I'm getting ready for my first vintage tournament. I had a suicide black deck, but my friends (and basically everyone on the internet) tells me that suicide black is pretty much out right now. This was my old deck list:

I thought it was pretty good. Looking through my cards, I found I can easily build one of two decks without too big of an investment, both seem to be somewhat competitive in vintage... This is where you come in:

4 Hymn (Should this be Thoughtseize given the lack of graveyard hate?)
4 Powder Keg

4 Hypnotic Specter (Again, no grave hate. Random discard, a good idea for me?)

1 Necropotence

This deck looks like it would be a blast to play. But I don't want to build it if I'm going to get wiped every game.

Again, this LOOKS like it would work. I saw this exact decklist get 5th in a tournament in ottawa, so I figure it can't be that bad.

I understand that a large part of winning in Magic is... Well... Being good at it. I understand that buying the best deck won't necessarily make me place well. However, if I have to spend cash on a deck, I'd rather get one that is a good future investment. Something that I can consistently build on, while gaining tournament experience and not getting stomped.

So... I ask:

Which of these decks do you think have the brightest future?

Thank you very much for the advice. From advice I've gotten from other forums as well on this deck, they said it is difficult to make it really competitive and recommended a mono black control build similar to this by Jeff Kruger:

Would that be an overall better deck if I wanted to do well in tournaments? MBC over Suicide Black, I mean. Because I have most of the cards for that deck as well, so I'm just curious.

Oh, and one more thing. I've been looking into adding Chains of Mephistopheles or Nether Void. Not sure if I'd want them MD or SB. Do either of those cards still have a place in Vintage at all?

I've been playing Magic for a while now, but never really vintage. Mainly just type 2. So, I'm looking to make a Suicide Black deck as powerful as possible, within reason haha. I can't afford a lotus or a mox jet right now so minus those, this is my decklist as it is right now:

Sideboard is mainly going to be anti-aggro hopefully. I haven't made the SB yet. Like I said, I don't play Vintage at all yet really, but these are the cards I've used to make a sui black deck as of now. ANY HELP AT ALL is greatly appreciated! Anything from taking out 1-2 extirpates (I don't know if 4 is overkill) or even sideboard suggestions! Ok, I'm done rambling. Anything you guys can do to help me make this deck a bit better!
