1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Team Serious Open Results - December 21 - Columbus on: December 28, 2013, 01:50:52 pm
I was retired? I thought I was just not playing much since I moved to Cuyahoga Falls.

I missed some cards when I sent you my list. It should be -1 Mana Crypt +3 Steel Helllite. Oops!
2  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Results - Serious Open - Sandusky, Ohio - July 2.... Seriously on: July 06, 2011, 01:50:06 am
Awesome event, as always. Thanks to Matt for setting it up, Dave for hosting, Twaun for posting, and everyone that made it out. I had a blast and I can't wait for the next one!

Also my list (Nam Tran) is missing Tolarian Academy from the maindeck.
3  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Meandeck Open 2-20-11 RESULTS on: February 27, 2011, 03:22:52 pm
Awesome tournament as always. I was glad I was able to make it out. It felt good to play with some power 9 after a while of playing standard. Hopefully I can try and make the next tournament!

I found the lack of Trinisphere in the 3rd and 5th place MUD lists interesting.

Either pilot (Nam Tran and Jason Pare, respectively) want to comment on their reasoning in leaving it out?

I don't think you need to run Trinisphere if you are already running 4 Thorn and 4 SoR. Having two 2spheres out usually makes Trinisphere redundant and/or irrelevant.

10  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: How do I get a "Core Set Box FOIL" card??? on: February 26, 2010, 02:29:33 pm
I do believe the foil promotional Honor of the Pure was a preorder promo. If you went to your local card shop and preordered a box of Magic 2010 before it was released you should have been given an Honor of the Pure with the purchase of your box. Stores receive the Honor of the Pures in a sealed packaged and are supposed to distribute them to customers that preordered their box. Day of Judgment was the preorder card for Zendikar. The same is true for Worldwake. The preorder card was Celestial Colonnade.

I hope this helps!
11  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Legacy at the Warzone, Cleveland, OH 1/17/10 on: January 19, 2010, 05:57:20 pm
I want to give a big thanks to everyone that came out. The tournament went really well and everyone is looking forward to the next one. We had 15 players for the first tournament and after a few people left, we had some others come in for another 15 person tournament afterwords. We didn’t collect deck lists so I’ll just give names and archetypes for the results.

First Tournament:

1st – Mark Trogdon – Mono-blue control: Volcanic Island
2nd – Jason Pare – Merfolk: Savannah
3rd – Steve Shimko – U/B Faeries: Badlands
4th – Danny Maher – Naya Zoo: Plateau

Second Tournament:

1st – Nam Tran – Merfolk: Volcanic Island
2nd – Jerry Yang – Dredge: Savannah
3rd – Bob Davis – Mono-red Burn: Badlands
4th – Mark Trogdon – Mono-black: Plateau

5-8 also got booster packs. Chris also gave away DCI foils for others that did not place in the prize.

Thanks again for everyone that came out! We are looking to have another tournament near the end of February.

Legacy for Revised dual lands.

Sanctioned Legacy
$10 entry fee per tournament

Prizes based on attendance. At least 12 players required to play for the proposed prize structure.

1st – 4th : a Revised Badlands
Deck Registration Starts at 11:00 a.m.
Tournament begins at 11:30 a.m.

The rounds will be 50 minutes of swiss.
Straight cut to top 4 based on standings. There will not be a top 4 playoff.
It will most likely be 4-5 rounds of swiss.
If there is enough for a top 8 cutoff, then the top 8 will play for the top 4 prizes.

Prizes based on attendance, which will scale along with attendance.
100% of entry fees will be given back in the prize pool.
Prizes are flexible. If you would rather have a different dual or other Legacy cards, I’m sure something can be worked out.

After the first tournament, there will be a 30 minute break and another tournament right after. Entry fee is $10 and the rest of the tournament structure is the same.

No deck registration, so you can change decks for the second tournament. If you can only make 1 tournament, that is fine too! The 2nd tournament should begin around 6:00 p.m.

Thanks! Yeah, I guess I probably just picked a bad weekend. Although, the Vintage turnout is sort of typical and the standard tournament was experimental. Hopefully next time will be better!

