They're the same time as it was on Sunday, for every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Until we made these pushes, they just never fired before.

I don't really care if they do. I expect it.
63  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Conceding on MTGO on: July 14, 2014, 03:02:14 am
If I recognize someone from within the community, I concede once I know it's lost. I don't try to dick them on the timer. Otherwise, it's probably some eternal tourist grinding MTGO. He'd do the same thing to me, so I don't feel bad about it.
64  Eternal Formats / Online Tournaments / Re: Magic Online Vintage Premiere Event, July 13th (Possibly First Ever!) on: July 14, 2014, 02:57:38 am
The finals was me vs jsiri84, who was running 5c humans.

He was not running Humans. It was Esper Stoneblade. There are only like 4 Humans in that whole deck.

I'm really glad this maxed out. I was not with it today, played terribly, and chose terribly on the deck to play. Once I got my head out of my ass, it was too late. But after seeing the event complete, I would really like to see more of these fire. Unfortunately, these seem to only do it when Menendian and I rally the forces and we can't do it every weekend! I'd like to see a Saturday event fire, personally.

I'm the only one able to kick anyone from the clan, and I haven't kicked anyone. Did you accidentally leave? Either way, I'll ship you another invite.

EDIT: It shows you still in the clan. Sometimes the new client goes full retard and you can't see that you're in the clan for a while.

If you get on, let me know while I'm working on the configuration so I can set a usergroup that isn't guest. I'll be restricting guests to prevent people trolling people.

73  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Magic Online Vintage Dailies Results on: July 07, 2014, 10:00:12 am
It was the beta client. I was on Skype with him when it happened and feel a little guilty about it myself. We tried to be careful about how to spread out the flusterstorm triggers. He was clearly clicking on a spot that had his opponents Force of Will shrouded in a red glow. This lead all of us into believing he had selected the right target. It was mind-blowing that we all got it wrong, but I guess at least now we know going forward.

I haven't tested nearly enough on the new client, and I should.
74  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [SCG Premium] UW Stoneforge in Vintage by Drew Levin on: July 07, 2014, 09:55:42 am
I have Premium now, so I was able to get much more context.

He was pretty upset after playing with the UW deck and probably still was when writing the afterward of the article. The quote, by itself, looks far worse but it's still pretty dismissive.
75  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [SCG Premium] UW Stoneforge in Vintage by Drew Levine on: July 03, 2014, 09:27:46 pm
It's the same rhetoric that we've been hearing since the early 2000s. "If pros put their mind to it, the Vintage metagame would be totally be split apart because these filthy casuals don't know how to build their decks."
In fairness, it took how long for GushBond to catch on? There was a time when 4x Merchant Scroll, 4x Gush, 4x Brainstorm was legal and people were only playing 1x Merchant Scroll. Let that sink in. Now remember that 4x Necropotence was also legal and nobody was playing that either, except maybe in "suicide black."

I think that the introduction of Gro-a-tog and a "deck to beat" that, unlike Keeper, was actually good is what changed things.

It's a good point, but I would like to think that through opening TMD, starting the proxy scene, generating a lot of interest in Vintage, the birth of Vintage champs and even considering the relative lull in Vintage, that there is a significant difference between 2002-2003 era and 2014. What you speak of then was really the breaking point where nobody wanted to listed to Chapin's Gro idea and the acceptance of new and breaking ideas in Vintage.

It's the same rhetoric that we've been hearing since the early 2000s. "If pros put their mind to it, the Vintage metagame would be totally be split apart because these filthy casuals don't know how to build their decks." Meanwhile, many of us are consulted by those same pros when they're up for events or whatever. Many pros have been working with us for over a decade now.

We have many pro players who are long time Vintage fans. Chapin, Duke, Williams, Ochoa, LSV, and more. These guys have been just as much a part of this journey we've been on as any of us. The decks now and always can always be better polished. I fully believe this. THAT is the fun part of Vintage; you get to flex some creativity and have it matter. And you get a variety of the Magic-playing pedigree doing it.

Ethan_F on MTGO. I'm not allowed to play in tournaments, but I've been playing Vintage in the Tournament Practice Room! If you see me, let's have a match!

Are you allowed to join clans? Smile
79  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Human Ingenuity on: July 01, 2014, 03:46:34 pm
To be fair, I said I love the deck. It's chock full of cool cards. I made an Oath of Ghouls deck 12 years ago on this site because I think it's an awesome card.

