1  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Old School Magic in New York! New Website & Format! on: March 22, 2016, 04:43:28 pm
Do tapped blockers still deal damage in this version of old school?  It's an oft forgotten rule that was in place in the beginning of the game (tapped blocking creatures don't deal combat damage) that could be important if running something like Icatian Javelineers or Icy Manipulator...
2  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [SOI] Asylum Visitor on: March 18, 2016, 01:26:26 pm
This looks like it has the most potential for Vintage play than any other card in the set imo.  I could see some kind of all-in deck with all the moxes and chocked full of instants to get max value out of this guy's draw engine.  Certainly worth trying!
3  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [SOI] Thing In The Ice on: March 07, 2016, 12:30:39 pm
I like this card a lot - acts as a good early-game wall and then a conditional evacuation plus a big finisher once you play enough spells.  Def warrants some testing.

I couldn't have said it better myself, gkraigher -- well put!

No idea what happened, but I am a victim as well.  Still waiting on a dispute result from PayPal. ..
6  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: Free Article: Vintage 101: A Bazaar Story on: February 12, 2016, 04:12:22 pm
I've never quite understood the hating this deck or that deck in Vintage.  I'm in the format because I *ENJOY* seeing the absolute power limits of the game - not to bitch about them.  This attitude makes sense in Standard since its supposed to be a "balanced" format - but Vintage is quite a ways off Standard...
7  Eternal Formats / Null Rod Based Aggro / Re: Merfolk on: February 04, 2016, 02:09:29 pm
I played Merfolk locally recently (a list pretty close to the Champs winning list from a few years back) just to get a feel for the deck and I got pummeled.  The Null Rods helped G1 vs Storm but G2/3 were bad losses (cheap artifact removal from the board plus main deck defense grids did me in as i got TEN DRILLED for bunches).  Shops match up was even worse (hit two of those that night).  Resisters just slow you down way too much and getting 3 balled with no FOW = GG.  Final game was against a Mentor build that just basically "stormed on board", quickly having superior board presence.

Hopefully you have better results with your AEther Vial build - best of luck!

What is inferno titan in here to attack specifically?  Has this addition cut the mustard??
9  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: GP Washington D.C. - 3 (!!!) Sanctioned Vintage Events March 11th - 13th on: January 29, 2016, 12:39:49 pm
When SCG used to run Vintage as one of their premier formats, didn't they allow proxies back then?
10  Eternal Formats / Northeast U.S. / Re: GP Washington D.C. - 3 (!!!) Sanctioned Vintage Events March 11th - 13th on: January 28, 2016, 05:24:10 pm
Are playtest cards allowed at this event and, if so, how many?
11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Is Your Current Vintage Deck Proxy Free? on: January 13, 2016, 05:36:24 pm
Can play proxy-free for the most part (missing "modern" stuff like Arcbound Ravagers and Dacks), but usually I play proxies for the pricey stuff to save wear and tear on it.  I break it out for Champs tho!

I donno if it's not up there or I'm just blind.  What is the link to preregister for this event?
13  Eternal Formats / Bazaar-Based Decks / Re: Dredge 101 - A Video Primer on: December 28, 2015, 05:03:00 pm
My point regarding MM is more that I would think your opponent would just Mental Misstep the Cabal Therapy if they had it.  Maybe this is a mind game that some player play that I am unaware of, but I would think that most of the time if your opponent has a Mental Misstep to answer a Cabal Therapy, they'd fire it off just to go one-for-one and keep you off knowing the contents of their hand...
14  Eternal Formats / Bazaar-Based Decks / Re: Dredge 101 - A Video Primer on: December 28, 2015, 04:28:05 pm
I really like the videos!  Smile

One thing I'd say is that naming Mental Misstep with a blind Cabal Therapy seems like a so-so play to me.  IMO if they had the Mental Misstep in hand, they would likely just MM the Therapy right away, without allowing you any informational advantage.

What is the english text of the card?

