fabiano is messing it up. Why is he even in qualifier?
Reid did awesome on commentary.
WIsh brassman was in qualifier.
I like nick's workshop list much better then ochoas. 8 sphere seems like a must vs all the mentor/pyromancer decks and metalworker seems lackluster.
Shame we didnt get to see sams deck in action.
Fun fact: I thought the list I submitted did have 8. No wonder there was so much room for everything else. Although I disagree about Metalworker.

It's good to see the prices of singles have been adjusted and are competitive with the rest of the market. That makes me more inclined to play for just store credit, although I would like to see a change in the entry/prize structure. I'd prefer a lower entry fee because there isn't a specific card (i.e Mox/Bazaar/Shop/etc) that is being awarded that would normally advocate a higher entry fee in order to cover costs. The most direct beneficiary of having higher entry is the store because they're taking in mostly cash for future sales, and while I'm not opposed to a symbiotic relationship with Eudemonia, I'd prefer to have the players benefit first. Lower costs will open the door for more players. Lastly, I'd like to see the minimum prize be at least equal to the entry. Making top 8 and walking away with less than you put in isn't the best feeling, even if it's only a few dollars.
I had a fun time and look forward to bashing you all again in the future. Hopefully the tournament structure will have changed.

I would like to know how David felt about not having Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and Tinker in his deck.
I didn't like the fact that the deck couldn't cheat a win when it needed to take a more proactive role. For example, it's much tougher to win against Dredge with just incremental advantage. Not to sound condesending, and now the proverbial "but", but what was the reasoning for not playing the accelerants? I guess he wanted to try out the exact ovino 7 winner list: http://manainfinito.com/articulos/report-ganador-ovino-7-por-jaime-canoA few reasons, actually: 1. There's only Jace and Gifts to ramp into, which makes Sol Ring, Mana Vault/Crypt pretty bad. 2. Jaime Cano has put up some pretty good results, so I wanted to see how the deck performed as is. 3. I didn't want to put much time into preparing for the tournament.

Sweet, except prize support was cut in half I guess with the low turnouts that it was bound to happen The prize support isn't cut in half except for when the minimum number of people enter. Giving away a LoA allows the store to free up more prizes from first place and distrubute them elsewhere. For example, in a sixteen man tournament a mox will eat up nearly all of the entry costs and make additional prizes beyond it kept to a minimum. In the case of a LoA, first place only eats up roughly eight entries which lets the store distribute an extra two-hundred amongst the t4/t8.

Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Why is "Fish" called "Fish"?
|
on: September 18, 2010, 06:13:54 pm

Out of curiosity, how did this deck get the name "Fish"? It doesn't seem to make any sense to me. I can understand why Merfolk in Leagacy are called Fish but I don't see the comparison between the two decks.
Fish originated from Pro Tour Rome in 1998 where Merfolk took second place. The name 'Fish' was slang for Merfolk and has evolved to describe Blue-Based aggro control decks. Merfolk: Nicholas Labarre, 2nd Place, Pro Tour - Rome Main Deck: 18 Island 4 Wasteland 4 Lord of Atlantis 4 Merfolk Raiders 4 Manta Riders 4 Suq'Ata Firewalker 4 Man-o'-War 3 Waterspout Djinn 4 Force of Will 4 Counterspell 2 Force Spike 3 Nevinyrral's Disk 2 Curiosity Sideboard: 2 Phyrexian Furnace 2 Bottle Gnomes 2 Force Spike 2 Disrupt 4 Hydroblast 2 Serrated Arrows 1 Nevinyrral's Disk
