1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Power Level Errata: They're removing it! on: July 08, 2006, 03:33:14 pm
Debt of Loyalty becomes a whole lot better (especially in legacy)  if they remove the errata.

4  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Article] How to Run a Type One Tournament on: April 22, 2004, 08:52:42 am

I think, at least here, a major part of it is simply because (right or wrong) they think it will hurt sales of cards. Do you suggest simply trying to lure stores away from sanctioned tournies or what?

Here are some arguments you could use:

Most stores have a very limited selection power cards in stock, if they have any at all.  Last time I went to YMG Somerville (a major store in my area), they had one Mox (Emerald) available.  It is difficult for a store to hurt sales of cards they don't even stock!  By allowing proxies, the store owner actually INCREASES his/her potential of receiving revenue from  customers.   Would the local store owner rather sell a box of Darksteel (in stock) or lose the $90-$100 sale to, say, a Mana Drain (not in stock) purchase on ebay?

Type 1 tourneys attract segments not currently served by the store.  Last time I checked, expanding your customer base is a Good Thing (tm).

Type I tournaments need not be sanctioned.  Vintage DCI ratings are insignificant to 99.9% of competitors in Type I tournaments.  DCI ratings matter most to the PTQ crowd, for whom Vintage ratings are worthless.
5  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Sinkhole Unlimited - true or false? on: March 19, 2004, 11:13:27 am
I doubt they are fake.  Anyone who could make that good a counterfeit would most likely use their technology to duplicate a more valuable card than Sinkhole.
6  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Avoid Ultra Pro on: March 08, 2004, 10:57:01 am
I will never use or buy Ultra Pro ever again.  I received a warning thanks to miscut(slightly longer) sleeves.  The sleeves were brand new.  20-25% of them were miscut.  Fortunately the sleeves in question were not key cards and there was no pattern as it was completely unintentional on my part.

Also, I noticed that Ultra Pro are more prone to scratch cards when shuffling.  Dragon Shields or Japanese (esp. Gunmetal Black) are the way to go.

How many refs did the guy have?

He currently holds a score of 6.  9 comments total.  100% positive.  ID verified, FWIW.

Positive refs from buyers are all on Unlimited power/good stuff right now.  One of the satisfied BUYERS is a reputable seller of power cards on ebay.

The guy sold some other non-power Alpha stuff including dual, all one-ofs incidently.  No feedback has come in as of yet for any of the other Alpha stuff.

I paid with a credit card, so I have some hand in this deal.

EDIT: for butchering the English language
8  Eternal Formats / Creative / bend test on: February 12, 2004, 11:14:20 am
It passed the bend test with flying colors.  Any other things to look for?  Thanks for the replies guys.
9  Eternal Formats / Creative / dots on: February 12, 2004, 11:05:32 am
Thanks for the reply.  Alphas, Betas and Collectors Edition all have the white dots.

Anyone out there have any experience detecting a reback?
10  Eternal Formats / Creative / Alpha Mox: Real or counterfeit? on: February 12, 2004, 10:27:39 am
I just picked up an Alpha Mox on ebay.  I would describe the condition as NM-.  The card passed the light test, bend test and the print quality looks ok (tiny circles evident.)

My only concern is small curling on the corners.  I know Alpha corners are rounder than other Magic cards.  The corners show a slight indentation.  I have heard of Collector's Edition cards being rebacked and passed as Alphas or Betas.

Should I be concerned or am I just being paranoid?  Any other tests I could perform, or anomalies to look for?