That said, I don't think it's the deck for me.
80  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic Online is an Abomination on: July 01, 2014, 03:17:24 pm
Admittedly, it was an overly brief response. The response that I was given, as someone who's been around playing on free clients since the nineties, was pretty dismissive as if I hadn't thought of it in the 20 years I've been playing Magic. It was also not the first time Duck sent that notion my way and I already responded prior in detail. I was being equally dismissive, but since people are taking such issue with it:

I know some very high quality players who use Cockatrice, but that's a totally different animal altogether. I have a familiarity enough with the MTGO crowd that I can get in on a game against someone who is of notable play quality at any time that I am awake, if I want to test. I can also choose from a number of playable events that can likely turn $4 into $14 or more unless I punt. I get to play with something on the line against people who have something on the line, however minimal.

None of those things I can do on Cockatrice with such regularity. I also have the experience of playing against really niche archetypes and questionable players on free clients, when what I want to do is test against a deck I am testing slots and strategies against. That, and I've had some real harsh personalities play against me that just made me close my laptop or find that goldfishing against myself was preferable.

I do not find that Cockatrice fits my needs.

Also, my money in MTGO isn't wasted. I can sell out right now at a much greater profit than I've put into it.
81  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Human Ingenuity on: July 01, 2014, 01:59:21 pm
Be as unimpressed as you want, the point was that it's not 'sustained dominance' even at two wins over the course of about 30+ daily events.

I personally love with the list Coopes played and have said as much. I think it has credibility, but let's not get carried away here. In fact, if Coopes keeps at it some of his ideas could really make the deck much more agile. In one game where I tinker-colossus'd him out of the game, he immediate thought Stingscourger which is a fantastic option or at least along the lines of the right idea and mindset to be taking it... in my opinion. As unimpressive as it may be.
82  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic Online is an Abomination on: July 01, 2014, 12:45:14 pm
As far as Vintage goes, there's no relevant competitive cards that don't work.

You typically have to reach deep into the stanky rectum of obscure casually-whim cards to find some shit that doesn't work.
83  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Magic Online Vintage Dailies Results on: July 01, 2014, 12:40:02 pm
I don't know where they insert a cut off for reporting decklists and what dates they are actually looking at. They are a number of days behind, but it's hard for me to tell just how many.
84  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Human Ingenuity on: July 01, 2014, 12:21:54 pm
sustained dominance

It happened once.

Since we're being forced into this in a little over two weeks, it'll be truly telling what they accomplish by then and how long it takes to improve things after the fact.
86  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic Online is an Abomination on: June 30, 2014, 10:19:26 am
I think it's kind of tacky that a moderator of this site would take this stance on MTGO and post it with this title. Vintage on MTGO is great for the format and hundreds of old and new players with more to come.

I'm okay with it and not just because it's Rich.

I want people to know the honest truth about MTGO before getting into it. I want people to jump in on the Vintage craze that's hitting MTGO, but I want them going in with realistic expectations. I want them to understand that having multiple tournaments available every day, the ability to 'go infinite', and unlimited solid quality testing come with the downside of new interface problems and other 'quirks'.

We'd love to have more of you around (The Mana Drain clan is at 30 members strong), but I don't want people expecting to walk into the land of sunshine and rainbows where nothing can go wrong.
87  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic Online is an Abomination on: June 30, 2014, 02:00:10 am
many of us have to turn to MTGO or there is no Magic. So, as we've done for years, we try to make the best of it.
Cockatrice. The interface is pretty good and the oneness are of decent quality.

No, I'm good on avoiding that player pool.
88  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Magic Online Vintage Dailies Results on: June 29, 2014, 01:18:26 pm
Ingot Chewers to clear the way for Energy Flux are the way I've rolled IRL, and that combo does a number against MUD and other Shop decks.  Obviously Metalworker can handle Flux, but that's what you use your Lightning Bolts for...

Precisely this. Dack Fayden isn't solving any matchups and unfortunately not enabling Welder decks enough to make an impact.
89  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic Online is an Abomination on: June 29, 2014, 11:46:22 am
On the v3 client, I can blow through turns quite nimbly because I have a lot of experience with it. On the new beta, I make some stupid mistakes from getting used to it.

And while I'd love to be the irritated consumer and 'vote with my wallet', many of us have to turn to MTGO or there is no Magic. So, as we've done for years, we try to make the best of it.