Aren't all the X spells historically too powerful in T4?
17  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free article] Vintage 101: The Original Super League on: November 30, 2015, 05:40:49 pm
The last time I played Standard was when the original Zendikar was out.  I was cracking packs trying to get a set of all the new fetch lands for Vintage.  Since I had the cards from cracking packs, I played a red/white aggro deck until it rotated out.

Even though I'm not much of a fan of Standard, it was really fun that lightning bolt was legal in Standard at the time.  That was a nice touch of nostalgia for me.  Since they did this with Lightning Bolt, I always thought there might be a time where they would do the same and bring back Counterspell for a season.  Now that Modern is a thing though, I doubt they ever end up doing that.

I guess it is supposed to be the star power that makes it "super".  That adds something sure, but it's far less of a draw than the format for me personally.
18  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free article] Vintage 101: The Original Super League on: November 30, 2015, 01:04:28 pm
Great article!  I never understood how any of the other leagues could really be "super" anyway - playing things right on curve standard-style is not super at all...
19  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Brain Freeze and Winning the Game on: November 24, 2015, 11:23:52 am
They have to go to draw and not be able to do so to lose.
20  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [OGW] Wastes: Barry's Land is REAL? on: November 18, 2015, 02:39:22 pm
Isn't this essentially just adding a sixth color to Magic?
21  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [OGW] Wastes: Barry's Land is REAL? on: November 18, 2015, 12:12:06 pm
It's already wasted tho - that's why you can't waste it...
22  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: SCG Cutting Back Legacy - How Does This Impact Vintage? on: November 04, 2015, 03:28:36 pm
My thought was that non-reserve list cards that are played in both formats have the potential to go down in value as some segment of Legacy players sell out of the format (ie - cards like Force of Will, Show and Tell, Wasteland...).  So it might be a good time to try to buy some of these cards in the coming months.

In order to address both the challenges we seemingly have in common with Wizards of the Coast, and a number of others, we too will be reducing our number of events in 2016. This will result in the year being divided into three seasons instead of four, and all three seasons will continue to culminate in an Invitational.

http://www.starcitygames.com/magic/misc/31833_.html

Digging further into the article, not only are there going to be less events, but less Legacy events in particular.

How do my fellow Vintage players feel that this will impact our format?

Edited title for clarity; Star City Games is SCG, not SSG - Prospero

I then finished shuffling, cut, and took a penalty for looking at extra cards.

What was the penalty in this instance?
25  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Accidental Card Revealed During Shuffling/Cutting on: October 30, 2015, 01:26:24 pm
So this happened when I was playing a casual game so it really ended up not being a big deal but it made me wonder.  What would happen in a tournament setting if, during the process of shuffling and cutting, a card or cards were accidentally revealed that would result in the opponent getting information (ie - color(s), decktype, etc) about your deck before the game actually began.  Is there a floor rule on how to handle this situation?
26  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: The actual effect of Restricting Chalice on: October 28, 2015, 04:28:44 pm
Agreed.  I don't think it ever was the best deck.  It was, however, a solid deck that played on an axis (locking opponents out) Wizards now frowns upon.
27  Eternal Formats / Bazaar-Based Decks / Re: Dark Depths Dredge Post MTGO Power 9 Challenge on: October 28, 2015, 03:17:02 pm
What are the 4x Chancellor of the Annex trying to disrupt?  Wouldn't most opponents just play a mox and pay the one for it??
28  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: GiftsBond - 9th Place MTGO P9 Challenge on: October 26, 2015, 10:47:30 am
In retrospect, how would you sideboard differently?
29  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: "The Unbroken" U/R Landstill: The Primer on: October 22, 2015, 02:55:54 pm
That makes sense.  I was just thinking that the counterpoint would be that with all 5 moxes you would be able to increase your chances at a turn 1 standstill...
30  Eternal Formats / Blue-Based Control / Re: "The Unbroken" U/R Landstill: The Primer on: October 22, 2015, 12:43:35 pm
I'm thinking about trying to put something like this together...with Chalice restricted, is there a reason for not running Moxen?
