it would be facing.  Also i have no one in my area that really is a vintage player or even that serious, extremely casual.  Thank you.

I live in whitewater, that would be really if there was a monthly tourny in Mil. area.  Yes, i finally get to go to a vintage tourny, yeah for me, and everyone else who attends.
10  Eternal Formats / Creative / Black Hole a Variant to Chalice Black, Better or not? on: February 06, 2004, 04:39:20 pm
My new decklist;

Black Hole

Draw/Tutor (3)

1x Demonic tutor
1x Demonic consultation
1x Yawgmoth’s will

Control/Disruption (24)

4x Duress
4x Unmask
4x Sinkhole
4x Null rod
4x Sphere of resistence
4x Chalice of the void

Misc. (0)

Kill (8)

4x Nantuko shade
4x Phyrexian negator

Mana Base (25)

1x Strip mine
4x Wasteland
4x Mishra’s factories
1x Lotus petal
1x Black lotus
1x Mox jet
1x Sol ring
8x Swamps
4x Dark ritual

Changes made;

-4 hymns/+4 unmask

This is becuase with rods and chalices there will be lots of extra cards in hand so hymns will be diluted severly.  No therapy cause i will be setting chalice at one alot and not many creatures to sac it to.

-4 Withered wretch/+4 factories

The wretch really is more of a sideboard card and factories are great, thanks to ump for this one.

-1 swamp/+1 lotus petal

With 16 permanent mana sources i should be fine and speed is key to this deck to compete, again kinda thanks to ump and  EchoBoy for this.

-1 necro/+1 rod

More rundundency and necro is there for control matchups and i want to win faster, plus the chalices will shut off a decent amount of control stuff, yet again thanks to ump for this.

-1 vamp, -3 mire/+4 Chalices

The vamp is really not needed with the redundenacy and i don't need to thin the deck.  28 mana sources would be high also.  It will also be interesting to have all sphere, rod, and chalice maindecked.  Should improve more matchups without losing anything.

I'm new to vintage so this is why i'm trying to get a cheaper but effective deck like this built.  I'm at college and there's not really anyone around that plays vintage so i really don't have a meta so thats the reason for no sb.

Thanks for all the comments, keep them coming.

12  Vintage Community Discussion / Community Introductions / Hello Y'll on: February 03, 2004, 09:20:37 pm
Hello Y'll,

My name is Dube, actually it's my last name and everyone i know calls me it so, it's my name.  I live in whitewater, wisconsin and am attending the university here.  Whitewater is about 30 to 45 mins. away from madison our beloved capital.  I'm majoring in business mang. and plan on owning my own business some day.  Other interests include; b-ball, guitar, writing (poems, short stories), music (early 90's rock) and women.  My aol handle is blackmindkdc, what a surprise.

Magic history; start playing in 1997 (right before tempest comes out), my first pack is of mirage, i played for a few years then quit and sold everything, Got back into it after a few years this past summer, started playing standard and extended but three months ago relized both formats suck and started checkin out this site.  Vintage seemed really cool so here i am.  I don't own any P9 but am interested in getting some and have the ability to, plus i have a decent collection.