Josh's list is missing another Sleight of Hand. I must have put it in wrong. Thanks!

Oh man! I have the feeling that this tournament is going to be awesome!

Will Jerry Yang win more power?
Will Mike Smar take another piece of power from Ohio?
Will Paul Mastriano take another piece of power from Ohio?
Will Mark Trogdon be swinging with little green dudes again?
Will people know who Jason Pare is?
Will Bob Davis come out of retirement and top 8?
Will I be playing with Islands?
Will people still think that playing at the Warzone is like playing in someones basement?

Find out this weekend at the Warzone!

Hype! Hype! Hype! Hype!

What do you guys think about trying to have these tournaments the weekend of July 25th and July 26th? I believe that there is a tournament in Philly that weekend,  but that should not interfere with our attendance anyways. What do you guys think?

Jimmy McCarthy (Tez) vs. Paul Mastriano (Tez)
Juan Rodriguez (TPS) vs. Jason Jaco (Oath)
Nam Tran (5 Color Stax) vs. Matt Hazard (Belcher)

Top 4 worked out a split where Juan got the Mox and everyone left happy!

I heard a rumor that 18 people from Cleveland alone are coming out for this!? any truth in this?

There may or may not be a list of 3+ cars and the names of 18 Clevelanders on it who are planning on making this trip. We were trying to figure out how you are going to fit so many people if attendance is through the roof, but I'm sure it will all work out in the end. I'm looking forward to a great tournament if I can make it and some awesome Primanti Brothers action afterwards!

Yeah dude, the winner of the HeroZone Tournament will receive a round one bye at the WarZone tournament the following day!

First, my last name is Tran  Wink

Second, it was a blast to flop some cards with you. I guess I didn't put up much of a fight but I did manage to hold off Darksteel Colossus and Tarmogoyf for a little while.

On a side note, I had no idea that you were Dante on TMD. I remember that you were one of my favorite people to read reports by when I was getting into Vintage.

Maybe next time I will put up more of a fight!

Yeah dude! This tournament was a blast even though I scrubbed. Hanging out at Soly's was fun too. Hopefully I will do better at the next one I can make it out to.

This was an awesome tournament, thanks to everyone for the good games and sportsmanship, and especially to Ron for hosting.

EDIT: My misplaced deck appears to have been found, so if this is the case then it will only reaffirm my belief that the Vintage community is full of awesome people. Thanks guys.

I'm sorry that you lost your deck. I was going to mention that after the Top 8 or so I saw someone turn in what looked like a Black Dragon Shield Sleeves box with a deck in it. I believe there was also like a pad of paper, maybe a pen, and maybe some dice. It did seem weird that someone would leave their deck and all of there stuff just laying around but I am glad to know that you will get your cards back. I was going to post to tell you to call the store, but I got beat to it. A concur though that the Vintage Community is full of awesome awesome people!

As for the event, it definitely was a blast! Lots of people, great venue, awesome competition, tremendous prizes. It doesn't really get any better! Congrats to the rest of the Top 8, and props to my opponents for all being awesome. Especially Dan, Jon, and CJ. We had some epic matches!

Slops to Platinum Angel for beating my face in. Seriously, who plays that card?!?!  Surprised

Primanti Brothers was awesome too. What did we have, like a table for 30?!

Great tournament, I'm looking forward to the next one!

Tourney was a blast! I am pretty sure everyone had a good time.

I have to give Nam a shout out. During our match we were getting a bit rowdy. If you have witnessed people from Cleveland play each other you know what I am talking about. I didn't write down my mana and for some reason I tapped a Mox Pearl for no reason. Nam was like "Burn for one?" and I was like "What do you mean?" I was at one life and combo-ing out with Empty the Warrens FTW. He let me walk through the spells and fix the problem since it was a bit hectic in the room. Thanks a million Nam.

It's all gravy. We are friends! We play games! We have fun! You were probably the cause of one of my beers being removed from my receipt at The Melt though weren't you? I couldn't figure it out! Thanks friend! Maybe next time you will win some power  Wink
